  • Patent number: 5836179
Abstract: A method of knitting side-by-side brief blanks (BLK, BLK') in the form of a tube (T) on an electronically controlled circular knitting machine wherein the tube (T) is shaped by needle selection (50) between the brief blanks (BLK, BLK') to form apertures (AP, AP') which provide leg openings (LO, LO') by taking out of action needles (50') which would otherwise knit yarn across the apertures (AP, AP'). At the same time yarn feed (Y2) to the inoperative needles (50') is cut (42, 44) and trapped (46) whereby the apertures (AP, AP') are formed. End portions of the blanks (BLK, BLK') remain interconnected until the tube (T) is slit walewise to provide separate blanks (BLK, BLK') for making up briefs. Since yarn is not knitted across the apertures (AP, AP'), a considerable saving in the use of yarn is effected whilst shaping of leg openings (LO, LO') is facilitated.

  • Patent number: 5833138
Abstract: A cartridge (2) secured for angular movement on the handset head (10) has a valve-like cooperation with openings (12) in the head (10) for water flow via passageways (20, 21, 22) in the cartridge (2) to showering outlets (30, 31, 32) on appropriate rotational setting of the cartridge (2). Cleaning pins (7) rotatable with the cartridge (2) and co-axially movable relative to it are operated by a cam track (8, 81) to penetrate fine spray outlets (32) to clean them of scale. The cam co-action of the pin ring followers (71) with the track (8) causes the pins (7) to remain inoperative during the showering modes but the pins (7) are operated for penetration by further turning of the cartridge (2) i.e. independently of the showering modes. The followers (71) are spring urged against the track (8) such as by resilient blades (75) bearing against the taper periphery (27) of the cartridge (2). Clearance pin penetration of the outlets (32) permits water flow to wash away scale and minimize back pressure.

  • Patent number: 5784096
Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for displaying two-channel audio input signals in a three-color visual pattern. In general, the visual pattern may be formed on a viewing screen by an apparently moving spot having three color components. Phase shifting means is employed to phase shift one of the two audio input signals, and both audio input signals are subsequently processed by low pass filters to produce positioning signals in X-Y coordinates for the spot which forms the visual pattern. In addition, the two audio input signals are also mixed and separately processed by a high pass filter, a band pass filter and a low pass filter to produce frequency separated signals for controlling the intensity of each of three color components of the spot forming the visual pattern. Automatic color balance means utilizing negative feedback is employed to control the amplitude of the separate frequency-discriminated audio signals.

  • Patent number: 5702375
Abstract: An apparatus and method is disclosed for an improved absorbent pad and thermal pack for absorbing a liquid discharged from a patient. The absorbent pad and thermal pad comprises an outer sheet made of a liquid impermeable material and an inner sheet of a liquid permeable material. An absorbent sheet is disposed between the inner sheet and the outer sheet. A flexible liquid impermeable container having a chemical mixture which undergoes a thermal reaction upon activation thereof is interposed between the outer and inner sheets to enable the thermal source to be applied to the patient and to enable any liquid from the patient to permeate through the inner sheet to be absorbed by the absorbent sheet. Abstract: An improved control system for a movement actuator is disclosed for moving a member between a retracted position and an extended position. The movement actuator comprises a cylinder having a piston with a fluid supply providing pressure to a first and a second side of the piston. A control applies a first and a second fluid pressure on the first and second sides of the piston for moving the member from the retracted position toward the extended position with a force related to a difference between the first fluid pressure and second fluid pressure for reducing the possibility of damage to an unintended object in the path of the member. The control applies the first fluid pressure on the first side of the piston upon the member being in proximity to the extended position for moving the member into the extended position with a force related to the first fluid pressure for insuring proper positioning of the member.
