Abstract: A method and system for caching content, such as content requested from a server on the World Wide Web. Requests for dynamic content are forwarded directly to a content server to avoid caching data that might only be used once. Requests for static content are forwarded to a hot or a regular cache depending on the frequency at which the content is requested. When a hot cache does not contain the content, it forwards the request to the forwarder which then forwards the request to a regular cache. When the regular cache does not contain the content, it requests the content from the forwarder which then forwards the request to a content server. There may be more than two layers of cache.

Abstract: A liquid droplet of a first liquid and a liquid droplet of a second liquid are mixed upon landing on a substrate, and then the reaction is initiated between the first and second liquid droplets. Accordingly, it is possible to avoid the problem which would have been caused when the two liquids are mixed in advance before the usage that the reaction between the two liquids is advanced before the liquids are actually coated. Further, since the ink-jet system is employed, it is possible to precisely control the liquid-droplet amount and the landing position, thereby landing the first and second liquids on a same position with high precision. Accordingly, a highly integrated pattern can be formed. Furthermore, since the mixing ratio of the first and second liquids can be precisely controlled, the film quality can be stabilized.
Abstract: A stereoscopic display device includes: a display panel having a display screen on which two-dimensional image is displayed, and configured to polarize image light of the image-displaying into a particular polarization direction; and a lens array element disposed to oppose the display screen of the display panel, and having a liquid crystal layer which includes liquid crystal molecules having a refractive index anisotropy and aligned in a predetermined orientation direction under no application of voltage. The lens array element is configured to electrically change the alignment of the liquid crystal molecules to generate a lens effect, and configured to selectively change a state of passing therethrough of the image light exiting from the display panel. The predetermined orientation direction of the liquid crystal molecules of the lens array element and the polarization direction of the image light are parallel to each other.
Abstract: A device, system, and method are directed towards facilitating a registration of a user for a network service. In one embodiment, a server receives, from a user at a client device, user information including at least one text block. The server analyzes the text block to determine an authenticity value of the user information. The analysis may be based on the length of a lexicon of the text block, the size of a word such as the longest word in the text block, or the number of clauses in the text block. The analysis may be further based on expected values determined by such values in authentic text blocks of a similar nature. Based on the authenticity value, the system may allow the user to access the network service, disallow access to the network, allow conditional access, queue the registration application for further review, or take other actions.
Abstract: A method and an arrangement for analyzing a specimen, wherein the specimen is supported so as to be rotatable around an axis of rotation and displaceable in all three spatial directions and is illuminated by a first illumination device. Light radiated from the specimen is imaged on a detection device. A plurality of sectional images of the specimen are recorded at different settings of the rotational angle, and the specimen is rotated. The recorded sectional images are fused to form a data set of spatial image data of the specimen. The specimen is then illuminated by a second illumination device perpendicular to the axis of rotation, wherein a plurality of shadow images of the specimen are recorded and the specimen is rotated. A second data set of spatial image data of the specimen is constructed from the recorded shadow images by means of a back projection algorithm.

Abstract: An image forming unit may include a capability of determining whether paper conveyed through the unit is bending. In some embodiments, an amount of bending of the conveyed paper may be determined. An embodiment of an image forming apparatus may include a paper feeding unit, an image forming unit, a skew correcting roller pair, a rotary member pair, sensors, signal processing units, and a control unit. A rotary member pair may convey a sheet to the skew correcting roller pair. Sensors may be disposed at various positions along the conveying path. In some embodiments, the sensors may include transmitting units and/or receiving units. These units may be positioned such that a conveyed sheet passes through therebetween. Signal processing units and control units may allow for the determination of the bending of conveyed sheets.
Abstract: A device for managing image and audio files displays thumbnails, which are representative of the files, on a screen in different arrangements, depending on the selected layout and order. When the user enters input to indicates that he or she wishes to browse through the thumbnails, the thumbnails move across the screen in sequence, following a path through a focus outline in the center of the screen. The path followed by the thumbnails depends on the selected layout.

Abstract: A method and manufacture for memory device fabrication is provided. In one embodiment, at least one oxide-nitride spacer is formed as follows. An oxide layer is deposited over a flash memory device such that the deposited oxide layer is at least 250 Angstroms thick. The flash memory device includes a substrate and dense array of word line gates with gaps between each of the word lines gate in the dense array. Also, the deposited oxide layer is deposited such that it completely gap-fills the gaps between the word line gates of the dense array of word line gates. Next, a nitride layer is depositing over the oxide layer. Then, the nitride layer is etched until the at least a portion of the oxide layer is exposed. Next, the oxide layer is etched until at least a portion of the substrate is exposed.
Abstract: Provided are bristle brush rollers having bristles implanted on their surfaces. A gap exists between the bristle brush rollers and reading surfaces of scanners for allowing a medium to pass through. When transfer rollers transfer the medium in the medium transfer direction, the bristle brush rollers regulate a surface opposite to a to-be-read surface of the medium in order to guide the medium.
Abstract: Exemplary systems include a stimulator configured to be implanted within a patient, the stimulator having a body defined by at least one side surface disposed in between distal and proximal end surfaces, and a connector assembly configured to be coupled to the stimulator and extend parallel to the at least one side surface of the stimulator. Abstract: An embodiment of the invention provides a circuit for detecting a malfunction generation attack, including: at least one sensor circuit adapted to detect a radiation of a light; and a detection circuit for detecting an intermediate voltage between a voltage corresponding to a High level and a voltage corresponding to a Low level in accordance with an output from the at least one sensor circuit, and outputting a detection signal. At least one sensor circuit has an output node a level at which is changed in accordance with the radiation of the light, and outputs a signal corresponding to the level at the output node which is changed in accordance with the radiation of the light. The detection circuit outputs the detection signal when a level of the output signal from the at least one sensor circuit reaches a level previously set.
Abstract: A contents recording system and a contents recording method reducing a time taken for recording and editing of video content and other video contents. An optical disk device for recording video content and a computer are connected via a network. The computer is supplied with low resolution proxy AV data from the optical disk device, streaming reproduces it as live video and, at the same time, introduces essence marks as meta-data to any positions of the proxy AV data, and describes them in a meta-data file. The optical disk device transmits a header including a recording period of a captured clip to the computer after the end of the capture of the clip.
Abstract: The present invention provides a method of treating a neoplasm using a neurotoxin, preferably botulinum toxin. Neurotoxin administered around a neoplasm acts to decrease the contractile forces of the muscles surrounding a neoplasm which normally squeeze neoplastic cells through efferent channels leaving the neoplasm to distant sites. The present invention also provides a method of administering botulinum toxin at sites distant from the neoplasm, thereby enhancing cellular and humoral immunologic functions, which further contribute to neoplastic cell death. Following administration of botulinum toxin around or distant to a neoplasm as described herein, local, regional, and distant spread of neoplastic cells is reduced or eliminated. Immunomodulation with botulinum toxin is also valuable in treating other diseases that may or may not be associated with cancers, such as viral-induced growths, viral conditions, fungal disease, chronic wounds, graft versus host disease, autoimmune disease, and HIV.
Abstract: A video switching apparatus has a plurality of slots each for mounting any of a first input module capable of inputting any one of a plurality of predetermined types of video signals and performing processing, content of which varies depending on the type of input video signal and a second input module capable of inputting only predetermined one type of video signal. The video switching apparatus switches and outputs video signals of a plurality of channels input to the input modules mounted to the plurality of slots. The video switching apparatus includes an input setup data memory processor, a detector, and an input setup changer.
Abstract: A suction cap device includes a cap member which is formed of an elastic member, which is formed to have a recessed portion, and which has a suction port formed in a bottom surface of the cap member to be located inside of the recessed portion; a suction mechanism which communicates with the suction port; and a cap protector which is accommodated in the recessed portion of the cap member, and which prevents the cap member from being deformed when a pressure inside the recessed portion is decreased. In a liquid flow passage formed in the cap protector, a lead-in port formed in the cap protector has a diameter which is greater than a diameter of a lead-out port formed in the cap protector. With this, it is possible to quickly discharge a liquid received in the cap member.
Abstract: A receiving apparatus is disclosed. A digital tuner section selects a modulation signal having a predetermined frequency from a radio wave of a digital television broadcast, demodulates the modulation signal, and outputs a resultant transport stream. A separation section separates the transport stream into a video stream and an additional stream. A decoder decodes the video stream and outputs a picture signal. The picture processing section performs a predetermined picture process for the picture signal. A control section obtains program information containing information about a picture signal type of a program that is broadcast from the additional data and creates a program information database based on the program information. A storage section stores the program information database. The control section controls the picture process based on the picture signal type obtained with reference to the program information database in parallel with processes of the digital tuner section and the separation section.
Abstract: An apparatus and method to preferentially select code quantity from DPCM path in a manner to satisfy the target code quantity thereby preventing deterioration of image quality. Code quantities obtained by a first compression system of quantizing an input image signal by quantization steps different from each other, or code quantities obtained by a second compression system which has compression factor and loss which are lower than those of the first compression system are added on an encoding system selection basis to calculate a total code quantity of equi-length unit. A calculated total code quantity and a target code quantity in the equi-length unit are compared to determine quantization step in the first compression system in accordance with the comparison result to select, on the encoding system selection basis, the first compression system or the second compression system of performing quantization by the determined quantization step.
