Abstract: An inflatable percutaneous oxygenator has an inflatable balloon suitable for insertion into a blood vessel. Oxygen is circulated through a number of gas-permeable passageways (such as hollow gas-permeable fibers) adjacent to the balloon surface to permit diffusion of oxygen and carbon dioxide between the blood vessel and the passageways. Pulsatile flow can be used to increase the rate of cross-diffusion of gases. A pump is used to alternately expand and contract the balloon. This causes movement of the passageways within the blood vessel to minimize streaming or channeling of the blood flow around the oxygenator, maximizes turbulence in the bloodstream, and therefore maximizes diffusion of gases. In one alternative embodiment, the balloon is made of a gas-permeable material and is inflated with oxygen to supplement cross-diffusion of gases with the bloodstream.
Abstract: A quadrilateral exercise and training device includes a plurality of longitudinally extending channel members mounted on cross frame members so as to define elongated slots in which foot-supporting members and hand-engaging members can reciprocate. A control system interconnecting the foot-supporting members and hand-engaging members includes a main flat synchronizing belt interconnecting the foot-supporting members and hand-engaging members to establish desired coordination between the respective members, a safety belt interconnecting the foot-supporting members and a drive belt associated with each foot-supporting member which operatively engage a pair of drive shafts having a braking system and an optical transducer for converting rotation of one of the drive shafts to a digitized informational readout for use by an operator.

Abstract: A device suitable as a closure cap for a medicine container is provided. The device has indicia circumferentially marked on the upper surface of the device representing the time for next taking the medicine in the container. An arm is rotatably mounted on a slightly flexible but resilient shaft inserted through the center of the device and is set to point at the time for next taking the medicine. The arm is releasably retained in position by cooperating pegs and indentations on the upper surface of the device and the underside of the rotatable arm.
Abstract: Disclosed is a system for removably supporting dental models on the upper and lower frame members of an articulator, the system including a base plate having one side adapted to support a die-stone dental replica, and an opposite side provided with shaped registration and socket structure, the system further including an adapter plate having one side adapted to be adhesively bonded to the upper or lower articulator frame-member, and the other side of each adapter plate structured for being snapped into engagement with the opposite side of the base plate to releasably hold it on the adapter plate.
