  • Patent number: 6012555
Abstract: A wheelchair braking system, for use on a wheelchair having a frame and a pair of wheels, comprising an axle assembly attached to one of the wheels. The axle assembly is supported within a block assembly. The axle assembly has a locking gear comprising a plurality of gear teeth. The block assembly is mounted within a housing and is capable of controlled vertical motion within the housing. The housing is rigidly mounted to the frame. A main spring is located between the housing and block, such that weight upon the wheelchair compresses the main spring and allows the block to move upward within the housing. A foremast assembly having a foremast body is mounted to the housing such that when the block is lowered sufficiently within the housing, the foremast body engages the gear teeth and stops the gear from rotating.

  • Patent number: 6012176
Abstract: A visor supported display system may be worn by a user to enable visual information to be selectively viewed by the user. The visor supported display is arranged with a housing including a main portion that is fixable to an underside of a visor. A movable portion of the housing is movably fixed to the main portion so that it may be moved to a down or open position so that visual information can be viewed. When the viewing of the visual information is no longer necessary, the movable portion may be moved to a closed or up position, improving the forward looking view of the user. A source of the visual information may most preferably be provided separate to, and external of, the visor supported display.

  • Patent number: 6009814
Abstract: An expandable table, comprising a tabletop layer, a guide layer, an actuation layer, a central axis, and a base. The tabletop layer comprises a plurality of segments, each having a pair of segment sides which meet at a segment point. When the tabletop is in the retracted position, all segment sides correspond with segment sides of adjacent segments, and the segment points meet at the central axis of the table. The guide layer comprises a plurality of radial guide slots which equal in number the number of segments. The actuation layer comprises a plurality of arcuate slots which equal the guide slots and which spiral outward from and around the center. A vertical rod extends downward from each of the segments and engages one of the radial guide slots and one of the arcuate actuating slots. The position of each segment is thus at all times defined by the relative position of its associated guide slot and actuating slot.

  • Patent number: 6009838
Abstract: A hibernation enclosure comprising an insulated cabinet and a cooling device to effect cooling and maintain temperature therein at selected temperature values. A control unit is operatively connected to the cooling device having a thermostat for selectively switching the cooling device on and off according to preselected temperature values and the current temperature within the hibernation enclosure. The control unit is programmable, having a control panel to allow a user to program the hibernation length, and to program temperature values that may vary throughout the duration of the hibernation period in accordance with the needs of the particular caged reptile. The hibernation enclosure further comprises a humidifier to maintain optimal humidity for the hibernating reptile and a motion sensor located within the walls of the cabinet to detect movement by the caged animal in order to alert a caretaker that the hibernating reptile is withdrawing prematurely from the hibernation.

  • Patent number: 6007102
Abstract: An adjustable wheel-well skirt system for fitting within wheel-well openings of a vehicle and covering the wheel-well openings and wheel-well cavities which are defined by the wheel-well openings. The wheel-well skirt system comprises a number of adjustable wheel-well skirts corresponding in number to the number of wheel-well openings of the vehicle. Each adjustable wheel-well skirt is sized and shaped substantially similar to the size and shape of the respective wheel-well opening it will engage. When secured to the vehicle, each adjustable wheel-well skirt fills the wheel-well opening, giving the vehicle a smooth, continuous appearance. A track extends from each adjustable wheel-well skirt and slideably engages a bracket which is mounted to the vehicle behind the wheel-well opening.
