Abstract: Carboxyalkyl-substituted organopolysiloxanes are prepared by hydrolysis of a silalactone composition having the formula ##STR1## where n has an average value greater than zero, R and Q are hydrocarbon and X is Cl or Br. Silicon-containing compounds having the formula R.sub.a Z.sub.b SiO.sub.(4-a-b)/2, where Z is a hydrolyzable radical, can be cohydrolyzed therewith. The novel silalactone composition is prepared by gently heating a mixture of an ester having the formula X.sub.2 R SiQCO.sub.2 R' and a halide salt catalyst, such as tetrabutylammonium bromide.
Abstract: A lubricant for water fittings is described which essentially consists of a natural or synthetic high viscosity lubricating oil or lubricating grease, possibly an organic or inorganic thickener, and an additive in the form of at least one complexing agent and possibly at least one hydrophobing agent. Compared to known lubricants for water fittings, said lubricant is characterized by a performance capability which lasts substantially longer since the formation of disturbing deposits, particularly in the form of lime and rust, is greatly inhibited with said lubricant. The water fittings lubricated with this lubricant therefore remain functional substantially longer.
Abstract: Organosilicon compositions which cure by way of a metal-catalyzed reaction of silicon-bonded hydroxyl radicals and/or silicon-bonded olefinic hydrocarbon radicals with silicon-bonded hydrogen atoms are stabilized for hours at room temperature by the incorporation of a hydrocarbonoxyalkyl maleate. However, the stabilized compositions are rapidly curable at low elevated temperature. Liquid organopolysiloxane compositions of this invention are particularly useful for coating operations, particularly paper coating operations to prepare an adhesive-releasing layer.

Novel resins wherein only 0.1 to 30 percent of the monovalent units have SiH groups are also disclosed.
Abstract: A pressure-sensitive adhesive having an excellent tack and adhesive strength is obtained from a composition which comprises an organic solvent solution of an alkenyl group-containing silicone polymer having a gum-like consistency, a tackifying silicone resin, a curing agent for the alkenyl group-containing silicone polymer and a platinum-containing catalyst. The composition can be cured by heating at relatively low temperatures.
Abstract: Compositions which cure by a platinum-catalyzed reaction between silicon-bonded hydrogen atoms and silicon-bonded, aliphatically unsaturated hydrocarbon radicals have improved pot-life and cure-rate characteristics when a catalyst-inhibiting amount of a diorgano fumarate compound is added to the composition. Solventless coating compositions containing a dialkyl fumarate, a methylhydrogenpolysiloxane and a methylpolysiloxane bearing hexenyl radicals are particularly useful as adhesive-release coatings for acrylic-based pressure sensitive adhesives, applied in-line.
Abstract: Foam control compositions are prepared by reacting a mixture of components which include a polyorganosiloxane fluid bearing one or more hydroxyl and/or hydrocarbonoxy groups, a resinous siloxane or a silicone resin-producing silicon compound, a finely divided filler material and a catalyst to promote the reaction of the listed components. The compositions can optionally contain a polyorganosiloxane fluid which is substantially free of reactive groups and/or a polyorganosiloxane fluid bearing two or more hydroxyl and/or hydrocarbonoxy groups.
Abstract: Novel organopolysiloxane compositions, which cure rapidly from the liquid to the non-liquid state when exposed to moisture, are used to rapidly coat a substrate, such as label release liner, with an adhesive-releasing coating. Curing of the liquid coating occurs in 5 seconds at room temperature in some cases. The organopolysiloxane compositions contain a large amount of a metal ester, such as tetraisopropyl titanate, dissolved in an organopolysiloxane fluid which has moisture-reactive, silicon-bonded alkoxysilylorganic radicals.
Abstract: Pressure sensitive adhesives can be protected with a releasable liner having a cured fluoroalkyl silicone coating which contains as little as two percent fluoroalkyl-substituted siloxane units. In a preferred embodiment of this invention silicone pressure sensitive adhesives can be solvent-cast, and even cured, directly onto the release surface of the liner and can be removed from the protective liner with a force of no more than 400 grams per inch. The fluoroalkyl silicone copolymers of this invention are prepared by a process which involves the preparation of a cohydrolyzate of fluoroalkyl-containing and fluoroalkyl-free siloxane units, followed by further polymerization of the cohydrolyzate with other siloxane units.
Abstract: Carbonyl iron powder (CIP) can be protected from extensive atmospheric oxidation by mixing and heating it with a silicon compound having one or more reactive groups. The resulting CIP is more readily accepted by a silicone binder when preparing mixtures thereof.
Abstract: Organopolysiloxane compounds containing at least one silicon-bonded, epoxy-terminated polyoxyalkylene group are useful for treating materials to provide hydrophilicity for the materials.
Abstract: Compounds represented by the general formula ##STR1## when a and b are each 0 or 1 and R represents OH or lower alkoxy when a is 1, or OH or -NR'.sub.2 when a is zero. They can be prepared by the reaction of allyl glycidly ether with the appropriate organic acid e.g. salicylic acid.Useful as ultra-violet absorbent substances and as intermediates for the preparation of other such substances, for example by polymerization and copolymerization and by reaction with organosilicon compounds having silicon-bonded hydrogen atoms.
Abstract: A method for treating a solid material to give it hydrophilic and/or antistatic properties comprises applying a composition containing a silicone compound to the material which has one or more alkoxysilylalkyl groups and one or more polyoxyalkylene groups. In a preferred embodiment the method is used to treat fibers and fiber-containing materials. The composition can further contain a curing agent for the silicone. Emulsion compositions are particularly useful.

Abstract: A simplified method of manufacture for platinum (O) alkyne complexes is disclosed, as well as novel platinum (O) alkyne complexes per se. The complexes are made by reacting platinum-vinylsiloxane complexes with alkynes. The complexes are used in hydrosilylation, hydrogenation, isomerization and oligomerization reactions. Curable silicones using these platinum (O) alkyne complexes as curing catalysts are also disclosed.
