Abstract: A metamaterial includes a dielectric substrate and an array of discrete resonators at the dielectric substrate, wherein each of the discrete resonators has a shape that is independently selected from: an F-type shape; an E-type shape; or a y-type shape. A parameter of a chiral metamaterial is determined and a chiral metamaterial having such a parameter is prepared by the use of a model of the chiral metamaterial. The metamaterial model includes an array of discrete resonators. In one embodiment, each of the discrete resonators has a shape that is independently selected from the group consisting of: an F-type shape; an E-type shape; and a y-type shape. To the metamaterial model, electromagnetic (EM) radiation, preferably plane-polarized EM radiation in a visible, ultraviolet or near-infrared region, having at least one wavelength that is larger than the largest dimension of at least resonator of the metamaterial model, is applied.

Abstract: In typical two-way trading systems, bidders cannot trade directly with other bidders, and sellers cannot trade directly with other sellers, resulting in possible missed trading opportunities. Methods, systems, devices, and networks for enabling two-way trading systems to perform multi-party exchanges are disclosed. Example embodiments allow multiple bidders (buyers), multiple sellers, or a seller and bidder of separate marketplaces to trade among themselves. Embodiments may discover, for bidders and sellers, opportunities to trade with other sellers or bidders, or both, without a time-consuming and limited process of searching and discovering relevant opportunities. Bidders and sellers may not find such opportunities on their own in typical two-way trading systems. The embodiments may be implemented as stand-alone systems or as add-ons that may be used to augment or enhance existing two-way trading systems.
Abstract: A helium management control system for controlling the helium refrigerant supply from a common manifold supplies a plurality of cryogenic refrigerators with an appropriate helium supply. The system employs a plurality of sensors to monitor and regulate the overall refrigerant supply to deliver an appropriate refrigerant supply to each of the cryogenic refrigerators depending on the computed aggregate cooling demand of all of the cryogenic refrigerators. An appropriate supply of helium is distributed to each cryopump by sensing excess and sparse helium refrigerant and redistributing refrigerant accordingly. If the total refrigeration supply exceeds the total refrigerant demand, or consumption, excess refrigerant is directed to cryogenic refrigerators which can utilize the excess helium to complete a current cooling function more quickly.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for handover of a MS of a plurality of MSs to a BS of a plurality of BSs in a wireless communication network. The method includes identifying a target BS from the plurality of BSs for handover of the MS served by a serving BS. A difference between a quality of a signal received by the MS from the target BS and the quality of the signal received by the MS from the serving BS is greater than or equal to a first predefined threshold. The method further includes performing a handover for the MS from the serving BS to the target BS when the quality of the signal received by the MS from the serving BS is greater than or equal to a second predefined threshold.
Abstract: Methods (100), systems (200), computer program products, and signal bearing mediums for streaming an eXtensible Markup Language (XML)-type document (210) over a communication network (240) are described. A sequence of commands are received and synchronously converted (112) into XML-type fragments (230) for assembling and streaming a single XML-type document for a mobile device (220) in the communication network (240). The size of the XML-type document (210) exceeds the size limit imposed by the available memory on the device but less than the size limit imposed by the transport layer of a communication network (240). A DTD of the XML-type document (210) can be broken up into logically independent elements. The XML-type fragments (230) are assembled (114) in a buffer that is constrained to be smaller in size than the size constraint of the transport layer of the communication network (240).

Abstract: Method for cooling flat plastic products, in which plasticized plastic compound is fed to a calender via a slot nozzle by means of an extruder and is rolled and calibrated to the desired shape in this calender between at least two smoothing rolls, after which the film or sheet produced in this way is fed to a chill section comprising a plurality of adjustable rolls and passes through this section until it is sufficiently cool and dimensionally stable, at least both the gap width between the rolls and the speed of the rolls being controllable by open- and/or closed-loop control. The degree of wrap of the flat plastic product around the respective roll is varied by adjusting the rolls in the chill section into a mutually offset arrangement, hence increasing or minimizing the cooling capacity.
Abstract: An equalizer provided in a digital transmitter compensates for attenuation in a signal channel to a digital receiver. The equalizer generates signal levels as a logical function of bit history to emphasize transition signal levels relative to repeated signal levels. The preferred equalizer includes an FIR transition filter using a look-up table. Parallel circuits including FIR filters and digital-to-analog converters provide a high speed equalizer with lower speed circuitry. The equalizer is particularly suited to in-cabinet and local area network transmissions where feedback circuitry facilitates adaptive training of the equalizer.
Abstract: The present invention relates to an inductive proximity sensor that includes an oscillator having first and second inductor-capacitor circuits arranged such that an inductance of one of the inductor-capacitor circuits has substantially greater sensitivity to an external target than an inductance of the other inductor-capacitor circuit. The sensor also includes an alternating current drive to each of the inductor-capacitor circuits that is in-phase and depends on differences in voltage across the inductor-capacitor circuits. The sensor may be coupled to a calibration device that applies power and triggers a calibration routine within the sensor. In response to the trigger signal, a calibration processor within the sensor executes the calibration routine and adjusts the inductor-capacitor circuits and provides an indication of successful calibration.
Abstract: A retrofit kit for a printing press adjustment hydraulic actuator. The hydraulic actuator is maintained to benefit from its mounting position and alignment, but the hydraulic fluid is removed. A hydraulic actuator shaft is attached to a mechanism that converts the rotary motion of an electric motor to linear motion. The electric motor provides faster and more accurate control of the hydraulic actuator shaft than the hydraulic fluid, providing for faster adjustment of the printing press.
Abstract: In one embodiment, an apparatus for manufacturing an internal wound stator includes a winding arbor, a stator loader, a first movable member, and a second rotating member. The stator includes an interior opening and multiple axial slots. The interior opening has a diameter larger than an exterior dimension of the winding arbor. The winding arbor includes an interior and a port being at a central portion of the member. The stator loader supports the stator. The first movable member moves port of the winding arbor through the interior opening of the stator along a first axial slot of the axial slots. The second rotating member rotates the stator and the port of the winding arbor with respect to one another to align the port with a second axial slot of the axial slots. The first movable member moves the port through the second axial slot of the stator.
Abstract: A technique for correcting charge transfer inefficiencies in a Charge Coupled Device (CCD). The basic approach is to estimate the charge entering at a given stage in a CCD pipeline, and to then determine an estimate of the error introduced by the accumulated leftover charge that will be present at a second point, farther down the pipeline. The error is then corrected by injecting a correcting charge at a third point, farther still down the CCD pipeline. The invention is used, in one embodiment, to correct the output of a charge to digital converter, although principals of the invention may be used for other types of circuits.
