  • Patent number: 8180285
Abstract: A device includes a processing module, a millimeter wave (MMW) oscillation module, a MMW beamforming module, and a plurality of amplifiers. The processing module determines activation of the device and thereafter modulates data to produce modulated data, determines a beamforming setting, and establishes a transmit power setting. The MMW oscillation module generates a modulated MMW signal based on the modulated data. The MMW beamforming module converts the modulated MMW signal into a plurality of MMW beamformed signals based on the beamforming setting. The plurality of amplifiers amplifies the plurality of MMW beamformed signals in accordance with the transmit power setting to produce a MMW near field transmission.

  • Patent number: 8176139
Abstract: Methods are disclosed for automatically monitoring and controlling at least one media peripheral device in a media exchange network. A communication link is established between a media management system (MMS) and a media peripheral (MP) device in the media exchange network and an operation of the MP device is automatically selected via the MMS over the communication link. Finally, the operation of the MP device is automatically carried out (i.e., performed). Also, after establishing a communication link between a media management system (MMS) and a media peripheral (MP) device in the media exchange network, at least one status parameter of the MP device may be automatically monitored via the MMS over the communication link. The status parameter may be automatically stored and/or displayed via the MMS.

  • Patent number: 8132084
Abstract: Super block error correction code (ECC) adaptable to communication systems including hard disk drives (HDDs) and other memory storage devices. A means is presented by which a number of blocks of information can be organized, with a degree of ECC provided thereto, and transmitted via a signal into a communication channel. In some instances, the communication channel is coupled to a storage media as in the context of an HDD, and information is written to and read from the storage media via this communication channel (e.g., “read channel”). This means is particularly well suited to applications that provide large amounts of data via any one transmission (e.g., DVR/PVR (Digital/Personal Video Recorder)). A redundant block is generated using the information of each of a number of information blocks thereby provided extra ECC on a large portion of data, and that redundant block also undergoes ECC encoding.
