Abstract: Perhaloalkylvinylcyclopropanecarboxylates having the general formula ##STR1## are disclosed wherein one of Y and Z is a perhaloalkyl group and the other is hydrogen, halogen, or lower alkyl. Compounds in which R is hydroxy, halogen or lower alkoxy are intermediates for preparation of insecticidal esters in which R is an optionally substituted benzylfurylmethoxy group. The insecticidal efficacy and preparation of the compounds and intermediates therefor are described and exemplified.
Abstract: Arylthiovinylcyclopropanecarboxylates having the general formula ##STR1## are disclosed. The insecticidal efficacy and preparation of the compounds and novel intermediates therefor are also described and exemplified.
Abstract: Novel syntheses of dihalovinylcyclopropanecarboxylates, including potent insecticides, are described. The processes begin with the reaction between an alkenol and an orthoester to produce a .gamma.-unsaturated carboxylate, followed by the catalyzed addition of a carbon tetrahalide to the double bond and dehydrohalogenation to produce a cyclopropane derivative.
Abstract: A new class of herbicidal compounds consisting of 1,3-dioxanes carrying substituents other than hydrogen in the 2-, 4-, 5-, and 6-positions of the dioxane ring exhibits preemergence and postemergence herbicidal activity, controlling effectively the growth of selected grassy species. The synthesis of members of this class is described in detail, and the utility of representative compounds in exemplified.
Abstract: Selected mono-5-substituted-3-chloro-4H-1,2,6-thiadiazin-4-ones having the general formula ##STR1## are described which are useful for control of fungal disease in plants.

Abstract: Emissions of halomethyl ethers are controlled by contacting a gaseous effluent stream containing said ethers with a scrubbing solution comprising an alkali metal hydroxide, a lower dialkanolamine and a lower alkylene glycol.
Abstract: Alkylisocyanates are prepared by reacting a phenol or substituted phenol and phosgene in a halogenated hydrocarbon solvent with aqueous alkali metal hydroxide to produce a corresponding chloroformate, reacting the resulting chloroformate solution with aqueous alkylamine to give a corresponding N-alkylcarbamate which, after solvent is stripped, is then pyrolyzed to yield the alkyl isocyanate. Solvent and the starting phenol may be recovered and recycled to the process.
Abstract: The new herbicide, 2-cyclohexyl-4-iodo-1,5-dimethyl-1,2-dihydro-3H-pyrazol-3-one, is described and its preparation and use to control undesired plant growth are exemplified.
