  • Patent number: 4782829
Abstract: Apparatus for preventing breakage of bags of tracheal tubes comprising a unitary one-piece molded unit having an elongated generally cylindrical longitudinally split main body portion terminating at one end in a restricted opening and at the other end in an open end having an elongated strip extending from one side thereof forming a handle. The handle may be an endless ring connected to the main body portion having its central axis coaxially aligned with the central axis of the main body portion. The main body portion slips over the bag, which is normally deflated, of a tracheal tube prior to insertion of the bag into an incised area or into instruments, the ring providing a handle for removing the apparatus after insertion of the tube to a predetermined depth in the patient thereby preventing breakage of the bag during insertion.

  • Patent number: 4765334
Abstract: An improved surgical device for performing thoracostomies. The device includes a holder for a curved stylet or a flexible tube and curved stylet combination which holder includes a two piece curved needle attached to a pair of handles, each handle including one part of the needle, which handles can be spread apart for insertion of a curved stylet or tube and curved stylet combination between the needle parts. When it is desired to remove the device from the patient, one of the handles having its needle part can be removed from the other handle having its needle part without disturbing the tube or stylet alone held between the needle parts. In this manner, sutures can be easily made in a chest or drainage effected in carrying out a thoracostomy.

  • Patent number: 4738584
Abstract: A dual impeller recirculating pump having a plurality of simultaneously activated motors with counterrotating shafts coupled to the motors. An impeller is coupled to each shaft and rotated thereby. The impellers rotate within an impeller housing divided into individual sections, each section opening into a common outlet coupled so that counter rotation of the impellers forces water entering the housing sections out of each section into the common outlet which acts as a mixing chamber merging the fluid flow and thus increasing the flow rate and efficiency of the pump.

  • Patent number: 4643188
Abstract: An improved surgical device for performing emergency cricothyrotomies and tracheotomies. The device includes a holder for a stylet or tube which holder includes a two-part needle attached to a pair of handles, each handle including one part of the needle, which handles can be spread apart for insertion of a tube or stylet between the needle parts. The tube or stylet is then held between the needle parts. When it is desired to remove the device from the patient, one of the handles having its needle part can be removed from the other handle having its needle part without disturbing the tube or stylet held between the needle parts. In this manner, sutures can be easily made around a chest or throat opening in which the device has been inserted since only the tube remains in place.

  • Patent number: 4624252
Abstract: An improved surgical device for performing thoracostomies and laparoscopies wherein the escape of air from the chest cavities or gas from the abdomen during such operations is prevented. The device includes a stylet holder wherein the holder includes needle halves having cooperating portions thereon for sealing off fluid flow when the portions are brought into contact. The stylet includes a needle having a bulged sharpened end adapted to seal off fluid flow so that fluid flows only through the needle. When the needle is withdrawn from between the needle halves, the needle halves are forced apart then mate so that the cooperating portions engage and seal off fluid flow.

  • Patent number: 4525090
Abstract: A liquid dispensing bottle for containing liquids having a cap thereon for sealing the contents of the bottle. An applicator is carried on the cap extending into contact with liquids at the bottom of the bottle when the cap is sealed to the bottle. When the cap is unsealed from the bottle, the applicator, carried by the cap, is now above the liquid contents at the bottom of the bottle. The applicator is reciprocal in the cap and movable axially therealong to engage any liquids at the bottom of the bottle without the need for either tilting the bottle or re-sealing the cap back onto the bottle.

  • Patent number: 4520810
Abstract: An improved apparatus and method for performing an emergency cricothyrotomy comprising a tracheostomy device which can be inserted into a patient's neck without danger of puncture of the posterior wall and which permits insertion of an airway tube without popping out of the device from the incision in the patient's neck or penetrating the posterior wall. An airway tube can be quickly and easily substituted for another airway tube of differing internal diameter without the need for redefining the puncture area or utilization of additional instrumentation. If desired, a closed system can be quickly and easily coupled to the device without the need for making a bigger opening in the patient's neck.

  • Patent number: 4498070
Abstract: An electrically isolated semi-conductor transducer and method of making the same wherein a unitary piece of silicon material having opposed flat surfaces is carved out about a central portion thereof through one flat surface forming a toroidally-shaped cavity having curved bottom surfaces partway through said material surrounding a push rod having an upper flat surface lying in the same horizontal plane as the remainder of said carved out flat surface. The upper flat surface of the push rod and the curved carved surfaces surrounding the push rod are etched exposing the silicon material. A plurality of strain gages are provided on the opposite flat uncarved surface of said silicon material. These strain gages may include four diffused silicon strain gages at spaced locations along said uncarved surface.
