  • Patent number: 5342129
Abstract: A method of forming a bearing assembly is set forth. A PCD disk typically of circular construction is joined to a cylindrical plug formed of support metal. The plug is registered with respect to an internal shoulder in a passage formed in a ring for the bearing assembly. Multiple PCD disks are installed in the same fashion. In assembly, the disk is attached to the cylinder, the cylinder is wrapped in brazed material, then the cylinder with the brazed material wrapping is registered on an internal shoulder in a drilled passage in the bearing assembly. A brazing temperature which is too low to damage the material is applied to complete joinder. Then, multiple disk faces supported by individual disk in a circle around the bearing assembly can be lapped to assure that they are brought to a common height with respect to a reference plane.

  • Patent number: 5311897
Abstract: A rotary control valve is provided with a variable area orifice in the control element that communicates with a bypass channel, which contains noise silencing means, when the valve is in the less than full-open position. This arrangement minimizes cavitation and noise when the valve is not in the full-open position while providing maximum flow with minimum friction and pressure drop when the valve is in the full-open position. The removable bypass channel configured with a single variable orifice in the control element allows for in-line maintenance of, or modification to, either the noise silencing means in the removable bypass channel or the valve body itself through top entry to the valve. The cross-sectional void area of the upstream and downstream ports as a means of further reducing noise and controlling velocities. The silencing means located within the bypass channel can be a multiplicity of balls or other such means that can be placed within the bypass channel.

  • Patent number: 5307412
Abstract: In a random coding cipher system and method, a sender and receiver pair share a long string of random digits, the masking tape. To encrypt a plaintext message, the sender generates a random integer (with a random number generator, RNG) or a pseudo-random integer (using a pseudo-random number generator, PRNG). This is the initializing integer. The sender then selects an integer formed from a subset of the digits of the initializing integer. This is the starting integer for the message. The starting integer determines a starting, or indexing, position in the masking tape for extraction of a sequence of blocks of digits, of common length, to be put in one-to-one correspondence with the characters of the plaintext alphabet used for communication. The integer blocks comprise the numerical synonyms for the plaintext alphabet characters.
