Abstract: A portable light is disclosed comprising at least one light emitting diode, a power source, a switch operable for closing an electronic circuit between the power source and the light emitting diode, wherein when the electronic circuit is closed the at least one diode emits light generally about a first axis, and a body adapted to receive the light emitting diode, the battery and the switch, the body comprising a loop portion towards one end thereof defining a loop aperture having an axis which is substantially parallel to the first axis.
Abstract: A light support comprising a base plate and a light-carrying plate comprising a proximal end mounted to the base plate and being adapted for mounting a light thereon. The base plate comprises an anchoring element, an anti-tipping assembly and a concave support-mounting face. The anchoring element is adapted to be anchored within a penetrable material. The support mounting face co-acts with a surface on which the light support is mounted to. The light support further comprises an auxiliary element that comprises an auxiliary mounting element or an auxiliary anchoring element that can be moveable or stationary.
Abstract: There is disclosed a balanced interconnector comprising first and second like connecting elements, each of the connecting elements comprising an elongate center section and a pair of parallel IDCs opening in substantially opposite directions, the IDCs attached substantially at right angles to and at opposite ends of the elongate center sections, each of the connecting elements lying in different parallel plains. The first and second connecting elements are arranged such that the elongate center sections are opposite one another and the IDCs of the first connecting element are not opposite the IDCs of the second connecting element. In a particular embodiment the connecting elements of adjacent pairs of connecting elements are at right angles. The positioning and geometry of the connecting elements.
Abstract: Described herein are a method for recording luminescent compositions, comprising a) providing a luminescent composition which comprises at least a first and second luminescent compound, wherein the first luminescent compound is a donor compound having a peak luminescent emission spectrum at a given wavelength, wherein the second luminescent compound is an acceptor compound having a peak absorption spectrum at a longer wavelength than the given wavelength, and wherein the emission spectrum of the donor compound at least partially overlaps the absorption spectrum of the acceptor compound; b) combining the composition with a substrate, so that at least a portion of the composition is available for exposure to a photon source; and c) embedding information at predetermined sites in the combined composition by localized exposure to a photon source, the embedding resulting in an information pattern when exposed to a luminescence deciphering device, and uses of said information pattern.

Abstract: A novel Bacillus thuringiensis strain deposited at the International Depository Authority of Health Canada in Winnipeg under accession number IDAC010201-5, its crystal gene having the sequence SEQ ID NO: 1 and crystal protein encoded by same having the sequence SEQ ID NO: 2 and uses thereof. More specifically, the present invention is concerned with a novel Bacillus thuringiensis, novel cry31 protoxin and toxin, nucleotide sequences encoding same and anti-cancer therapeutic applications for the toxin.
Abstract: A multifunction multi-spectrum signalling device comprising at least one source of electromagnetic radiation such as an LED which emits radiation according to predefined or programmable user selectable instruction sets is disclosed. Reversal of the polarity of the device's power supply allows for enhanced features to be accessed including a recording/reprogramming mode and a playback mode.
Abstract: A use of an inoculum of a geldanamycin-producing strain able to survive in a plant rhizosphere as a biocontrol of common scab affecting the plant and a method for biocontrolling common scab comprising the use of such strain. A biologically pure culture of a Streptomyces strain deposited at the American Type Culture Collection (ATCC) Accession number BAA-668, or a variant thereof.
Abstract: A block connector for pre-cast building blocks comprising a top body portion to be fitted into the bottom surface groove of an upper block and a bottom body portion to be fitted into the top surface groove of a lower block. The top and bottom body portions define three pairs of lateral sides. When mounting the blocks about first pair of lateral sides no offset between the blocks is provided. When mounting the blocks about the second pair of lateral sides, an offset is provided. When mounting the blocks about the third pair of lateral sides, an offset is provided that is greater than the offset of the second pair of lateral sides. A kit for building walls including a plurality of these blocks and block connectors is also disclosed.
Abstract: A device and a method for raising and supporting the foundation of a building, using a mobile assembly comprising facing jaws and an arm pivotable between a first position where an area between the facing jaws is open and a second position where this area is closed, actuating means adapted to draw the mobile assembly driving a pile secured between the facing jaws when the arm is in the second position, downwardly in the ground, the pile being made of a series of pile sections that are connected together. A pile section that needs to be added to the pile is front-loaded into position atop the pile and between the facing jaws when the arm is in the first position.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a novel cement composition. This cement may be combined with a number of different products, including residual materials such as polystyrene, glass, cork, fiberglass, cellulose fibers, wood fibers and wood shavings, as well as with minerals or compositions such as zonolite or vermiculite. The resultant concrete exhibits physical and chemical characteristics that make it suitable for use in construction projects, including resistance to freeze-thaw cycles.
Abstract: A keying system for providing selective interconnection between a receptacle socket and a connector plug terminating an optic fibre, the connector plug adapted for insertion into the receptacle socket. The keying system comprises a raised boss configured to one of a plurality of predefined boss keying geometries and a cavity configured to one of a plurality of predefined cavity keying geometries. The boss is either in one of the receptacle socket or on a forward end of the connector plug and the cavity is formed in the other of the receptacle socket or the forward end of the connector plug. At least one of the predefined boss keying geometries matches at least one of the predefined cavity keying geometries. When the boss keying geometry matches the cavity keying geometry, the boss can be inserted into the cavity thereby interconnecting the connector plug with the receptacle socket.

Abstract: A new and distinct apple tree cultivar named ‘SJCA38R6A74’ is primarily adapted to the growing conditions of Northern Eastern Central Canada. The fruit of ‘SJCA38R6A74’, which hangs well on tree, is a dessert apple having very good firmness, crispness and flavor, high quality flesh and a long shelf life. The phenol (oxidative agent) content of this cultivar's fruit is significantly lower than that of other known cultivars, including Cortland which is the most popular apple variety for transformation. No browning of the fruit occurs after cutting (even after 4-5 days at room temperature), without adding any chemical, which makes it an excellent candidate for fresh fruit slice, fruit salad, dried apple chips and processing (juice, cider).
