Abstract: A method for controlling nematodes in agricultural crops utilizing selected 3-substituted-4-phenyl-1,2,5-thiadiazoles, nematicidal compositions thereof, and novel compounds useful therefor are disclosed and exemplified.
Abstract: Novel allylthiodiphenyl ether compounds exhibit excellent herbicidal activity against broadleaf weeds while leaving crops such as corn, wheat, rice and soybeans unaffected. Preparation and herbicidal activity of the compounds is disclosed and exemplified.
Abstract: O-ethyl S,S-dialkyl phosphorodithioates of the formula: ##STR1## in which one of R and R.sup.1 is an s-butyl group and the other of R and R.sup.1 is s-butyl or t-butyl, exhibiting high levels of activity against soil borne insects and nematodes and low phytotoxicity, are described and exemplified.
Abstract: An O-ethyl S,S-dialkyl phosphorodithioate of the formula: ##STR1## in which one of R and R.sup.1 is an s-butyl group and the other of R and R.sup.1 is n-propyl, exhibiting high levels of activity against soil borne insects and nematodes and low phytotoxicity, is described and exemplified.
Abstract: Disclosed are novel compounds of the formula ##STR1## in which R.sup.1 is hydrogen or methyl; R.sup.2 is phenyl or phenylmethyl either of which is optionally ring substituted with lower alkyl or halogen; R is hydrogen, a tetramethylcyclopropanecarbonyl group, a 1-(substitutedphenyl)-2-methylpropylcarbonyl group, a 1-(4-ethoxyphenyl)-2,2-dichlorocyclopropanecarbonyl group, or a substitutedvinylcyclopropanecarbonyl group; and, with respect to the indanyl substituents, the 1,3-trans isomer is present in an isomeric excess over the corresponding 1,3-cis isomer. The compounds wherein R is other than hydrogen are insecticides, and the compounds wherein R is hydrogen are insecticide intermediates.
Abstract: 2,2'-Bridged[1,1'-biphenyl]-3-ylmethyl carboxylates and insecticidal compositions containing these esters are useful for the control of a broad range of insects and acarids. Certain 3-(2,2-dihaloethenyl)-2,2-dimethylcyclopropyl and 3-(2-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoro-1-propenyl)-2,2-dimethylcyclopropyl esters are particularly effective against acarids.
Abstract: A cyclopropanecarboxylic acid of the formula ##STR1## is prepared by the reaction of a compound of the formula ##STR2## with an alkali metal hydroxide or alkaline earth metal hydroxide in an ether type solvent. R.sup.1, R.sup.2, and R.sup.4 each independently is hydrogen or a hydrocarbon residue, R.sup.3 is hydrogen or lower alkyl, X is halogen, and A is --CH.sub.2 --CX, 3 or --CH.dbd.CX.sub.2.
Abstract: Compounds of the formula ##STR1## in which R.sup.1 is tertiary butyl, R.sub.a and R.sub.b are each bromine or chlorine, and R.sub.c and R.sub.d are each hydrogen, bromine or chlorine, having superior residual activity against foliar feeding insects and acarids are disclosed and exemplified.
Abstract: A novel N,N,N-trimethyl-[1,1'-biphenyl]-2-methanaminium compound is subjected to a rearrangement reaction to give a 3-dimethylaminomethyl-2-methyl-[1,1'-biphenyl] compound which is then converted to the corresponding 3-halomethyl-2-methyl-[1,1'-biphenyl] compound. The halomethyl compound is an intermediate for pyrethroid and related insecticides having the alcohol moiety derived from a 2-methyl-[1,1'-biphenyl]-3-methanol.
