  • Patent number: 4787271
Abstract: A two speed gear box employs a planetary gear mechanism in which the planet carrier is in the form of a pinion gear which drives the second stage of the gear box. The gear box includes hydraulically actuated clutches which, in high gear, selectively lock the sun gear for rotation with the input shaft, and, in low gear, selectively lock the sun gear with respect to the housing so that the carrier pinion is driven at the speed with which the axes of the planet gears rotate about the sun gear. The annular gear includes an outwardly extending gear rack adapted to engage a generator driving mechanism. Pressurized fluid lubricant is provided to the generator housing and to the interior of the gear box housing. Expelled generator lubricant, still at relatively high pressure, powers an ejector to positively scavenge the fluid out of the gear box and return it to a cooling reservoir obviating the need for a separate scavenging pump.

  • Patent number: 4787730
Abstract: An eyeglass assembly having a left frame part, a right frame part and a nosepiece which joins the left and right frame parts together and is adapted to rest on the bridge of a nose. A saddle detachably secures the nosepiece to the frame parts and, in doing so, simultaneously locks the left and right lenses to the eyeglass assembly. In addition, the nosepiece is preferably constructed with varying lateral widths and vertical heights in order to accommodate different pupillary distances and pupillary vertical orientations for different persons.

  • Patent number: 4787319
Abstract: A framework for furniture is formed by an assembly of basic modular units or segments made each of a pair of arcuate tubes or rods disposed in a single plane and interconnected by radial tubes or rods. Feet extending perpendicular to the plane of the unit or segment can be connected to the corresponding feet of a second modular unit or segment disposed such as to form a mirror image of the first unit or segment.

  • Patent number: 4786234
Abstract: A turbine airfoil, such as a turbine blade or nozzle vane, is disclosed for use in a high temperature environment. The airfoil comprises a center post and at least one side piece. The side piece is attached to the center post so that, at room temperature, a clearance between the center post and the side piece permits limited relative movement between the post and side piece. This clearance space, however, is dimensioned so that at the operating temperature of the turbine, thermal expansion of the center post and/or side piece substantially eliminates the clearance as well as the limited movement between the center post and side piece.

  • Patent number: 4785932
Abstract: A medicine dispenser comprises a plurality of elongate open receptacles. Beneath the receptacles is an open-ended compartment having resilient bias means therein for holding prescriptions and the like. Axially aligned with each receptacle is a simulated clock face and a spinner rotatably mounted in each clock face. A finger on each spinner, when rotated, points to an hour when medicine in a respective receptacle should be taken.

  • Patent number: 4782619
Abstract: A modular fishing tackle box includes a box portion, a lid, and a plurality of modular members detachably securable beneath the box portion and to each other. The modular members can each include one or more transversely slidable drawers for containing fishing tackle or the like, accessible without detachment of the modular members from the box portion. Alternatively, the modular members can themselves be dimensioned to receive tackle therein, and moved with respect to the box portion or associated members so as to expose the fishing tackle for use. The modular members are connected to the box portion or each other by a pair of spaced slidable tongue and groove joints on the top and bottom of each member, and the bottom of the box portion. The joints are each formed as a pair of L-shaped flanges. The fishing tackle box is constructed throughout from an inert, molded plastic material, resistant to rusting and corrosion, especially from salt water.

  • Patent number: 4588628
Abstract: There is disclosed an improved floor mat construction, including a floor mat having at least one carpeted surface to which is attached, via suitable attaching means, a retainer to prevent movement of the floor mat relative to a vehicle carpet. The retainer generally has an upper bristled surface and a lower bristled surface divided by a planar surface. One or both of said upper bristled surface and said lower bristled surface may be tapered for all or part of its length.
