  • Patent number: 5881331
Abstract: An operation control device is provided in an electro-developing type camera using a recording medium which electronically develops an image formed by a photographing optical system. During a reading operation, in which the image recorded in the electro-developing recording medium is being read, if a recording operation is set by operation of a main switch, an enforced recording operation is started. During the enforced recording operation, pixel signals of one horizontal scanning line of the image are read through a line sensor. Then, a shutter is closed, a light source is turned OFF, and a scanning mechanism is withdrawn to a position at which the scanning mechanism does not interfere with the optical path of the photographing optical system. If a recording medium installed in the camera has not been recorded upon, a recording operation is started and an image is recorded in the new recording medium.

  • Patent number: 5860322
Abstract: A drive mechanism of a suction or deflection adjustment roll having a spur wheel gear. For a suction roll, a stationary suction box may be guided outward through the drive mechanism to be coupled with a suction device. An external gear ring may be rigidly coupled to a driven or gear end of the roll to mesh with a driven pinion. The driven pinion may be driven via a drive shaft coupled to the driven pinion through a pair of enmeshed gears. The driven pinion and an end of the drive shaft coupled to the pinion may each include a self-adjusting bearing, each self-adjusting bearing being adjacently positioned and supported on a bearing journal. The self-adjusting bearing associated with the end of the drive shaft may exhibit radial play with respect to one of an inside diameter of the drive shaft or an outside diameter of the bearing journal, which may permit tilting of the pinion with respect to the bearing journal.

  • Patent number: 5848312
Abstract: A camera with a built-in strobe includes a camera body and a camera grip provided in the camera body. In the grip, a battery, a spool and a main strobe capacitor are provided. An elongated space, with extends in the camera grip along the longitudinal direction thereof, is defined so as to be surrounded by the battery, the spool and the main strobe capacitor. A strobe circuit board is roughly formed into an L-shape so as to have a cutout portion, and a motor is arranged in the cut-out portion of the strobe circuit board. As a result, the motor and the circuit board can be housed effectively within the smallest possible space within the camera grip. Further, by this arrangement, it becomes possible to realize a small-sized camera provided with a built-in strobe.

  • Patent number: 5835129
Abstract: A flexible multipoint composition and bridging system is provided for video signal composition and bridging of a plurality of geographically dispersed locations. The system includes a centrally located bridging unit that receives video, audio and data signal substreams from each of the remote locations. Based on the data substreams from each location, the bridging unit resizes, cuts and pastes the various images into separate video montage images for display at each of the locations. The system enables users to optionally display video images or signals from one or more of the other locations within separate display windows at their respective terminals. The display windows can be zoomed, panned, scaled, translated, and partially or wholly occluded depending on a user's preferences or needs. The video images may be composed in signal space or entirely in transform space. Further, the flexible multipoint bridging system may be used for various applications, including video conferencing and broadcasting.

  • Patent number: 5759799
Abstract: An incubation limit marker for revealing the growth of contaminants present in a sample includes at least one strain or category of classically contaminant bacteria in dehydrated form which, once regenerated, will be present at a maximum concentration of 10.sup.3 CFU/ml. The incubation limit marker also includes a medium used for the dehydration of the contaminant bacterium or bacteria which includes a substrate capable of being degraded by the bacterium or bacteria. The incubation limit marker further includes an indicator of the growth of the bacterium or bacteria, for example, constituted by a colored indicator of changes in pH. A process for the "in vitro" detection of the susceptibility of pathogenic bacteria to various antibiotics present in MIC (i.e., Minimal Inhibitory Concentration) in culture or antibiogram media is carried out directly from the sample of the infected medium, in the presence of the above marker, used as a signal which limits the reading time of the antibiogram.

  • Patent number: 5737815
Abstract: A method and apparatus for maintaining a yarn take-up point stationary. A first sensor, such as an optical sensor, is positioned proximate a first location of a yarn travel path to output a first signal representative of the position of a yarn at the first location. A second sensor, such as another optical sensor, is positioned proximate a second location of the yarn travel path to output a second signal representative of the yarn at the second location. A controller controls a temperature of a fluid employed to heat the yarn. The controller receives the first signal and the second signal, which are analyzed to produce a heat control signal that is used to control the temperature of the fluid. The heated fluid is used to texturize the yarn, such that the yarn is tensioned and maintained so that a yarn take-up point is substantially stationary.

  • Patent number: 5702842
Abstract: A process for charging and discharging zinc/bromine batteries with a plurality of anode and cathode chambers into and from which anolyte or catholyte fluids are fed and drained. Metallic zinc is deposited on the anode and atomic and/or molecular bromine is deposited at the cathode, and bromine is bonded in an only slightly water soluble complex with a complex-forming agent from the aqueous phase. The anolyte and/or catholyte fluids are circulated periodically. The oleophilic cathode phase is separated from the hydrophilic cathode phase. Only the aqueous phase of the catholyte is circulated through the cathode chambers, and the times at which the fluid is circulated is dependent upon the temperature of the anolyte in the anode chambers.
