  • Patent number: 4448839
Abstract: A method of sizing a hydrophobic yarn for weaving comprising the steps of applying thereto an acid pH latex of a free radical initiated vinyl polymer and drying the yarn. The polymer has a weight average molecular weight of from about 300,000 to about 2,500,000, and in dried film form is hydrophobic, not redispersible in a solution at a low pH and redispersible in an alkaline aqueous medium. The polymer is prepared from monomers comprising about 8% to about 14%, by weight ethylenically unsaturated acid. The average solubility parameter of the monomers in the polymer is between about 9.0 and about 9.5; the calculated polymer T.sub.g is between about -20.degree. C. and 20.degree. C. Preferred yarns are nylon and polyester.

  • Patent number: 4184383
Abstract: The present invention is concerned with a dual stroke drive mechanism of any size for a reciprocating device, such as a piston of a pump. It is particularly concerned with such a driving mechanism having means for selecting a particular stroke-length. It is more specifically concerned with a drive mechanism capable of imparting either one of two set stroke-lengths and means for selecting one of the stroke lengths before, or at certain intervals during, operation of the mechanism. The drive mechanism converts rotary movement of an input member into reciprocating rectilinear movement of an output member which may be connected to a piston and reciprocates the latter. A preferred application is in the field of sampling pumps for distributing liquid samples of small sizes into vials for analysis.

  • Patent number: 4146027
Abstract: A procedure is provided for producing a wound dressing having a crushed or uncrushed foam bonded to a woven, knit or nonwoven absorbent layer, particularly woven cotton gauze. The foam is self-bonded to the absorbent layer, i.e., no adhesive is needed to bond the foam. The foam may be applied by one of several methods. One procedure comprises applying a thin layer of foamed latex on a release medium. The dry foam, still on the release paper, is then simultaneously crushed and transfer bonded to the absorbent layer. A second method comprises applying the foam directly on the absorbent layer and crushing if desired. A third method comprises applying unfoamed material on the fabric and then causing foaming by the use of blowing agents then crushing if desired.
