  • Patent number: 5754022
Abstract: An optical pickup is provided with a limiting wall spaced a predetermined distance apart from a screw shaft to limit the separation of an interlocking projection away from the screw shaft, so that the interlocking projection cannot be disengaged from the helical groove of the screw shaft and, consequently, the screw shaft becomes unable to rotate. This state in which the screw shaft is unable to be rotated, i.e., a state where the optical pickup has bee moved to its inner limit position, can be detected through the detection of a change in the coil current of a stepping motor by a coil current measuring means or through the detection of the increase of voltage induced by the rotation of the magnet of the stepping motor to a predetermined level on the basis of the measured coil current measured by the current measuring means.

  • Patent number: 5751878
Abstract: A light-emitting module has a laser diode (LD) held on an LD holder, and a lens contained in a lens barrel held on a lens holder. The LD holder and the lens holder are combined so that the optical axis of a laser beam emitted by the laser diode is aligned with the optical axis of the lens. The lens holder is provided in its outlet portion with an aperture to adjust the fiber-side NA of the lens to 0.08 or below. Thus, the laser beam can be focused on an inlet end surface of an optical fiber in a spot of a relatively great diameter.

  • Patent number: 5751522
Abstract: A combined-type thin film magnetic head in which a reproducing head portion including a magnetoresistive device and an inductive magnetic head are laminated. A coil support portion made of the same plated layer that forms an upper gap layer of the reproducing head portion having the magnetoresistive device and a lower core portion separated from the magnetic material layer by a gap .delta. are formed on the surface of the upper gap layer. The coil support portion and the lower core portion have areas that enable a coil layer to be formed so that the coil layer is enabled to be formed on a region having no step. An upper core layer is formed on the lower core portion in such a manner that the coil layer is held therebetween. A magnetic gap is formed between the two core layers. Since the magnetic passage of the lower core portion has a small cross sectional area, the inductance of the magnetic circuit can be lowered.

  • Patent number: 5748404
Abstract: A magnetic recording/reproducing device including a top cover having a plurality of leg portions 1e with cutouts that project from each side face of the top cover such that the location of a leg portion at one side face does not correspond to the location of a leg portion at the other side face; and a bottom cover having a plurality of retaining portions 2e in correspondence with the leg portions 1e at each side face of the lower cover formed by bending portions of the side faces. The top cover and the bottom cover are integrally engaged together by fitting the retaining portions into the cutouts of their corresponding leg portions. A plurality of top covers are successively press-cut from a metal plate such that a leg portion of a particular top cover is positioned between the leg portions of another top cover that is adjacent to the particular top cover, thus reducing the amount of scraps produced from the metal plate.

  • Patent number: 5738532
Abstract: A pin contact of a connector and a method of fabricating the pin contact which enables a substantial decrease of manufacturing cost, and smooth installation of the pin connector without a change in the pitch of arrangement at the time of press-fitting into a pin housing. A flat metal sheet undergoes blanking and pressing to form a narrow piece including a strip portion of decreased area of a fracture. Then an approximately L-shaped connecting portion is bent at right angles to raise the narrow piece sideways. Thereafter the strip portion of the narrow piece is pressed along the direction of rising, to thereby form an approximately cylindrical contact section. A raised piece at the rear of the contact section is provided with a locking section which faces approximately at right angles with the direction of arrangement.
