  • Patent number: 6709472
Abstract: The novel features of this invention include a bio-based binding-agent and a manufacturing process which—together with conventional production equipment—comprise a very low-cost system for making strong and water-insoluble products from a variety of particulate feedstocks, including finely-divided lignocellulosic fiber and particles, or fines, of chemically-inert materials. This binding-agent—process combination is uniquely suited to the manufacture of water-impermeable agglomerates from granular and powdery materials—including minerals, metal particles and carboniferous fines no courser than about one cm—and to creation of composite materials from particulated forestry residues, crop wastes and paper byproducts. Of particular commercial interest is the production of synthetic fuel from moist fine coal without the input of the thermal energy normally required for dewatering and drying the feedstock, and for curing prior art bonding agents.

  • Patent number: 6544081
Abstract: A boat hull having a tunnel structure along the bottom of the hull in the form of a truncated hollow partial cone indentation parallel to the keel of the boat. The tunnel has a truncated end attached to the bottom of the hull near the keel and an open end attached to the transom of the boat. The tunnel encloses a propeller shaft extending from the boat interior at the truncated end, the propeller shaft, a propeller and a rudder. The angle of the cone with respect to the keel places the propeller about 45% to 50% within the tunnel at planing attitude or speed. The combination of the tunnel placement along the hull and the axis of the propeller shaft increases the efficiency of the boat and reduces fuel consumption.

  • Patent number: 6533040
Abstract: A multi-function apparatus designated as a “Liner Stub Assembly”, run in and set in an existing cased well at the end of a work pipe string is used to add a liner-equipped branch well to an existing cased well in a way which provides full access to both wells. Pre-fabricated mobile straight tubular connectors (Liner Stubs) are installed and sealed by on-board explosive means which accurately cut a window of pre-determined shape and dimensions in the existing well casing and weld to it the Liner Stub's stop collar to make downhole a leak-proof tubular junction of the two wells, by means of such short connectors.

  • Patent number: 6491817
Abstract: A pressure filter includes two continuous mating surfaces movable relative each other and a filter medium capable of being disposed therebetween. A surface, provided for supporting the filter medium, is bounded by and is substantially coplanar with one of the continuous mating surfaces. The filter further includes a shallow inlet cavity, bounded by the other of the continuous mating surfaces, and an inlet distributor in communication with the inlet cavity. The inlet distributor includes at least one opening and may be of internal or external type. When the mating surfaces are pressed together, a shallow filtration chamber is defined by the inlet cavity and the filter medium. The filter apparatus may include a plurality of shallow filtration chambers, stacked one above the other, and constructed as described above.

  • Patent number: 6354403
Abstract: An adjustable stair stringer and railing construction assembly is disclosed. The assembly is adapted to use a pair of parallel stringer arms for each side of the stair, a riser/tred support bracket for each stair, and alignment and spacing elements for spacing the support brackets along the stringers. The brackets include formations for spacing the stringers with respect to each other and for spacing adjacent brackets along the stringers. The brackets are initially pivotally attached to each of the stringers so as to be rotatably movable about their pivotal attachment as the stringers are moved axially. Axial movement of the stringers with respect to each other establishes the angle of rise of the stair. Treds and risers are attached to the brackets to form the stairs and railings are attachable to the stringer and bracket assembly to complete the construction.

  • Patent number: 6082422
Abstract: The combination money clip and card holder comprises a one-piece element having a rectangular base with two inwardly-oriented L-shaped brackets formed along longitudinal edges thereof. The rectangular base also contains a stop, formed on one of the transverse edges thereof. Together with the rectangular base, the L-shaped brackets comprise a channel for receiving flexible cards, such as credit cards, whereas the stop prevents the cards from being inserted too far into the channel. The edges of the base supporting the L-shaped brackets are tapered in the direction of the stop to provide means for removably capturing the cards inserted into the channel. The holder also includes a resilient money clip formed on the opposite side of the base. The money clip is formed so that it is biased toward the base, thus allowing bank notes inserted between the clip and the base to be removably retained therein.
