Abstract: Alphanumeric images are displayed in common view in one color on a background of a different color using a liquid crystal projection device. The two colors are sufficiently similar so they are not distinguished by the unaided eye of the viewer. A color selective material in the form of glasses is provided to a subclass of the viewers in the audience to enable these viewers to distinguish the alphanumeric subtitles from the background. This material extinguishes either the alphanumeric images or the background, thereby either providing darkened letters on a light background or light letters on a darkened background. The projection and viewing apparatus can be utilized as a motion picture closed captioning system for a mixed audience of hearing impaired and non hearing impaired individuals to permit the hearing impaired to view the subtitles while those individuals not wearing such wavelength selective glasses would not see the subtitles.

Abstract: A surgical instrument for spreading apart openings of natural orifices or surgically made openings to perform procedures on internal structures and/or organs of a patient. The instrument includes a pair of upper and lower blades that open to spread apart the area being examined so that a surgical tool can be inserted therein. A second pair of lateral blades are fixedly mounted between the spaced pair of upper and lower blades. The instruments can be eliminated from the area of view by allowing the surgical tool to pass up into a gate while maintaining the spread-apart condition of the area being examined. The blades can then be restored to their closed position after the tool is withdrawn. The gate may have a plurality of notches for accommodating differing surgical tools.
Abstract: A surgical instrument having an upper and a lower blade member, each of the members having a main generally elongated blade portion, each of the members having spaced upstanding lateral sidewalls, the upper blade member being vertically, movable with respect to the lower blade member to selectively open and close the spacing between the blade members.
A light cone may be provided in the upper blade member for connection of an illuminating device for providing light to the surgeon's work area. A port may also be provided in the upper blade member for connecting a suction tube thereto for removing fluids and the like during use of the instrument.
Abstract: A surgical instrument for spreading apart the internal organs of a patient. The instrument includes a scissors-like main body portion having a plurality of blades that open to spread apart the area being examined so that a surgical tool can be inserted therein. The instrument can be withdrawn or moved out of the area of view by allowing the surgical tool to pass through a gate formed between the spread-apart blades while maintaining the spread-apart condition of the area being examined. The blades can then be restored to their closed position after the tool is withdrawn.
Abstract: A bracket for attaching a vehicle rear light guard of the grill type which has a flat flexible base for conforming to a vehicle rear light lens for adhesive affixation thereto, and a relatively rigid semi circular portion for securely engaging a portion of the guard. The bracket is fabricated from a thermoplastic material by extrusion or molding with portions of two distinct durometer readings to provide the two distinct aforestated attributes.
Abstract: A surgical instrument having a handle having a first blade fixed thereto and extending outwardly therefrom. A blade housing is pivotally mounted to the handle having a second blade fixed thereto spaced from the first blade and extending outwardly therefrom. A pair of levers are pivotally mounted to the handle, each of the levers having a blade normally disposed adjacent each other and between the first and second blades. The blade housing has an open area therethrough whereby, when the first blade is pivoted away from the second blade, the blades on the levers move apart from each other to a position generally vertical with respect to the first and second blades and a surgical instrument can be inserted through the open area between the spread apart blades.
Abstract: A bottle washing apparatus for effectively washing the inside of bottles that are coated with solid particulate residue. The apparatus includes a fixed portion that connects to a conventional faucet and an elongated closed ended hollow shaft that is provided with a plurality of small orifices. A second closed ended hollow shaft concentrically overlies the first shaft and is rotationally affixed thereto. The second shaft is provided with a plurality of smaller orifices that are tangential with the circumference of the shaft so that when water pressure is applied to the fixed portion, water passes through the orifices in the first shaft and then through the tangential orifices of the second shaft causing the second shaft to rotate at a high rate of speed while discharging the water in needle-like streams under high pressure.
Abstract: A novelty piece is fabricated from a single sheet of paper printed on both sides with indicia in registration. Scoring, perforating and cut lines are provided at predetermined positions and an adhesive is applied at preselected locations and the sheet is then folded and adhered in the folded position. a second fold into an adhered position followed by a trimming yields a completed piece ready for use. The completed piece can be selectively opened into one of two positions to display different indicia. The selective display of different indicia with either opened position can be utilized to create illusions or a multiple selection or fortune telling game.
Abstract: A novelty piece is fabricated from a continuous roll of paper printed on both sides with four separate sets of indicia. Fold lines and cut lines are provided at predetermined positions, an adhesive is applied at preselected locations, the sheet is then folded and the pieces are cut out ready for use. The final piece can be folded in a second position showing one face or side, opened to a third position showing a different face or side, opened to a fourth position showing still another different face or side, and finally opened to a the original starting position showing the original face or side. The method is particularly suited to roll fed printing presses such as the web type of press.

Abstract: A drill guide system for use in the installation of dental implants. The guides are configured in the shape of teeth and have drill bushings passing through to guide and position the drill so that the resulting hole will receive an implant that is properly positioned and aligned. The guides are provided in different configurations depending on the number of adjacent implants to be installed and have a depending pin to position the guide in an initial drilled hole. By being configured in the shape of teeth, the dental surgeon is able to position the guide prior to drilling and be able to observe how the resulting work will appear once the actual prosthetics are installed on the implants. The drill bushings not only guide the drill but provide additional patient security since the possibility of slippage or breakage of the drill bit during drilling is substantially reduced.
Abstract: A movable centerboard for water craft capable of multiple settings having an upper position within the hull, a lower position at full depth below the hull and multiple settings therebetween such that the system is adapted to receive and operate the centerboard from above. The centerboard and centerboard well are adapted to operate in concert whereby, multiple board positions may be utilized. Introduced from above, the centerboard slides down to an upper position within the hull, from here it can either pivot up completely into the well or it can continue to slide diagonally to its maximum depth whereupon it can pivot to the vertical lower position. The selected positions of the centerboard are held in place by a control pressure wedging device from above, whereupon being struck from below will release allowing the board to pivot and transverse up into the well.
