  • Patent number: 4310678
Abstract: Copolymeric organopolysiloxanes comprising SiO.sub.2 are prepared by forming an acidic, homogeneous mixture of a silanol-containing resinous copolymeric siloxane comprising R.sub.3 SiO.sub.1/2 siloxane units and SiO.sub.2 siloxane units, an organohydrogenpolysiloxane and an organic solvent and heating the resulting mixture to remove substantially all of the organic solvent. The copolymeric organosiloxanes contain silicon-bonded hydroxyl radicals and/or silicon-bonded hydrogen radicals in varying amounts which depends upon the acidity of the homogeneous mixture that is formed and the ratio of silicon-bonded hydrogen radicals to silicon-bonded hydroxyl radicals therein. The copolymeric organopolysiloxanes are useful as a reactive component in various types of curable silicone compositions.

  • Patent number: 4290897
Abstract: Aqueous slurries of fine coal are dewatered by a process which comprises mixing a mixture of a water-soluble organopolysiloxane and a water-emulsifiable organopolysiloxane with the slurry, separating the slurry to recover the fine coal and further drying the fine coal, if desired. • Patent number: 4255316
Abstract: Ceramifiable silicone adhesives having tack and green strength are provided by mixing a ceramifiable filler with certain silicone pressure-sensitive adhesives. The silicone pressure-sensitive adhesive comprises approximately equal weights, plus or minus five percent, of a polydiorganosiloxane having a viscosity of from 1 to 1000 Pa.multidot.s and a xylene-soluble resin copolymer of R.sub.3 SiO.sub.1/2 siloxane units and SiO.sub.4/2 siloxane units. High loadings (80 weight percent of the ceramifiale adhesive) of ceramifiable filler are attainable without loss of tack and green strength when the polydiorganosiloxane is a mixture of a low-viscosity fluid and a high-viscosity fluid. These ceramifiable silicone adhesives are useful for assembling and adhering a plurality of ceramifiable greenware components to form a ceramifiable composite greenware article.

  • Patent number: 4247592
Abstract: Synthetic fibers such as polyethylene terephthalate and nylon are treated with certain polydiorganosiloxanes to provide improved properties such as "hand" and water repellency. When the polydiorganosiloxanes contain approximately two silicon-bonded amino radicals of the formula --R'(NHCH.sub.2 CH.sub.2).sub.a NHR", such as --CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 NHCH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 NH.sub.2, they provide a crosslinked siloxane on the surface of the treated fiber, when heated, which does not diminish the fire-retardancy rating of the fibers.

  • Patent number: 4207071
Abstract: Fibrous substrates are durably modified by applying a polyoxyethylene-containing silane to the substrate and heating the substrate to cure the silane. Durability of the treatment is achieved by using a silane having the formula R(OCH.sub.2 CH.sub.2).sub.x OR'SR"SiZ.sub.3 where Z denotes a hydroxyl or a hydrolyzable radical, R' and R" are divalent aliphatic radicals of suitable size, R is hydrogen, lower alkyl or lower acyl and x has a value of at least 3. The silane is applied to the fibrous substrate, such as a hydrophobic fabric, as a homogeneous liquid composition comprising the silane, a volatile liquid carrier and a siloxane polymerization catalyst to provide a treated substrate having improved properties, such as hydrophilicity.

  • Patent number: 4193885
Abstract: Endblocked methylpolysiloxane fluids, such as trimethylsiloxane-endblocked polydimethylsiloxanes, are made more resistant to thermally induced siloxane rearrangement by incorporating therein certain amounts of titanium-, zirconium-, or hafnium-containing compounds. Incorporation of these compounds may be accomplished either by mixing organosiloxy derivatives of Ti, Zr, or Hf with the fluid or by mixing certain organic derivatives of Ti, Zr, or Hf with the fluid and heating the mixture to decompose the added organic derivative. Furthermore, incorporation may be accomplished either by mixing the correct amount of the Ti, Zr, or Hf compound with the fluid or by mixing an excessive amount of the Ti, Zr, or Hf compound with the fluid to form a thermal-stability additive which may be diluted with additional fluid to achieve the correct amount of Ti, Zr, or Hf compound.

  • Patent number: 4170581
Abstract: Silicone-containing durable press resin compositions are prepared by polymerizing a polydimethylsiloxane which has been emulsified in an aqueous solution of dimethylolethylene urea or dimethyloldihydroxyethyleneurea. The resulting homogeneous aqueous compositions have improved resistance to separation after freeze-thaw cycling. Advantageously, more highly concentrated aqueous compositions comprising a silicone-containing durable press resin are available by the method of this invention. The silicone-containing durable press resin compositions are useful for providing wrinkle-recovery and permanent press to cellulose-containing fabrics.
