  • Patent number: 4042919
Abstract: A hand-held illuminated sign has a one piece frame comprising a perimetral wall and perimetral flanges extending inwardly from the wall edges. Translucent sign panels are fastened to the flanges. An elongate lighting member has a bulbous housing at one end that threadedly receives an annular cap. The frame wall has a portion defining an opening for tightly receiving the housing. The cap is threaded on the housing and tightly against the wall portion to hold the frame and lighting member in unified engagement. A strobe light, in combination with the sign illuminating light, is secured to the wall to emit intermittent, high intensity light energy to signal the presence of the sign bearer from distances greater than those at which the sign illumination is perceivable.

  • Patent number: 4039790
Abstract: An inertia mass is supported in a housing for movement along a given path. Two pair of spring blades are cantilever-mounted in the housing. Movement of the mass in one direction closes the first pair of blades and movement in a second direction closes the second pair of blades. Adjustment members are mounted in the housing and bear against one of the blades in each pair to adjust the switching sensitivity. The blades and a warning member, such as an electric light, are mounted in the base of a channel shaped member which snaps into an outer housing shell. A transparent cap is mounted on the housing shell making visible the warning light. Housing flanges are convexly formed and have a plurality of parallel ribs which may be adapted to a large variety of supporting flanges. In one embodiment, the mass is slidable on an elongate rod. Also, the mass may be suspended on two of the spring blades.

  • Patent number: 4033863
Abstract: Mineral separating apparatus comprises a hydraulic classifier provided with an exterior wall, an open bottom sorting column within said exterior wall, and means for introducing a swirl of hydraulic medium in the sorting column. The exterior wall provides a quiescent zone between the bottom of the sorting column and further has a spigot connected to the quiescent zone for discharge of refuse. A launder section is disposed above said exterior wall and sorting column and is in communication therewith. First and second weirs in said launder section are located on opposite sides, respectively, of said exterior wall. The first weir is higher than the second weir to provide a hydraulic flow gradient therebetween.

  • Patent number: 4027984
Abstract: A shampoo brush having an elongate handle affixed to a housing having on one surface thereof a circumferential track for supporting a plurality of massaging tips in spaced relation and surrounded by cleansing and grooming bristles. Located in the housing centrally of the circumferential track is a container for a cleansing agent. A pair of spring urged plungers are mounted in corresponding cylinders in the chamber, each cylinder having two one-way valves so that on movement of the plungers against the spring force, one valve will open forcing cleansing agent from discharge orifices toward the surface to be cleansed, and on plunger movement in the opposite direction, the other valve in each cylinder will open filling the cylinder with the cleansing agent to be discharged on the next plunger movement. An annular enclosed passage is formed in the housing adjacent and within the circumferential track, said passage having a plurality of apertures for dispersing dilutant and rinsing fluid from the apertures.

  • Patent number: 4028629
Abstract: A frequency band pass circuit having an amplifier that has an amplifying state and may be selectively deenergized to a non-amplifying state. A reverse bias is placed on the amplifier when in the deenergized state to provide substantially the same band pass characteristics of the circuit in the non-amplifying state as in the amplifying state and to reduce the insertion loss impedance through the amplifier in the non-amplifying state.

  • Patent number: 4028502
Abstract: Apparatus for providing auditory and tactile recognition of a light signal associated with a line-selector pushbutton of a multi-line telephone instrument. A photocell is provided for sensing the light signal. An oscillator generates a sine wave voltage which is amplified and applied to excite a piezoelectric crystal into vibration in response to activation of the photocell. An auxiliary pushbutton is disposed in alignment with the line selector pushbutton so that manual depression of the auxiliary pushbutton actuates the line selector pushbutton. Vibration of the crystal in response to the light signal acts upon the auxiliary pushbutton to impart the vibration thereto so that the presence of a light signal is sensed by vibration of the auxiliary pushbutton.

  • Patent number: 4025855
Abstract: A voltage variable filter circuit useful, for example, in a radio frequency transmitting device and having a center frequency which is changeable with changes in an applied voltage employs one or more voltage variable reactive elements in the filter in conjunction with circuitry for changing the direct current voltage across such reactive elements to change the reactance thereof and therefore also change the center frequency of the filter. To extend the range of filter variation, additional reactance may be selectively introduced into the filter circuit. In the environment of a multi-channel radio frequency transmitting device, a selector switch simultaneously selects one radio frequency channel for transmission and a unique voltage source for application to the voltage variable reactance so that the filter is appropriately tuned for the selected channel.

  • Patent number: 4019362
Abstract: A machine for attaching terminals to electrical conductors is disclosed wherein the bed and ram of an applicator are relatively movable together and apart and each carries a cooperating one of a pair of crimping dies to crimp a terminal onto a conductor when the ram and bed are moved together. A terminal feeding device supplies terminals to be crimped by the dies seriatim and in synchronism with relative movement between the ram and bed and a unidirectional coupling such as a chain connects the terminal feeding device to the ram so that the feeding device is actuated to supply a terminal when the ram retracts from the bed. A spring biasing device opposes operation of the unidirectional coupling to restore the feeding device for subsequent actuation. The cooperating dies and terminal feeding device are independently removably attached to the machine allowing independent replacement to accommodate specific conductor-terminal combinations.

  • Patent number: 4015333
Abstract: Method and apparatus for providing an orthodontic band shaped to an individual tooth is disclosed wherein a tooth replica is encircled by the band and optionally an annular conducting member surrounds the band. The band is shaped to the tooth by rapidly changing a magnetic field within the band and annular member to induce a current flow which cooperates with the magnetic field to force the band radially inwardly into close conformity with the replica. The replica and annular member are then separated from the band and the band is applied to the original tooth.

  • Patent number: 4014096
Abstract: An idealized set of occluded models, both maxillae and mandible, containing castings of the patient's teeth is made with slotted brackets affixed thereto. The slots are oriented conjointly to define a single plane and a predetermined arch curvature which corresponds to the idealized dental arch. These brackets are placed on the patient's teeth in the same position as on the model, have affixed thereto during treatment one or more arch wires of prefabricated shape such that upon completion of the treatment the bracket slots will define a single plane and the aforesaid predetermined arch curvature which corresponds to the shape of the idealized dental arch. Once this slot pattern is achieved, the clinician knows that the treatment is completed.

  • Patent number: 4007945
Abstract: A hitch for coupling a towing and a towed vehicle is disclosed having a swing-out and pivot feature which allows the vehicle to be approximately positioned for coupling whereupon a gravity operated latch may be raised, a slide portion of the hitch extended from the frame portion thereof and pivoted in a horizontal plane to perfect the alignment of the vehicle coupling mechanism. When the towing vehicle is subsequently moved toward the towed vehicle, the latch drops back into a position where it engages both the slide and frame portions to transmit the towing forces therebetween. The slide itself may comprise first and second members relatively movable between rigid stop positions and including means for cushioning end thrust shocks having a resilient member which mechanically engages the two slide members urging them toward a relative position intermediate the rigid stop positions.
