Abstract: A rapid fire electromagnetic launcher system (EML) employs a plurality of capacitor modules which are charged by an equal number of modules of lead acid batteries. The invention comprises the combination of standard automotive lead acid batteries for charging an electrolytic capacitor array which is switched into an Electromagnetic Launcher (EML) by means of silicon controlled rectifiers, and a control circuit for controlling the loading and launching of projectiles at a very rapid rate. The system includes a multishot preinjector and rapid fire controller for operating the system in a safe and reliable manner. The system includes a preaccelerator, magazine and barrel. The combination eliminates the low power density limitation of the batteries, the requirement to repetitively commutate energy out of an inductor, and allows for a modular system than can be expanded to provide higher energy to each projectile in the burst.

Abstract: An improved balloon catheter is disclosed that facilitates catheter release when a pull is entered upon the inserted catheter while the balloon is inflated in a body passageway. The catheter is provided with one or more weakened regions on the inflatable balloon portion. These weakened regions may be provided by portions of non-uniform thicknesses arranged circumferentially around the balloon. These weakened regions rupture and release the inflation when the catheter is pulled from its inserted, inflated position. This mechanism allows for a tight seal on the body passageway while alleviating the danger of accidental removal with the balloon in its inflated state.
Abstract: A self contained catalytic heating device within which a fuel/oxidizer mixture and combustion products are held out of physical contact with a heated medium, allowing the temperature of the catalytic material to be maintained at a level that is independent of the temperature at the surface in contact with the heated medium; materials and geometric dimensions can be chosen to achieve required temperatures for catalytically coated surfaces and heating surfaces, for example in a tubular construction.

Abstract: Footwear which is adaptable for athletic events requiring different sole configurations for different playing surfaces, for example artificial turf and natural turf, by providing the soles of shoes with a prescribed pattern of protuberances which are suitable for one type of event, and altering the pattern to adapt the shoes for another and different type of event. In particular the sole of each shoe can have removable conical cleats for playing on natural turf, and removable stud or square cleats for playing on artificial turf.
