Abstract: Pultruded and extruded structures are presented. The pultruded and extruded structures are hollow structures, are used for structural distribution poles and transmission towers for electricity, may include lighting components and may include antenna wires in the hollow structures for telecommunications. The pultruded and extruded structures include combination pultruded-filament wound or “pull wound” structures. The pultruded and extruded structures are pultruded or extruded in pre-determined sizes and shapes, plural colors, are environmentally safe, aesthetic pleasing and resistant to damage from weather, animals, insects and resistant to corrosion.
Abstract: Device for removing a bundle from the casing of a heat exchanger, comprising a carrier frame provided with pulling means for removing the bundle from the casing, wherein the carrier frame is adapted to hold the bundle removed from the casing, wherein the device is provided with hoisting means for hoisting the carrier frame, wherein the hoisting means comprise at least one gripper and wherein the device is also provided with connecting means for connecting the gripper releasably to the carrier frame.
Abstract: The present invention relates generally to an anti-calculus composition and method for treating subgingival calculus. The anti-calculus composition comprises a pyrophosphate and a tripolyphosphate in a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. The composition may also comprise a fluoride providing compound.

Abstract: The present invention relates to methods for enhancing the hemodynamic stability of an individual undergoing surgery by administering a composition comprising a hemoglobin-based oxygen carrier. In one embodiment, the present invention relates to the use of polyalkylene oxide modified hemoglobins with reduced cooperativity and a high oxygen affinity to enhance oxygen offloading as a preventative measure to avoid hemodynamic stability-related complications during surgery.
Abstract: A cardiac support device comprising a jacket of flexible and biocompatible material having a first axis for alignment generally parallel to a longitudinal axis of a patient's heart and a second axis that is transverse to the first axis. The material exhibits an amount of expansion in response to a force applied to the material along the first axis that is different than an amount of expansion in response to the force applied to the material along the second axis.

Abstract: A flush valve is provided for discharging fluid from a tank. The flush valve includes a flapper. The flapper includes a frame portion and a hollow float portion rotatably connected to the frame portion. A relative rotational position between the frame portion and the float portion adjusts at least one opening formed between the frame portion and the float portion, and controls an amount of fluid discharged from the tank by variably adjusting buoyancy of the flapper.
Abstract: A method for managing the pericardium during intra-pericardial procedures such as the delivery of cardiac support devices. One embodiment of the method includes making an incision through the pericardium to provide access to the pericardial space, and inserting a plurality of strips of lubricious material into and through the incision. The strips of material are spaced around the edges of the incision to form a tubular barrier against the pericardium. End portions of the strips of material in the pericardial space are expanded away from the body to form a lip that lines the inside of the pericardium around the incision.

Abstract: A bottle opening wristband, having: a pivot member; a buckle loop rotatably connected to the pivot member; a first projection extending from a center edge of the buckle loop, the projection being dimensioned to be received under an edge of a bottle cap; and a second projection positioned opposite the first projection, wherein the first and second projections are positioned on opposite sides of the pivot member.
Abstract: An apparatus for placing a cardiac support device (CSD) on a heart. The apparatus includes a body, a deployment mechanism on the body for supporting the CSD in an open position for placement on the heart, and a release mechanism coupled to the deployment mechanism for releasably mounting the CSD to the deployment mechanism. The release mechanism includes a release element for releasably engaging the CSD, and a release actuator coupled to the release element for actuating the release element to release the CSD.
