  • Patent number: 5839360
Abstract: A process of and system for distributing, filtering, storing, recovering, and disposing of bulk edible oil or other fluid. The filtering system having a filter box assembly, superstructure and fluid transfer unit functions to filter the edible oil or other fluid, transfer the fresh (new) oil or other fluid for use in commercial vats and transfer spent (old) oil or other fluid to an outdoor supply and disposal storage tank. Two three-way valves coupled to two manual three-way valve switch handles operate to control the fluid transfer unit to intake fresh or old fluid and to dispense of the fresh or old fluid. A mobile transport truck couples to the outdoor supply and disposal storage tank for filling the supply and disposal storage tank with fresh (new) oil or other fluid and retrieves the spent (old) oil or other fluid.

  • Patent number: 5814000
Abstract: A pivotable brace for adjustably supporting a user's joint, such as a knee joint, at a variety of different angles as desired. The restraint imposed by this brace upon the joint can also be released thereby permitting the joint to further bend or flex as needed but which will return to its original setting by returning the joint back to its originally braced position. Preferably, a pair of such braces will be secured to opposite sides of the joint to be braced for maximum support and restraint.

  • Patent number: 5810053
Abstract: A thermoplastic liner is extruded in cylindrical form and deformed at a temperature below the crystallization temperature of the polyethylene material forming the liner into a generally W-shaped configuration. The liner in that configuration has three convex lobes and two concave lobes along one side of the liner with a convex portion of the liner wall along the opposite side. The cylindrical liner is initially extruded in cylindrical form and deformed by a series of axially spaced sets of rollers progressively inclined toward a vertical position wherein the final W-shaped configuration of the liner is formed. The liner has a cross-section in any direction less than one-half of the diameter of the liner when expanded into a cylindrical configuration. The deformed liner is coiled about a reel. At an installation site, the liner is pulled from the reel through the pipe and sealed at opposite ends. Steam under pressure expands the W-shaped liner to a cylindrical configuration to line the pipe.

  • Patent number: 5799359
Abstract: A windshield washer and wiper assembly for cleaning a windshield of an automobile. The assembly is generally comprised of an elongated housing, a source of windshield washer fluid under pressure, a perforated bladder within the housing, means for washing the windshield mounted through the housing in contact with the bladder, a wiper blade mounted on the housing and means for deflating the bladder. The bladder, upon actuation of the washer fluid source, inflates with washer fluid, urging the washing means against the windshield while simultaneously disengaging the wiper blade from the windshield. The bladder returns to a contracted state by the deflating means upon deactivation of the washer fluid source to return the wiper blade to the windshield surface.

  • Patent number: 5743315
Abstract: Disclosed is an apparatus and a method for cutting trees and grinding and mulching tree stumps. The apparatus includes a semi-spherical arcuate shield with a control mount and a foot mount attached to the arcuate shield. A cylindrical drum having cutting teeth mounted on the periphery of the drum is mounted below the arcuate shield such that the arcuate shield covers the upper forward and rearward surfaces of the drum. The method of the present invention includes grinding the upper portion of a tree trunk with a cylindrical drum with cutting teeth until substantially all of the tree trunk is cut away, pushing the apparatus against the tree trunk at a point above the ground away portion of the tree trunk until the upper portion of the tree trunk breaks off, grinding the resulting tree stump down to ground level with the cylindrical drum with cutting teeth, and depositing the tree cuttings from the tree stump around the tree stump.

  • Patent number: 5738398
Abstract: An apparatus for grasping and carrying substantially cylindrical objects is disclosed. The apparatus is generally comprised of a self-rolling spring strip with opposing concave and convex surfaces and mating hook and loop fastener portions fixedly attached on the opposing surfaces of the strip such that when the strip is in a coiled position, the fastener portions prevent the strip from uncoiling. The strip is biased to an uncoiled position such that when the strip is subjected to a slapping motion about a substantially cylindrical object, the opposing surfaces flatten out and the strip coils around the object. The strip is preferably elongated and made of metal. In an alternate embodiment of the present invention, the apparatus has an aperture on one end which extends through the strip and fastener portions and a mechanical fastener, such as a bolt, for securing the apparatus to a bulkhead or similar panel. In operation, the strip is initially in an uncoiled position.

  • Patent number: 5692866
Abstract: A method and apparatus for binding books wherein a stack of pages are collated and aligned together. This stack is covered, top and bottom, with end pages which now comprise the first and last pages of the stack. Each end page includes a self-adhesive or sticky-back surface that is temporarily covered with a protective sheet. This stack is inserted within a clasp that is subsequently crimped, thereby securely binding the stack together. The crimped stack is then placed within an outer case or covering whereupon the protective sheet is removed and adhesive is exposed and applied to the case in order to secure or bind the pages to the case. Final compression of the case insures proper adhesion.
