  • Patent number: 4822958
Abstract: A switch for controlling electric D.C., especially for a power tool held by hand during operation, for heavy duty work, preferably from an automobile battery, of 8 to 40 volts and sufficient amperage for at least about 180 watt-input into the idling tool motor, comprises a base mountable on the motor rearwall, fixed contactors on the base, a supporting member bearing shiftable contactor elements, a first engaging member on the base, another engaging member on the supporting member and pivotably engaged by the first engaging member, a resilient organ urging the two engaging members into engagement, and preferably enhancing contact pressure between the fixed and shiftable contactors when a manual actuator has pivoted the supporting member from neutral into an activating position. A restoring spring can return the supporting member automatically to neutral.

  • Patent number: 4820057
Abstract: A method is described to contactlessly measure the brake temperatures of passing railroad cars, whereby the temperatures of all current practical brake types, for instance shoe and disk brakes at the wheels, but also of separate brake disks, can be measured. The method is characterized by using a known measurement apparatus with optics followed by an infrared sensor, whereby the measurement axis of this apparatus scans the passing wheel at a height 1 to 5 cm above the rail surface, the measurement axis "looking" from the rear-bottom, namely at an anagle alpha to the horizontal of 10.degree. to 22.degree. and at an angle omega of 7.degree. to 18.degree. to a horizontal line which is perpendicular to the rails, on the wheel. The measurement apparatus is controlled by track switch means activating the apparatus as long as the wheel rolls through the measurement axis.

  • Patent number: 4817271
Abstract: A method for manufacturing a flexible heating appliance comprises placing a heating circuit comprising at least one heating wire between two layers of textile material and combining the latter either directly or with the aid of an adhesive layer, by applying heat and pressure. A lower textile layer consisting of one or several sublayers is placed on the rigid surface of a nail-studded template and the heating circuit is then laid on the lower with its wire being guided about the nail ends protruding from that layer. A second, upper textile layer is then placed on top of the lower one and the heating circuit thereon, and the two layers are joined together by means of a superimposed ironing unit comprising a rigid heatable ironing plate and, on the underside of the latter, an elastic, temperature-stable, heat-conductive pressure plate which covers the remaining protruding ends of the nails, with heating of the ironing unit with pressure and thereby thermally combining the two textile layers.

  • Patent number: 4815211
Abstract: An emergency seat belt cutter for mounting in the passenger compartment of a vehicle. The cutter has a handle, a long and narrow blade mounted longitudinally in a blade support portion integral with the handle and lugs on the handle for engagement with a sheath. The sheath has a cylindrical interior with a mounting for the inside of the vehicle, a coil spring in the bottom of the cylindrical interior and bayonet connectors for engagement with the lugs. The cutter is inserted into the sheath with pressure and a counterclockwise rotation. The cutter is removed by again applying transverse pressure and turning in a clockwise direction wherein the coil spring expels the knife into a person's palm.

  • Patent number: 4814509
Abstract: Crude 2,2-dimethyl-1,3-propanediol (NPG) is distilled in the presence of sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid or a mixture thereof, with the pH value being set between 6.5 and 7.5, preferably between 6.9 and 7.1 to prepare pure 2,2-dimethyl-1,3-propanediol.

  • Patent number: 4814722
Abstract: An amplifier for timed electrical measured signals loaded by a relatively high spurious DC voltage and fed to an analog-digital converter allows accurate measurement values using analog-digital converters of comparatively low resolution. The invention provides a signal superposed to consecutive and mutually opposite measured signals loaded with the spurious voltage that was obtained from the particular preceding signal relative to which it is inverted.

  • Patent number: 4813312
Abstract: A power-wrench bolting spindle (1) is used to insert and tighten screws or nuts. The bolting spindle is driven at one end by a motor through a reduction gear (5) and at its other end a bolting tool is seated. A torque sensor (7) is mounted between the motor and the spindle. During bolting, other essential data besides the bolting torque are ascertained. The bolting spindle is equipped with a depth sensor (24) connected to the regulating circuit to measure the depth of bolting. An angular-speed sensor is connected to the regulating circuit and measures the motor or spindle angular speed. The bolting procedure is carried out in two operational stages separated by a pause, namely an application stage (L) and a tightening stage (Z). Each of these operational stages terminates when a specific shutdown bolting torque is reached.

  • Patent number: 4808747
Abstract: Alkylidene compounds and arylidene compounds are prepared by reacting the corresponding CH-acidic compounds with carbonyl compounds in the presence of a catalyst comprising a metal compound of a metal of Groups IIA, IIIA, IVA, IB, IIB, VIB, VIIB, or VIIIB of the periodic table of elements. The rate of reaction is increased by adding 1 to 40% water referred to the weight of catalyst used.

  • Patent number: 4803887
Abstract: The object of the invention is to so design a flow-meter system for milk-collecting vehicles, that a pump, a pulse-controlled sampling device, an air separator and a flow-meter with pulse generator and display are in series in the operational direction, where a computer is provided in the display for analysis, in that independently of the particular quantity delivered, Automatically always the same amount of sample shall be withdrawn, whereby an adepquate amount of sample shall be available for analysis even for small quantities delivered, and where addiional containers are not needed for large quantities delivered, and where overrunning is avoided.

  • Patent number: 4795148
Abstract: An exercise device for the feet and legs, where the device has foot plates for exercising a supine person's feet; calf squeezers for compressing the calf muscles when the feet are exercised; and a support structure holding the foot plates in a vertical position and the calf squeezers in a horizontal position.Persons in a supine position exert a rocking movement of the foot plates and this rocking movement makes the calf muscles squeeze against the calf squeezer. This squeezing pumps blood out of the deep veins of the calf and prevents stasis of blood and clot formation in the deep veins of the calf.

  • Patent number: 4792284
Abstract: A device for creating a pressure difference in the flow of a fluid which may be a liquid or a gas and a number of technical applications. The fluid medium is fed along the longitudinal axis of a double cone, consisting of two coaxial hollow cones linked by their smallest faces. At the narrowest point of the double cone a depression occurs in the fluid flow which is made accessible to the outside by means of a lateral connection piece. Compared with a conventional venturi the present double cone offers increased efficiency owing to its special shape, which is defined by geometric parameters. The high efficiency of the double cone, which can be further improved by a special embodiment, makes the device suitable for a number of technical applications.
