Abstract: A keg capping machine primarily for use with beer kegs having protruding neck portions upon which flexible plastic caps are to be fitted. The machine has a capping head attached to the lower end of an inclined cap chute which is attached on its upper end to a cap storing hopper. The capping head has horizontal flanges on its bottom edge which serve as stops and guideways for caps sliding down the chute. The neck of a keg which is carried along a conveyor moves between the guideways and engages the lower portion of a cap forcing it through the capping head. A cap driving rocker within the capping head is employed to force the cap down tightly onto the neck of the keg.
Abstract: A plurality of extendible jack stands are used in conjunction with, and their operation controlled by, a single power unit. The power unit transports an individual jack stand, positions it underneath a load, and raises or extends it. The jack stand is then locked in its extended position, and the power unit is detached from that jack stand and is then used for transporting, positioning, and raising another jack stand. When the load is to be lowered, the power unit controls the unlocking, lowering, and retraction of the jack stands, one at a time. In this manner a number of jack stands may be placed underneath a load, the load raised, the load later lowered, and the jack stands removed, without any need for the operator himself to place his body underneath the load.
Abstract: A mobile power unit for a jacking system having extendible members is disclosed. The unit includes a frame having a pair of lifting members each having an extension member mounted therein and a pair of tie-rods each connected between the frame and the extension members to move the extension members progressively forward as the lifting members are raised. A pair of guides each having a slot are mounted on each of the lifting members to maintain the top of a jack stand at a constant angular relation with the extension members. The device also includes an alignment mechanism having a pair of curved springs each mounted on one of two arms of the frame and a pair of associated protuberances each mounted on opposite parallel walls of the jack stand to align the jack stand at a predetermined location on the frame. A release mechanism for releasing the jack stand has two cams each mounted on one of the two arms of the frame and a pair of pins each mounted to extend outwardly from opposite ends of the jack stand.
Abstract: An extendible jack stand for a jacking system which includes a wheeled hydraulic power unit having an operating handle, and at least two extendible jack stands which are identical. Each jack stand is adapted to rest upon the ground, and the power unit can be wheeled into (or out of) engagement with the jack stand. When engaged with a jack stand the power unit is capable of extending (or raising) the jack stand; a ratchet on the jack stand then locks it in its extended position. A manual control on the power unit is coupled to the jack stand (when the two units are interengaged) for releasing the ratchet, so that the power unit can then lower the jack stand to its retracted position.

Abstract: A linear motor apparatus capable of delivery of single or multiple impacts to the body so as to provide massage or other treatment. Frequency, duration and force of impact are operator controlled variables. Resonances may be set up in body tissue material so as to result in standing waves in said body material.
Abstract: This invention is concerned with production and use of high surface area particulate matter by calcining a charge of clay mineral, feldspar, zeolite, coal ash, fly ash, pozzolan or volcanic ash for a time to develop fractures which increase the surface area of the particles. Vacuum calcining decreases the calcining time. The calcined matter desirably has an analysis including: calcium oxide, about 20-40 weight %; aluminum oxide, about 15-35 weight %; and silicon oxide, about 20-40 weight %.The calcined particulate matter can be used in the treatment of impure aqueous materials; the matter is denser than water and sludge settles rapidly and completely. The calcined matter interacts with heavy metal ions to form tightly bound sludge that is nonhazardous for landfill disposal. The calcined matter can be combined with conventual coagulants, flocculants, filter aids, or activated carbon to obtain a multipurpose treating agent.
Abstract: An improved audio chandelier that has, in addition to its conventional illuminating purpose, an audio system such as a stereophonic radio or a security system incorporated into its structure, the former to furnish, for example, music, while the latter has as its purpose to warn of unwanted intrusions and disasters, for example, such as fires, by means of stimulus-responsive warning signals. Ventilation is provided for cooling the various systems components. Control, sensing and energizing means may be provided within a common housing. The modular construction of the device makes assembly and disassembly convenient without the use of special or any other kinds of tools. Ventilation by natural convection maintains electronic and electrical systems within acceptable operating temperatures.

Abstract: A control circuit for a three phase induction motor includes a voltage controller having a silicon controlled rectifier in each of a first, second and third supply line connected to the motor. The control circuit further includes a first, second and third phase control means for controlling the firing angles of the respective silicon controlled rectifiers, a circuit for providing a positive ramp signal, and a circuit for providing a constant level signal. A starter circuit includes a "run" push button and a "brake" push button. The depressing of the "run" push button connects a three phase power supply to the supply lines of the voltage controller and causes the positive ramp signal to be applied to the first, second and third control means to control the firing angles of the silicon controlled rectifiers to provide a soft start for the motor.
Abstract: Apparatus for use in the assembly of a lighting fixture. A retaining spring clip bracket serves as releasable locking support and positioning constraint for elongated arcuate lamp shade panels peripherally encased in a plastic molding, and usually of transparent or translucent material. Brackets may be removed so as to remove the panels for transport, cleaning or for other purposes. Panles are suspended from a panel supporting structure. The structural spring means of the spring clip bracket releasably grasps the plastic molding covered edges so as to hold parts together by the frictional forces resulting from the spring tension in the retaining spring clip bracket in contact with the plastic covered edges of the panels.
Abstract: An automatically controlled electric circuit interrupting device for controlling electric power supplied to the heating elements of kiln furnaces responsive to parallel input stimuli.

Abstract: A swimming pool cover assembly is adapted to be operated by hand by a single person, for extending a cover sheet over a swimming pool or for retracting the cover. The cover sheet is wound upon a drum at one end of the pool, while a rope is wound upon a spool located at one end of the drum. A hand crank or electric motor is used either to drivingly rotate the spool to take up the rope, or to drivingly rotate the drum to take up the cover. The rope is positioned in a tensioned loop configuration with its remote end being connected to the forward end of the cover sheet, and is supported on pulleys removably secured to the pool decking. The hand crank or motor drives either the spool or the drum through a gear mechanism, being automatically switched from one to the other depending upon the direction of rotation of the hand crank. Side fasteners secured along the side edges and free end of the cover sheet are removably attached to anchors on the pool decking when the cover is in its extended position.
