  • Patent number: 7617053
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and system for processing seismic data. Seismic data indicative of at least a time-dependent seismic trace are transformed into time-frequency domain using the S-transform. The transformed seismic data are processed for determining at predetermined time instances an instantaneous amplitude and a dominant instantaneous frequency. Based on a quotient of the instantaneous amplitude to the dominant instantaneous frequency seismic data indicative of a likelihood of a presence of hydrocarbons are then determined which are then graphically displayed. The method and system for processing seismic data provides a powerful tool for determining the likelihood of a presence of hydrocarbons based on a double peak hydrocarbon signature in the quotient of the instantaneous amplitude to the dominant instantaneous frequency.

  • Patent number: 7603734
Abstract: A system for preventing a rack fault condition of a passenger boarding bridge includes a plurality of electromagnetic sensors that are disposed for sensing separately a rotational movement of each one of a first and a second electromechanical screw jack, one electromechanical screw jack located adjacent to each lateral sidewall surface of the passenger boarding bridge. The system also includes a control circuit in communication with the plurality of electromagnetic sensors. The control circuit receives signals from the sensors, which signals are indicative of the sensed rotational movement of each one of the first and second electromechanical screw jacks. A value is determined relating to a rotational synchronization of the first and second electromechanical screw jacks. When the determined value is outside a predetermined range of threshold values, a control signal is provided for affecting the rotational movement of at least one of the first and second electromechanical screw jacks.

  • Patent number: 7574578
Abstract: A method and apparatus are disclosed for prefragmenting or presegmenting data. A data protocol type and length are provided. Based on the type and length, a linked list memory buffer structure is determined. Locations within the memory buffer structure for storage of data therein is also determined allowing for sufficient unused memory therein to support one of a fragmentation operation and a segmentation operation subsequent to memory allocation. As such, further memory allocation during a fragmentation operation or a segmentation operation is obviated. The determined memory buffer structure is then allocated.

  • Patent number: 7539373
Abstract: The invention describes method and apparatus for a mode converter enabling an adiabatic transfer of a higher order mode into a lower order optical mode within a photonic integrated circuit exploiting integrated semiconductor ridge waveguide techniques. As disclosed by the invention, such a mode conversion is achievable by using an asymmetric coupler methodology. In an exemplary embodiment of the invention, the invention is used to provide a low insertion loss optical connection between laterally-coupled DFB laser operating in first order mode and passive waveguide operating in the zero order optical mode. The integrated arrangement fabricated by using one-step epitaxial growth allows for a launch of the laser's light into the waveguide circuitry operating in the zero order lateral mode or efficiently coupling it to single-mode fiber, an otherwise high loss interface due to the difference in laser and optical fiber modes.

  • Patent number: 7532784
Abstract: The invention describes an integrated-photonics arrangement, implementable in a multi-layer III-V semiconductor structure, which has a semiconductor substrate; an epitaxial semiconductor structure grown on this substrate in one growth step; a common waveguide; and a plurality of wavelength-designated waveguides; all the waveguides being formed in this epitaxial structure using conventional semiconductor processing techniques. Each waveguide being defined by the bandgap wavelength of its core region and all the waveguides being arranged vertically in order of ascending bandgap wavelength; with the common waveguide placed at the bottom of the structure and the wavelength-designated waveguide having the longest bandgap wavelength placed at the top of the structure. In use, the bandgap wavelength of the common waveguide being well below any operating wavelength, therefore providing conditions for low-loss propagation of each operating wavelength to its designated waveguide through the common waveguide.

  • Patent number: 7507317
Abstract: This invention relates to the enhancement of chemical reactions by applying a high frequency electric field to a material. The frequency and amplitude of the electric field are selected in accordance with the properties of the reacting components in the bulk of chemical reactor. In general, the high frequency range is determined by the dielectric properties of reactant(s), that is, at any given temperature, when, for example, the specific conductivity starts to grow from its low frequency value. Typically, frequencies in the range of 100 kHz to 200 MHz or greater are suitable for the enhancement of the reactions. An electric field of any shape having Fourier components that when applied to a chemical process exhibits growth in the real part of conductivity relative to the low frequency value is of particular importance.

  • Patent number: 7502526
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for filtering time-varying MR signal data prior to image reconstruction. A one-dimensional FT is applied to the time-varying MR signal data along each frequency-encode line of k space. The phase p of each complex pair (R,I) of the FT transformed data is calculated to create a phase profile for each frequency-encode line. This process is repeated for all time points of the time-varying MR signal data. The time course of each point within the phase profile is then transformed into Stockwell domain producing ST spectra. Frequency component magnitudes indicative of an artifact are determined and replaced with a predetermined frequency component magnitude. Each of the ST spectra is then collapsed into a one-dimensional function. New real and imaginary values (R?,I?) of the complex Fourier data are calculated based on the collapsed ST spectra which are transformed using one-dimensional inverse Fourier transformation for producing filtered time-varying MR signal data.

  • Patent number: 7474974
Abstract: A method of providing an on-chip high-speed time domain digital analyzer for the characterization and analysis of signals within an integrated circuit is provided. The method involves processing the signal being characterized/analyzed in the digital domain irrespective of it's starting format. The approach performs a voltage-to-time conversion using predetermined voltage thresholds, applying a time amplification to the digital time information, measuring the amplified time difference between events and converting the amplified time difference as required by the characterization/analysis. The method allows the capture of very high-speed signals with high resolution without the requirements of complex and high-speed electronics. As such the on-chip high-speed time domain digital analyzer can function as an oscilloscope, pulse width analyzer, rise time analyzer and even logic analyzer.

  • Patent number: 7468511
Abstract: A FAIMS cell including one of side-to-side cylindrical geometry electrodes and stacked-plate electrodes is adapted with a medial surface feature for focusing ions along a lateral direction within an ion separation region of the FAIMS cell. The medial surface feature is provided as one of a recessed channel within an electrode surface and a protruding ridge extending from an electrode surface. The medial surface feature is aligned with a defined aggregate direction of ion travel within the ion separation region for focusing ions along the lateral direction in opposition to the tendency of ions to spread out as a result of space charge repulsion, ion-ion repulsive forces, diffusion and gas flows. The electrical field and fluid dynamic effects produced by the medial surface feature beneficially affect ion transmission efficiency through the FAIMS cell.
