  • Patent number: 6364574
Abstract: A method and apparatus for the installation or removal of large multi-ton prefabricated deck packages includes the use of usually two barges defining a base that can support a large multi-ton load. A variable dimensional truss assembly is supported by the barge and forms a load transfer interface between the barge and the deck package. Each boom has a lifting end portion with a roller that fits a receptacle on the package. Tensile connections form attachments between the deck package and barge at a lower elevational position. The variable dimension truss includes at least one member of variable length, in the preferred embodiment being a winch powered cable that can be extended and retracted by winding and unwinding the winch.

  • Patent number: 6343657
Abstract: A new method and apparatus have been developed which inserts and withdraws tubing from pipes without bending or kinking the tubing. Beneficially, the new method and apparatus may be employed to insert and withdraw tubing to depths greater than ever possible before. The method involves using a thruster pig to provide force to inject the tubing, and skate apparatuses to reduce coiling and friction of the tube. Advantageously, the apparatus is portable, easily handled, and adaptable to handle tubing of differing diameters.

  • Patent number: 6338387
Abstract: An apparatus for jarring a portion of drill string lodged within a borehole, by jarring downhole using tension only, including a first member for attaching a first lower end of the apparatus to the upper end of the lodged tool or pipe through a threadable attachment; a second member for attaching a second end of the apparatus to a drill string on its upper end portion; a third anvil or hammer member which is triggered by spring having stored compressional force transferred by tension from the drill string to the apparatus when the drill string is pulled upward. There is also provided an actuator for rapidly releasing the tension force provided by the spring downward onto the stuck pipe in order to provide an impacting, downward force onto the pipe in an effort to dislodge the pipe. Beneficially, the method and apparatus may be employed to insert and withdraw tubing to depths greater than ever possible before. The method involves using a thruster pig to provide force to inject the tubing. The thruster pig uses a pressure differential to urge the tubing into and out of the pipe. Advantageously, check valves or relief valves allow fluid to be pumped down the tubing and out the front of the thruster pig, and then to flow back through the valves and up the annulus between the pipe and the tubing.

  • Patent number: 6305882
Abstract: An apparatus for placing auger type anchors into the earth includes a machine frame that supports an elongated housing. The housing has upper and lower end portions. An anchor holder is positioned at the lower end of a tubular member rotatably mounted in the housing for holding an anchor and rotating it during placement. A plurality of drive wheels carried by the frame transport the housing between upper and lower positions. The wheels are loaded with adjustable compression springs so that extensive pressure can be applied from the drive wheels to the housing for gripping and driving the housing during insertion. A gear train interconnects the driving wheels so that all of the driving wheels rotate at the same rotational speed.

  • Patent number: 6296288
Abstract: A spreader bar apparatus of improved configuration is comprised of a plurality of bar sections including at least a pair of bar sections that are connectable end-to-end to form a lifting bar with a central longitudinal axis and with left and right bar end members, each removably attachable to the lifting bar that is comprised of the two bar sections. A plurality of transverse annular faces are provided respectively on the bar sections and on the bar end members for transferring axial load along the bar central axis and in between the various bar sections and end members during a lift. A plurality of connecting portions provided on the bar sections and bar end members form detachable connections between the bar sections and between each bar end member and a bar section. The apparatus of the present invention is so configured that a majority of load is carried by the annular faces as opposed to the connecting portions.

  • Patent number: 6289690
Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing sanitized water in a bottled water dispenser uses a refrigeration system to cool the water and an ozone generating system to generate ozone for sanitizing the water. Ozone is generated and collected within an ozone generator housing. A blower transmits air to the housing, the air carrying the ozone through a flow line to an air diffuser that is positioned inside the reservoir of the water dispenser. A time deactivates the refrigeration system and at about the same time activates the ozone generator and the blower. The blower continues to pump air for a selected time period after the ozone generator is shut down, the water in the reservoir having been sanitized. This action dispenses any ozone odor. The pump then shuts off and the refrigeration system resumes operation of cooling the water in the reservoir.

  • Patent number: 6279496
Abstract: A seed planting apparatus includes an elongated planter member having an upper end portion and a lower end portion. An elongated seed delivery tube is positioned next to the planter, the tube having a bore and an outlet. The lower end portion of the planter member has an end that is preferably frustoconically shaped, providing a flat lower surface and a tapered side wall. The lower end portion of the planter member can be in the form of a truncated pyramid. The delivery tube has a lower end portion with an outlet that communicates with the bore and that is so positioned that when a user drops a seed into the tube, the seed exits the tube at the outlet above the lower end portion of the delivery tube so that it falls next to the lower end portion of the planter member which can be positioned into a cavity that was formed by the lower end portion of the planter member.
