  • Patent number: 4754529
Abstract: Bundling of objects using a harnessing device with a locking head and a strap with teeth that are controlled by stretching. The locking head contains a pawl or tang that engages the teeth of the strap by wedging. One or more wedging teeth are desirably located on the locking tang as well. A further tooth to promote locking is desirably included in the locking head. The strap is advantageously molded of stretch reorientable material which is subsequently stretched to control the profile of the teeth which are engaged by the locking tang and head. The teeth are spaced on the strap to permit use of the teeth near the head for the harnessing of small bundles. The pawl is provided with specified pivot points for both the insertion and loading of the strap in the head.

  • Patent number: 4736746
Abstract: A method of fastening biological tissues using a fastener having two opposing heads joined by a connector. The fastener is installed by driving the heads through needles having a slotted bore. The needles are pierced through the tissues and rods are then used to drive the heads through the needle bores. The needles are removed and the heads then move against the tissue surface. The connector draws the heads inward against the tissue. The heads are provided with recesses to securely receive the rods.

  • Patent number: 4735664
Abstract: A decorator controlled by a signal processor for applying heat transfer labels and the like to articles. Servo circuits accept processor commands and direct operation of label feed and transfer elements. A transfer roller moves in a continuously variable manner to follow the contour of the article surface. A position roller precisely matches web movement to article movement, or enables controlled stretching or shrinking of the labels as they are applied to articles. A turret loads, indexes, and unloads articles for label application at two decorating sites. Indexing of the articles takes place as the turret is rotated.

  • Patent number: 4730359
Abstract: A device for controlling the spacing of the plates on a bridging arrangement for expansion joints in bridges or the like, in which device one or more plates run parallel between edge beams defining the expansion joint and are mounted on cross-members bridging the expansion joint. The plate is coupled to the two edge beams, or each plate is coupled to an edge beam and an adjacent plate or to two adjacent plates, by means of resilient members arranged to act in shear. Each resilient member is secured by one end to an edge beam or a plate and by the other end to a connector that is resilient to bending. Each connector connects the resilient members of an edge beam and a plate or of two plates to one another. All the plates are connected to one another and to the edge beams by one or more continuous control chains comprising shear springs and connectors.

  • Patent number: 4726979
Abstract: Product and process for heat transfer labeling. A transfer layer containing a design print is superimposed upon a contoured release layer that is desirably imprinted on a carrier. When the carrier, together with the release layer and the transfer layer are applied to an object to be labeled and heated, both the release layer and the transfer layer become molten and the transfer layer becomes adhered to the object being labeled. The release layer and the transfer layer are immiscible when in a molten state. The desired immisciblity can be achieved by the inclusion of a barrier layer between the transfer layer containing the design print and the release layer.
