  • Patent number: 6744766
Abstract: A system and method for data transmission incorporating a hybrid automatic repeat request (ARQ) function at each node in an ad-hoc network. Each node is configured to calculate an optimum segment size for transmission and thereafter executes the ARQ function to transmit and receive data segments with forward error correction and error detection coding. The coding allows the node to detect and locate errors within received segments and to provide an acknowledgement only after all segments are correctly received. A negative acknowledgement from the receiving node states the location of failed segments, and only failed segments are then retransmitted. The failed segments can be retransmitted in their original location and in other segment locations which contained segments that did not fail, thus reducing maximum time to successfully deliver the segments.

  • Patent number: 6737917
Abstract: The present invention relates to amplifier combined digital amplifier using pulse width modulation and analog amplifier, and more particularly, to amplifier converting the analog input signal to pulse width modulation signal by comparing the analog input signal with triangle-wave, inputting the pulse width modulation signal to a dead time logic circuit, controlling the “ON”, and “OFF” operation of output transistor by output signal of the dead time logic circuit and converting the pulse width modulation signal of the output transistor to amplified analog signal using LC low pass filter. The present invention reduces the loss of efficiency of output transistor. Therefore the size of heat radiating plate can be easily reduced and amplifier with compact size can be accomplished by the present invention.

  • Patent number: 6732921
Abstract: In the system for managing a large number of reusable multi-trip receptacles each of which is marked by a code in an identifiable manner, the multi-trip receptacles are used in a number of cycles in several local stations (20, 21, 22) separated from each other and the code is read at each cycle. Data which have been recorded in the local stations. (20, 21, 22) for the individual multi-trip receptacles are stored allocated to the read code in a central station (10), and are evaluated to establish the number of cycles or uses of each multi-trip receptacle. The age and number of uses of each multi-trip receptacle is established using the data stored in the central station (10) and when a certain age or a certain number of cycles is reached, the local stations (20, 21, 22) are informed that the relevant multi-trip receptacle is no longer to be used.

  • Patent number: 6728232
Abstract: An system and method for handling broadcast network requests for auto-configuration and discovery of IP to MAC address mappings and gateway presence in wireless peer-to-peer ad-hoc routing networks. The significant portion of a node's IP address is calculated by applying a hashing function to the six-byte hardware (MAC) address. The significant portion is appended to routing advertisements, and thereby propagates passively to other network nodes. DHCP and ARP requests, as well as other broadcast type requests, are handled by the local network stack of a node, without requiring a broadcast transmission over the wireless channel.

  • Patent number: 6725755
Abstract: A scale system used with a table saw. The table saw has a stationary table, a movable table and support rails portion relative the stationary table, and a rip fence that slides over the stationary table and the movable table. The scale system includes a first measurement scale and a second measurement scale located relative the stationary table. The first measurement scale includes a zero marking aligned with a point on the stationary table and a last marking separated from the zero marking. The initial marking on the second scale is aligned proximate the last marking such that the second scales runs counter to the first scale. A pointer system designates the distance on the measurement scales the unit is from the point where a first pointer on the unit measures on the first measurement scale and a second pointer on the stationary table measures on the second scale. The scale system can include a third measurement scale on the opposite side of the scale.

  • Patent number: 6711180
Abstract: The interfacing device handles asynchronous/synchronous adaptation and rate control between the ATM flows and the flows transmitted on the wireless interface. It transposes the ATM cells (53 octets) into packets which can be transmitted directly on the wireless interface (40 octets in the case of DECT). Similarly, at the receiving end, it reconstructs the original ATM cell flow on the basis of the packets received. In order to guarantee a certain transmission quality at the level of the wireless link, the device uses a data acknowledgement and retransmission mechanism adapted to the characteristics of the synchronous wireless channel. In order to fulfil the quality of service requirements of the various applications in terms of error rates and transmission delays, the device allows the data protection mechanism to be set for each ATM connection depending on the characteristics of the service.

  • Patent number: 6711678
Abstract: A method for securing communications within a computer network that includes wireless devices is presented. The method involves the use of a middleware server, which allows ill-performing and potentially insecure communications protocols to be off-loaded onto a more powerful machine running in a more secure environment, e.g., within a company's Intranet. The method can be practiced with any symmetric encryption algorithm, and can be combined with additional security methods, such as asymmetric encryption methods.

  • Patent number: 6710101
Abstract: Binder compositions of the present invention are useful in refractory and foundry applications. The compositions include an aggregate, a liquid resole resin, and a magnesium hardening agent. The compositions are workable and exhibit high compressive strengths in a short period of time. Additionally, the compositions have a low free phenol content and require a reduced resin content as compared to currently known compositions. The compositions reduce the cost to produce useful binders by eliminating the requirement for ester curing in addition to requiring reduced amounts of resin to obtain adequate compressive strength.

  • Patent number: 6704313
Abstract: Different portions of a header of each packet containing protocol data are analyzed in succession from different gate registers of the TRIE memory. As a packet arrives, its header is stored in a buffer memory and a first portion of the stored header is analyzed. Each analysis of a portion of header produces either the forwarding reference associated with the packet or an intermediate reference containing a first code, making it possible to locate at an arbitrary location of the buffer memory a next portion to be analyzed, and a second code, making it possible to locate at an arbitrary location of the TRIE memory a gate register from which this next portion is to be analyzed. Having analyzed the first portion of a stored header, the subsequent portions thereof are analyzed in accordance with the first and second codes contained in the intermediate references produced in succession until the forwarding reference is produced.

  • Patent number: 6699958
Abstract: The present invention is directed to compositions and a process leading to colorless or light colored aqueous phicinol-formaldelhyde resoles. Unlike previous technologies, these compositions lead to clear storage stable fast curing, high molecular weight resins. These materials are also capable of producing composite wood panels with superior water absorption and thickness swell test results when soaked in water. The invention essentially consists of an aqueous copolymer of phenol, formaldehyde, and a phenolic carboxylate (e.g. salicylic acid). Methylol phenols are formed under alkaline conditions in the presence of metal chelating agents. These are then condensed into a polymer under alkaline, neutral or acidic conditions. The finished aqueous polymer solution is then acidified to the desired pH using a benzoic acid or a phelnol-carboxylic acid.

  • Patent number: 6695159
Abstract: In a gantry crane having a vertically movable, horizontal stabilizer beam spaced between upright columns, a shock absorbent bumper assembly is mounted to ends of the stabilizer beam to prevent direct contact against the columns. The bumper assembly includes an elastically deformable bumper body made of resilient material and a wear pad made of wear resistant material, the wear pad being secured to the bumper body so that the wear pad faces the column. The wear pad resists wear due to sliding contact against the column and the resilient bumper body absorbs energy from impacts as the stabilizer beam shifts in a transverse direction.
