  • Patent number: 7674046
Abstract: A keying system for providing selective interconnection between a receptacle socket and a connector plug terminating an optic fibre, the connector plug adapted for insertion into the receptacle socket. The keying system comprises a raised boss configured to one of a plurality of predefined boss keying geometries and a cavity configured to one of a plurality of predefined cavity keying geometries. The boss is either in one of the receptacle socket or on a forward end of the connector plug and the cavity is formed in the other of the receptacle socket or the forward end of the connector plug. At least one of the predefined boss keying geometries matches at least one of the predefined cavity keying geometries. When the boss keying geometry matches the cavity keying geometry, the boss can be inserted into the cavity thereby interconnecting the connector plug with the receptacle socket.

  • Patent number: 7655408
Abstract: This invention concerns the discovery of two distinct PCA3 mRNA sequences. One of these sequences corresponds to a short PCA3 mRNA molecule whereas the other PCA3 RNA molecule is longer as it comprises an additional sequence between exon 3 and exon 4a. The short RNA is associated with prostate cancer whereas the long RNA sequence is associated with a non-malignant state of the prostate. Based on the differential expression levels of these two PCA3 RNA sequences, protocols for the diagnosis of prostate disease are provided. The invention also relates to therapeutic approaches to prostate cancer.

  • Patent number: 7622273
Abstract: The invention provides a simple and quick protocol for chemical treatment, enzymatic or chemical digestion, and subsequent identification of proteins or polypeptides on a protein chip such as protein chip arrays. The chemical treatment includes denaturation, reduction and alkylation while the enzymatic digestion includes deglycosylation, dephosphorylation, and digestion by various proteases. The proteins or polypeptides can also be digested by using various chemicals that are known to induce proteolysis. All reactions are carried out sequentially on chip. Subsequent peptide mass fingerprinting or product ion searches allow the identification of specific peptides, which can be correlated to proteins. The methods of the present invention can be used to analyze biological samples such as urine and plasma and to identify biomarkers in diseased states.

  • Patent number: 7606017
Abstract: A lightning protection or internal surge device designed to suppress surges on electrical transmission or distribution lines by expending some of the excess energy in the form of corona discharge in both wet and dry conditions. The device is a very thin (of diameter not exceeding 0.1 mm) conducting wire, fiber, filament, or a bundle of such filaments, or a yarn or woven or knitted fabric made of such fibers or wires which is wound around a live conductor or ground wire forming a coil. When the coil is exposed to the fields created by the voltage surges on the line or ground wire it enhances corona losses on the line thereby damping/suppressing the surges as well as prolonging the front time of the surge to reduce its steepness.
