  • Patent number: 6652042
Abstract: A locking system for trailer air brakes of the type having a supply air line with a gladhand. The locking system comprises a valve connected to the supply air line. The valve is actuatable between an open position, wherein the valve enables air conveyed in the supply air line to disengage the air brakes from the actuated position, and an exhaust position, wherein the valve exhaust air through an exhaust port thereof from the supply air line such that the air brakes remain in the actuated position. A locking device has a portion being automatically displaceable to a locking position when the valve is actuated to the exhaust position so as to lock the valve in the exhaust position, and being displaceable to a disarmed position by manual disarming means for unlocking the locking device and displace the valve to the open position.

  • Patent number: 6593907
Abstract: A distal mechanism for providing three degrees of freedom for a rotating handle. Three stages provide a serial mechanical linkage between a handle and a platform, which may itself be moveable in three degrees of freedom. Each stage has an axis of rotation, and the three axes intersect. The first stage is mounted to the platform in such a way as to provide rotation about the first stage axis. The first stage carries the second, allowing the second stage to rotate about its axis. The second stage carries the third stage, allowing the third stage to rotate about its axis. The third stage is fixed to the handle, and the third stage axis passes along the length of the handle. Each stage has a sensor to measure its rotation, and a tendon means of transferring torque from a remote motor to torque about the rotation axis of the respective stage. The sensors have two limited angle ranges of measurement, about 110 degrees wide and on opposite sides of the rotation.

  • Patent number: 6575727
Abstract: An apparatus and method for roughing surfaces and edges of concrete casted blocks, comprising a block support surface having a plurality of surface sections. A first of the surface sections has a rear end thereof above an adjacent front end of a second of the surface sections to create a ledge for projecting a leading edge portion of concrete blocks conveyed over the first surface section. A first roughing device has a plurality of impacting elements thereon for roughing concrete blocks. The first roughing device is disposed generally above the rear end of the first surface section for abrading a projecting leading edge portion of each concrete block as they are conveyed over the rear end. A conveyor displaces concrete blocks over the first and second surface sections, the blocks being tilted when reaching a predetermined position over the ledge to avoid being abraded by the roughing device.

  • Patent number: 6561786
Abstract: An apparatus and method for roughing surfaces of concrete casted blocks are provided. A horizontally disposed surface roughing device, having impacting elements secured thereto, is driven to impact on blocks supported thereunder on a support table. The support table has a flat support upper surface. Block tilt support pins project from the upper surface at predetermined locations for supporting some of the blocks tilted at a predetermined angle. The block tilt support pins are displaceable from a retracted position below the upper surface to a projecting block tilting position above the upper surface. A displacement mechanism imparts translationary displacement between the impacting elements and the support table to abrade the blocks.

  • Patent number: 6514889
Abstract: A non-woven synthetic sheet material for use in sound insulation and/or thermal insulation is described. The sheet material is a felt or mat of substantially uniform synthetic fiber thickness and defines opposed flat surfaces. The sheet material is needle-punched from at least one of the opposed flat surfaces thereof to cause the synthetic fibers to intertwine to form a pliable sound and/or thermal insulating sheet. The insulating sheet has a density in the range of from about 100 to 1500 g/m2 and a homogeneous integrity resistant to fragmentation. Preferably a polymeric film is interconnected to a surface of the synthetic fiber sheet by a further needle punch step the polymeric film is preferably a metalized polyethylene film. The material has a multitude of uses in the construction industry. The felt may also be provided in strip form for use in the framing of wooden structures to sound insulate interconnected parts.

  • Patent number: 6502412
Abstract: A refrigeration system having a main refrigeration circuit having a condensing stage, wherein a first refrigerant in a high pressure gas state is condensed at least partially to a liquid state. The condensing stage has a pair of stand-alone condensing stage closed loops in heat exchange relation with the main refrigeration circuit. The stand-alone condensing stage closed loops are parallel one to another and each comprise a second refrigerant circulating between at least a heat absorption stage, wherein the second refrigerant absorbs heat from the first refrigerant in the main refrigeration circuit so as to condense the first refrigerant to the liquid state, and a heat release stage, wherein the second refrigerant releases the absorbed heat. The condensing stage has modulating valves for selectively and quantitatively modulating the temperature of said first refrigerant and compressor head pressure.

  • Patent number: 6494014
Abstract: A framing template for use in the framing of a building structure. The template has a plurality of groups of printed measuring indicia, each measuring indicia comprising a centering mark. The centering marks for each group have a predetermined spacing therebetween. The centering marks of each group may include numbers, colors or shaped symbols indicative of a repetitive measured distance from a zero reference point of the template. The centering marks also include indicia indicating the total distance the centering mark is from the zero reference point. The numbers are readable regardless if the template is secured on a horizontal or a vertical surface. In another broad aspect, the present invention contemplates permanently affixing the template, such as with printing, on building materials requiring measurements for integrating into the building structure.

  • Patent number: 6449967
Abstract: A high-speed evaporator defrost system is described. It comprises a defrost conduit circuit having valves for directing hot high pressure refrigerant gas from a discharge line of a compressor and through a refrigeration coil of an evaporator of a refrigeration system during a defrost cycle thereof, and back to a suction header of the compressor through a reservoir of the refrigeration system to remove any liquid refrigerant contained in the refrigerant gas prior to returning to the suction header. The reservoir has an internal pressure which is generally at the same pressure as that of a suction header of the compressor thereby creating a pressure differential across the refrigeration coil sufficient to accelerate the hot high pressure refrigerant gas in the discharge line through the refrigeration coil of the evaporator to quickly defrost the refrigeration coil. The reservoir is repressurized after the defrost cycle for using the reservoir in a refrigeration cycle.
