  • Patent number: 4381380
Abstract: There is provided a polymeric bacteriocidal composition comprising a thermoplastic, partially cross-linked polyurethane having --NH--(C.dbd.O)--O-- urethane linkages and/or urea linkages --NH--(C.dbd.O)--NH-- and iodine complexed with a sufficient number of these linkages to provide bacteriocidal properties to said composition. The polyurethane has an average molecular weight between 35,000 and 50,000, an ultimate elongation of 200 to 800% and a Shore A scale hardness of 60 to 95. The composition is shaped into a conventional medical appliance form, e.g. a catheter.

  • Patent number: 4380139
Abstract: An anchoring apparatus for mobile homes comprising a pair of fluke members rotatably and slidably mounted on a pin. Each of the fluke members is constructed of a top plate and a pair of support arms secured to the top plate. Each support arm defines a slot into which the pin is positioned so that upon rotation of the fluke members the support arms of each fluke member abut against the top plate of the other fluke member to prevent further movement of the fluke members.

  • Patent number: 4378801
Abstract: A fixed high frequency oscillator, variable frequency divider, and low frequency timer are provided to produce a high frequency output pulse group which is terminated at different intervals by both the variable frequency divider and the timer. The characteristics of the frequency divider may be varied to produce a number of modes of generator operation, all of which utilize a single high frequency output. The generator includes apparatus for producing a voltage spike as one of the pulses of each output group with a crest ratio of at least 3:1 in the cut command group and at least 14:1 in the fulgurate mode. The spike reionizes the current path through tissue without excessive tissue destruction due to wasted power and is minimized in dessicate mode where reionization arcing is undesirable. A pair of opto-isolated hand-held switches allow the user to select continuously between two preset modes of operation without risking shock.

  • Patent number: 4362217
Abstract: The present specification describes and claims a downhole casing shearer for use in drilling bore holes. The casing shearer comprises an elongate, generally cylindrical sub-member which is connected between a drilling bit and a drill rod string and which engages within a hollow cylindrical shearer, the trailing end of the shearer being connected to a conventional bore hole liner, so that the shearer may rotate about its longitudinal axis with the liner stationary. The sub-member and shearer are interlocked by a releasable locking mechanism which prevents relative rotation therebetween but which allows both for the axial drilling pressure to be applied to the shearer and the shearer to be lifted, and for the drilling bit, sub-member and rod string to be lifted through the liner leaving the shearer and liner in the bore hole, when the locking mechanism is released.

  • Patent number: 4359052
Abstract: A variable temperature cautery comprising a housing configured to retain a voltage source with an adaptor plug and associated heating tip assembly in operative relation to each other. A control assembly is movably attached to the housing to operatively couple a conductor disposed within the housing and the voltage source. The conductor is movable into and out of operative engagement with the adaptor plug by an actuator mechanism to selectively deliver an infinite variety of voltages to the removable heating tip assembly of the cautery. The housing or handle of the cautery is encapsulated and sterilized by placing it in a sterile bag device. A disposable tip assembly is used in conjunction with the cautery handle and covering bag and is provided with sharpened electrode leads which puncture the bag and fit into the instrument handle so that current can flow to the wire loop cutting area to provide a hot cutting tip.

  • Patent number: 4358288
Abstract: Fertility in females, especially human females, is evaluated by contacting a mucin-containing body fluid such as saliva with a fertility evaluation medium comprising an anthocyanin pigment and a substrate which facilitates generation of a color response in the pigment, in the presence of vaginal fluid or substances similar to those found in the vaginal fluid, especially ascorbic acid and sugars. A resulting color change in the fertility evaluation medium can be used to determine whether the female is not fertile at that time, whether fertility is imminent in the female, or whether the female actually is fertile.

  • Patent number: 4357119
Abstract: The invention relates to a fitting comprising a male component and a female component respectively to be attached to furniture wall parts to be joined together normal to one another. The former comprises a male member and a shank bearing circumferential ribs to hold the shank in a hole bored in one of the furniture parts, and the latter is in the form a part cylindrical body likewise ribbed to hold the body in a hole bored in the other furniture part. The body constitutes a socket formed to interrupt the lateral wall of the body so that the socket opens radially of the body; the hole formed in the respective furniture part being of complementary form to interrupt an end edge of the furniture part. The male member further comprises a recess in part delineated by a ledge and tapered end faces of flanges of the male member; and the female component further comprises a resilient tongue.
