  • Patent number: 5039135
Abstract: An improved elongate drain trap made of a material having a low index of heat conductivity and having inlet and outlet end portions and a substantially U-shaped central basin portion below and extending between the end portions and in which water is contained and sometime freezes to establish an ice plug; the improvement comprises an elongate insert made of material having a high index of heat conductivity and having an upper end portion in the inlet portion of the trap and a lower end portion extending through the central basin portion of the trap. The insert functions to absorb heat from hot water deposited in the inlet portion of the trap and to conduct that heat through the basin portion of the trap where it melts a sufficient portion of an ice plug formed therein to establish a flow passage for water through the plug.

  • Patent number: 4989711
Abstract: A controller for a centrifugal clutch with circumferentially spaced actuating weights having radially inwardly projecting actuating arms that pivot rearwardly as the rate of rotation of the clutch accelerates and the weights move to increase actuating pressure in and through the clutch. The controller includes a fluid actuated cylinder and piston unit with a piston rod that carries an arm engages throw-out bearing positioned rearward of the actuating arms. The cylinder is normally charged with a fluid medium that urges the piston and rod forwardly to one end of the cylinder and where the throw-out bearing engages and stops the arms in their normal unactuated position.

  • Patent number: 4977775
Abstract: The Torque Transducer structure comprising a lower base plate, and an elongate torque member projecting vertically upwardly from the plate. The member has rigid upper and lower end portions and a central deflection portion that is rigid through a first radial plane through the structure and is flexible through a second radial plane of the structure which is at right angle to the first radial plane. The central portion of the member carries strain gauges and is torsionally deflected by torsional forces directed onto the upper end portion of the member. The member is subject to adverse lateral deflection through the second radial plane of the structure by lateral forces directed onto its upper end portion. The lower end portion of the member is coupled with the plate against rotation and for free pivotal movement relative thereto through said second radial plane of the structure.

  • Patent number: 4969492
Abstract: The method for filling a soft, flexible, thin-walled inflatable bladder with a fluid medium to a predetermined extent that comprises; folding a portion of the soft, flexible, thin-wall of the bladder and engaging the fold in predetermined pressure engagement between opposing clamping surfaces of a clamping device and thereafter introducing fluid medium into the bladder to fill it. The fold slides from engagement between the surfaces when the tensile forces directed onto and through the wall by the fluid medium delivered into the bladder exceed the holding force exerted by the clamping device.

  • Patent number: 4955052
Abstract: The pay phone apparatus of this invention includes a multiplicity of pay phones; a central switching board including a central switching device for each pay phone; and, a pair of telephone lines connecting each pay phone and its related switching device. Each pay phone has a coin mechanism to receive and hold nickels, dimes, and quarters deposited therein. The mechanism sends nickel, dime, and quarter coin signals to its related switching device each time a nickel, dime or quarter is deposited therein and operates to return coins held thereby to the user of the pay phone or to deliver them into a coin box in the pay phone in response to coin return and coin accept signals directed to it from the switching device.
