  • Patent number: 6280554
Abstract: The method consists of introducing the dripper units (1) one after the other inside a conduit (2) while the latter is being formed in an extruder (10), then calibrated in a calibrator (13), heat welding the dripper units (1) to the inner wall (3) of the conduit (2) gradually as it progresses downstream of the extruder (10), then cooling the conduit (2) and perforating it opposite each dripper unit (1) to make it communicate with the exterior. According to the invention, the heat welding operation is executed downstream of the calibrator (13) by pinching the dripper unit and the wall of said conduit between first and second opposing surfaces (20, 22b) one of which is driven at the speed of progression of the conduit (2) and the other is arranged on a fixed support member (16) forming a feed guide for the dripper units (1). The dripper units are presented for the pinching operation one after the other contiguously by their ends.

  • Patent number: 6276182
Abstract: The invention relates to a mill for rolling pipes or other bodies such as flat blooms, bars, rods and the like. The rolling mill is formed by an outer load-bearing structure in which holders are accommodated so as to be extractable therefrom; in the holders there are mounted lever arms (18, 19, 20) that are pivotable transversely to the rolling axis along which the pipes or bodies to be rolled advance. The arms support the working rolls (48, 49, 50) at one end and, at the other end, are secured to the respective holder by means of a pin (22, 23, 24). In the rolling mill of the invention, there are advantageously means for rotating the olders about the rolling axis; this enables the rolls (48-50) to be brought back to the ideal working condition when their dimensions are reduced as a result of periodic machining to which they are subjected for maintenance and their working attitude can no longer be reestablished solely by the swinging movement of the lever arms (18-20) that support them.

  • Patent number: 6268061
Abstract: An object constructed of silicon carbide is made up of a plurality of sintered silicon carbide component parts in simple solid forms. This approach allows the production of objects having configurations that are obtainable only with difficulty or not at all by prior art approaches. The component parts are inseparably connected together by means of a silicon carbide film integrally formed on said component parts by chemical vapor deposition. In order to provide substantially improved joint strength and overall structural strength, the silicon carbide film preferably has a crystal structure in which the X-ray diffraction intensity ratio of each crystal face to the (111) face is 0.1 to 10 and/or in which the aspect ratio of crystal grains is 1 to 30.

  • Patent number: 6264661
Abstract: A device for driving a wire pin, and in particular a Kirschner wire, into bone material, comprising a propelling device that acts upon the wire pin which may be inserted into the device from the free front end thereof, said propelling device being driven by periodically repeated impact strokes applied thereupon by an impacting member. The propelling device acts upon the wire pin without any clamping means being involved, which is achieved by the propelling device being designed as a transmitting member against which the free end face of the wire pin may evenly abut and which may transmit the impact strokes of the impacting member as impact pulses into the wire pin through the free end face thereof, with the impact pulses propagating through the wire pin as periodic compression waves so that the wire pin is successively driven into the bone material.

  • Patent number: 6243117
Abstract: A print head having an ink reservoir therein is made by forming, in a one-shot plastic injection molding step, a rigid monolithic frame comprising high melt temperature material having an opening therein extending from a first side to a second side, and first and second bonding surfaces surrounding the opening and facing the first and second sides, respectively. First and second thin flexible films are adhesively secured to the first and second bonding surfaces, respectively. The adhesive material may be a hot melt adhesive or dry adhesive films pre-formed to the shape of the bonding surfaces. By securing the flexible films to the bonding surfaces adhesively, rather than by heat staking, it is not necessary to form the frame of different materials during two separate molding steps.

  • Patent number: 6242325
Abstract: The present invention concerns a method for optimising the etching rate of a polycrystalline layer having a predetermined composition comprising at least two chemical species arranged in the form of grains and grain boundaries, this layer having to be formed on a semiconductor substrate by a deposition process whose parameters have to be determined, and by a etching process with a reactive agent capable of reacting with the preponderant species in the layer. This method defines a structure parameter representing the grain boundary density of the layer, and comprises a step consisting in determining the smallest structure parameter value from among different samples having the predetermined composition, this value being considered as that which optimises the etching rate.

  • Patent number: 6233940
Abstract: In the partial-regeneration cycle gas turbine system wherein part of the air compressed by a compressor 2 is extracted before a combustor 3, mixed with steam, and after the mixed gas is superheated by exhaust heat of a turbine, and the mixed gas is injected into the combustor, high-pressure steam is used as a fluid for driving a first mixer 22 that compresses extracted air, to increase the ratio of extracted air to steam, and then this mixed gas of extracted air and steam is further mixed with low-pressure steam from a low-pressure exhaust heat boiler, in a second mixer, and the mixture of gas is superheated in a superheater 6 by exhaust heat of the turbine, and injected into the combustor. Thus, the pressure of the driving steam can be raised, an exergy loss in an exhaust heat recovery portion can be reduced, and the efficiency of power generation can be increased without reducing the flow of generated steam.
