  • Patent number: 4640685
Abstract: The invention discloses a protective light shield to reduce the harmful effects of resin-curing lights used in dentistry. This is a shield made principally of a single sheet of filtering plastic, shaped in a convenient paddle configuration. The dimension of the filter-paddle is sufficient to block all direct and reflected light from the tooth of the patient that would possibly be seen by any personnel in the operatory. A portion of the paddle is provided with a magnifier which may be employed by the physician for closer inspection of the tooth being operated on. Additionally, a relatively thin intensity-filtering material is applied to the back of the light paddle so that the intensity of the filtered light is reduced for the increased comfort and protection of the physician.

  • Patent number: 4605992
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a lighting fixture thermal insulating system which incorporates the spaceage technology of layered metallized polymer insulation. The present invention utilizes a structure and combination which yields an insulation system of superior performance while being cost competitive and because of reduced space requirement creates greater freedom of design in the manufacture of lighting fixtures. The laminations of metallized polymer and a spacer material may be located above or below the mounting pan or both. For reasons of economy, simple aluminum foil may be used to replace the metallized polymer with only slightly reduced performance.

  • Patent number: 4601182
Abstract: A steering wheel disabling device intended for anti-theft purposes includes a necessary component of the steering mechanism which may be easily removed by the vehicle operator. The intermediate component comprises a hollow cylinder with internal and external splines. This interlock cylinder is insertable into the steering wheel of the vehicle through an access door on the face of the steering wheel.

  • Patent number: 4593157
Abstract: Computer-aided speech-recognition circuitry is incorporated in a telephone receiver and programmed to recognize utterances given in response to a request for directory assistance. The information number given is displayed on the face of the receiver and stored for dialing out. An automatic dial out feature is included. The system is dormant until activated by a digit recognition circuit which samples all outgoing numbers dialed and is responsive to the 555-1212 digit sequence or any other digit sequence desired.

  • Patent number: 4584913
Abstract: This invention relates to an improved "lever lock" type wrench which has ratchet characteristics and a novel construction which makes it convenient to use. The construction includes an angled and compact head portion, a quick-release lever, and fully enclosed internal working elements which protects them from grease and dirt. Furthermore, a particular geometry is disclosed which permits the minimum amount of handle rotation for the wrench jaws to achieve the next successive grip in the ratcheting mode.

  • Patent number: 4577402
Abstract: A stud with a threaded shank at one end and a flat head at the other end. Between the threaded shank and the flat head is a collar of smaller diameter than the head, but of larger diameter than the threaded shank. The collar has a knurled portion adjacent the head to secure the stud to a printed circuit board. At the juncture of the collar with the threaded shank, the collar forms a shoulder or seat upon which the heat sink and the semi-conductor case rest in spaced relation with the printed circuit board. A nut is then threaded onto the shank to secure the stud, the heat sink, the semi-conductor case and the printed circuit board to each other.

  • Patent number: 4555928
Abstract: A press for assembling a fastener or the like to a plate or the like comprises a frame and an anvil assembly carried by the frame. A linkage mechanism assembly is carried by the frame and includes two links. A ram assembly is operatively connectable to one of the two links. A first fluid operated cylinder and piston assembly holds the ram assembly in a raised position. A first switch terminates the flow of fluid to the first cylinder, thereby permitting the ram assembly to drop. A second fluid switch is activated after a sufficient drop of said piston to energize a second fluid operated cylinder and piston assembly for extending and retracting said links, and thereby move one of said links into force transmitting relationship with said ram assembly, to thereby cause said ram assembly to move forcefully down toward the fastener for the purpose of installing the fastener into the plate.

  • Patent number: 4544182
Abstract: The present invention relates to the field of office file labeling and discloses a label which is less expensive to manufacture and to apply to a normal numeric filing system. The label employs a color-coding system and includes perforations which permit unwanted portions of the label to be removed prior to application. The label is for numeric end-tab filing and is reversible about its central fold-line. Individual digits are rotated 180 degrees with respect to corresponding digits on the opposite side of the fold-line so that the digits are in readable orientation in either the reversed or non-reversed condition.

  • Patent number: 4526128
Abstract: A vertical-feed conveyor for cylindrical objects and the like utilized twin counter-rotating helical feed screws. The thread of the feed screws is shaped so as to create conveyance troughs which are closely dimensioned to the object to be moved. The variable pitch of the screws creates zones of acceleration, deceleration and dwell so that the objects may be sequentially delivered to predetermined indexing stations where various processes may be performed upon the objects such as; internal spray coating, capping, electronic non-destructive testing, etc. The points of dwell along the feed screws are achieved by the shape of the radial sidewalls of the feed screws which at those points extend part way around the screw in radial planes of the screw.
