Abstract: A scalpel for performing complex surgeries, such as c-sections, is formed of a body that is preferably elongated and shaped and sized to fit ergonomically into the hands of surgeons. The body has surfaces that are joined to each other by smooth transition elements to insure that the body has no points or sharp edges that could cut or scratch the surgeon or the patient. The body is formed with a triangular notch formed of a beak and an extension. A surgical blade, preferably a standard off-the-shelf surgical blade, is imbedded in the body and the only portion of the blade that is accessible is a portion of its cutting edge spanning the notch. The scalpel is used by introducing the beak into a slit in the tissue with the blade portion facing the direction in which the cut is to be made. The body of the scalpel is then grasped firmly and advanced to make the cut. The initial incision can be made with the tip of the beak.
Abstract: A sander comprises a body member molded of polypropylene to which a soft pad member is integrally molded or directly bonded thereto. Preferably, the material comprising the pad member is of a thermoplastic elastomer material, such as Santoprene®. Significantly, when the pad member is molded directly to the body member, the pad has internal dimensions only slightly larger than the external dimensions of the body member so that, when the body member is located within the confines of the pad member, a secure fit is formed between these two members, without any space between them. Further, the respective dimensions of the body member and pad member give the sander a thick, one-piece appearance in side and end views. The pad member may also include a plurality of openings which help provide a “spongy” effect to the user, smoothing the peaks and reaching the valleys of an uneven surface upon which the sander is utilized.
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for identifying species and subspecies in a biological sample through the selective amplification of segments of nucleic acid that code a target region of the cytoplasmatic beta-actin protein, which is present in all the organisms concerned. The method comprises DNA extraction from the sample; amplification of divergent segments of the cytoplasmatic beta-actin gene by PCR or an equivalent technique, using primers of regions with high evolutionary conservation between species and subspecies; and identification of the amplified segment by comparison of its size in base pairs with a pre-established standard of sizes and/or identification of the amplified segment by DNA sequencing and comparison of the resulting sequence with the specific sequence of each species or subspecies present on a computer database.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a Ball Grid Array (BGA) package board. The BGA package board includes a first external layer on which a pattern comprising a circuit pattern and a wire bonding pad pattern is formed, a second external layer on which a pattern comprising a circuit pattern and a solder ball pad pattern is formed, an insulating layer formed between the first and second external layers, a first outer via hole to electrically connect the first and second external layers to each other, and a solder resist layer formed on each of the first and second external layers, with portions of the solder resist layer corresponding to the wire bonding pad pattern and the solder ball pad pattern being opened. The solder ball pad pattern is thinner than the circuit pattern of the second external layer.

Abstract: Content is received by a device through a port and is analyzed based on a set of predetermined criteria to determine if it matches the characteristics of the device and/or the preferences of a user. The content characteristics are recognized by analyzing the content itself or from tags attached to, associated with or embedded into the content. Acceptable content is then rendered to the user.
Abstract: A linkage comprised of at least four links is provided. Each of the links has a polygonal profile with each link having at least two hinged axes that do not intersect one another. Each link is connected to at least two other links by the non-intersecting axes such that the linkage can smoothly transform from an extended surface into a compact bundle. The linkage can be constructed into the form of a foldable chair, a foldable table or a foldable wall.
Abstract: An improved system and methods for increasing security at sensitive locations from unwanted third parties through the use of fluidized granular solids.
