Abstract: Techniques to determine and indicate the extent to which transitions of an input signal deviate from a desired transition region. In an implementation, an indication may be provided when a transition of an input signal occurs within the desired transition region and an indication may be provided when a transition of an input signal occurs outside the desired transition reagion. In an implementation, a difference between a number of times when input signal transitions occur inside and outside of the desired transition region may be provided. Accordingly, a receiver of the input signal may decide whether to ignore or use the input signal based on the difference between a number of times when input signal transitions occur inside and outside of the desired transition region.
Abstract: Briefly, an oscillator device with impedance elements to prevent premature improper biasing of transistor nodes and to increase the maximum possible peak-to-peak signal swing.
Abstract: Techniques to speed the manufacturing process of devices such as optical signal transmitters, transponders, or transceivers by utilizing automated extinction ratio adjustment.
Abstract: Techniques to adjust sampling times of an input signal. The techniques may utilize multi-level modification of the phase of a sampling clock. For example, the level of modification of the phase of the sampling clock may depend on the phase angle of the sampling clock in which transitions of the input signal occur.

Abstract: Briefly, in accordance with one embodiment of the invention, a system includes: a network interface unit (NIU). The network interface unit (NIU) is adapted to monitor bandwidth utilization of the netrwork interface unit and adjust the minimum interval for the transmission of a flow control packet, based, at least in part, on the bandwidth utilization determination. Briefly, in accordance with another embodiment of the invention, an apparatus includes at least one integrated circuit. The integrated circuit includes the capability, either alone or in combination with other integrated circuits, to monitor the receive rate utilization of a network interface unit and adjust the minimum interval for the transmission of a flow control frame, based, at least in part, on the receive rate utilization determined.
Abstract: Techniques to ensure reconnection between a modem and a server modem on hold. A first communication path between a modem and a sever modem may be interrupted to open a second communication path between a telephone and a third party terminal. When the second communication path is terminated, the techniques ensure reconnection to the first communication path by requesting the central office to cycle among paths until a server modem that is ready to reconnect is detected.
Abstract: Briefly, DC offset cancellation techniques that utilize one of multiple sources of a DC offset cancellation signal. The DC offset cancellation techniques may be used by a limiting amplifier.
Abstract: An apparatus and method for detecting a connection to a data transmission network functions by detecting the network signal energy on a network cable while avoiding the problems of excessive power consumption and generation of excessive electrical noise. By monitoring the receive network lines and determining if there is electrical energy on the cable in the form particular to the type of network supported by the network adaptor card, the host computing device can power-down the transceiver associated with the network adaptor card until an active network connection is detected.
Abstract: A semiconductor-based tunable optical dispersion compensation method and apparatus for multiple channels. In one aspect of the present invention, an apparatus according to an embodiment of the present invention includes a semiconductor material. An optical path through the semiconductor material is included. The optical path is optically coupled to receive an optical beam. A nonlinearly chirped Bragg grating is disposed in the semiconductor material. The optical path includes the nonlinearly chirped Bragg grating to substantially reduce chromatic dispersion in the optical beam.
Abstract: Techniques to tune a frequency of a sinusoidal signal using devices having controllable signal phase delay times. One implementation may include an input terminal to receive an input signal; a first delay path to selectively receive the input signal; a second delay path to selectively receive the input signal; and a control terminal to control an extent to which the input signal flows through the first delay path and the second delay path.

Abstract: A device that compensates for focal point drift of transmitted optical beams caused by ambient temperature changes by using a position adjuster to adjust the alignment of channels of a target planar lightwave circuit (“PLC”). The channels of the target PLC may taper open. In one implementation, the device may also use a birefringence plate to compensate for polarization dependent focal point drift.
