  • Patent number: 5068757
Abstract: In a servo tracking method and apparatus, a servo head (S) of a helical scan recorder (30) endeavors to travel equidistant between two servo signal-bearing stripes recorded on the tape (32). The recorder (30) determines a reference-crossing time at which the servo head (S) begins to cross a horizontal reference line (606) drawn with respect to the beginning of a stripe on the tape (32). The servo head (S) samples the amplitude of a servo signal provided on the tape (32) at a plurality of predetermined times after the reference-crossing time. A servo tracking circuit (175) uses the amplitude of the servo signal at the predetermined sampling times to determine how to adjust the position of said head (S) relative to the pitch of said stripe.

  • Patent number: 5065288
Abstract: A headlight has a parabolic shaped reflector (8) with an incandescent lamp whose filament (13) is defocussed, or approximately at a focus point for distribution, by the reflector. A light-transmissive shield (4) has upper and lower zones (1 and 2) with prism-like optical devices (5 and 6) thereon which are respectively positioned above and below a horizontal middle plane of the reflector. Both zones are bordered by a vertical middle plane of the headlight. The upper zone extends to an oncoming traffic side while the lower zone extends to the other side and its upper edge is approximately bordered by the horizontal middle portion of the reflector. In this connection, the prism-like optical devices are arranged so that light beams passing therethrough are diverted to a partial area (100, 200) of a light figure of the headlight which, on a driving side, is at a higher level than on the oncoming traffic side.

  • Patent number: 5064185
Abstract: An envelope processing system (20) includes an input transport section (22); a processing/transport section (24); and a discharge transport section (28). Envelopes are fed on-edge from the input transport section to the processing/transport section (24) by a feeder section (40) comprising a feeder (72) and a feed assist device (80). When a signal controller (190) monitoring the feeder (72) detects a significant delay between the feeding of envelopes, the feeder (72) is enabled to acquire greater contact with the next envelope by displacing the feed assist device (80) out of its normally biased co-planar position with a feed belt (130) of the feeder (72), resulting in a greater force vector on the next envelope in the direction toward a singulation region (73). A stacker section (38) comprising the discharge conveyance section (28) includes introductory conveying device (302), stacker conveying device (304), and a discharge magazine (300).

  • Patent number: 5065261
Abstract: Method and apparatus are provided for developing a digital timing signal indicative of when a head of a helical scan recorder (30) is positioned over a recorded stripe on magnetic tape (32). The method involves rotating a drum (36) upon which a head is mounted while the magnetic tape (32) is transported past the drum at a speed greater than the nominal speed at which stripes were recorded on the tape. Given the geometry of the system and format of the tape, the head is eventually able to recognize a pattern of digital data. The timing of the recognition of the pattern of digital data is used to determine the precise time, relative to each rotation of the drum (36), that the head ceases to traverse a stripe and the precise time during each rotation of the drum that the head begins to traverse a stripe. The determination of the edges of the digital timing signal is repeated upon every rotation of the drum (36).
