  • Patent number: 7746655
Abstract: A grid array socket pin field is protected during manufacture of an information handling system with a dust cap having first and second attachment devices. The first attachment device secures the cap to the socket during assembly of the socket in the computer. The second attachment device secures the cap to a load mechanism assemble proximate the socket. Engagement of the second attachment device to the cap automatically releases the cap from the socket to allow removal of the cap from the socket by actuation of the load mechanism to an open position. The second attachment device secures the cap to the load mechanism until a processor is placed in the socket.

  • Patent number: 7743271
Abstract: A method, system and program are provided for determining if a system clock has been reset backwards in time by using a randomly generated set of bytes (such as a randomly generated or type 4 UUID) as a time epoch. By generating a time epoch at boot time and whenever the system clock is set back in time, an application can compare the time epoch value at an earlier point in its execution, with the current time epoch. If the time epoch values are different, the application will know that the system clock has been set back in time.

  • Patent number: 7739080
Abstract: A model consolidation process combines multiple configuration models into a single unified configuration model that contains the union of the allowable combinations (i.e. combinations that are buildable) from each of the original models. An aspect of at least one embodiment of the model consolidation process is that it allows models to be combined in such a way that any incompatibilities or contradictions between models are detected and automatically resolved where possible. If an incompatibility is detected that cannot be automatically resolved, then the configuration models should not be combined. Instead if this incompatibility case occurs, at least one embodiment of the model consolidation process produces a description of the problem encountered and report the problem along with the necessary information required for a human to resolve it.

  • Patent number: 7733754
Abstract: An optical disc drive reads identification information from an optical disc inserted in the drive in a label orientation having a label side presented to the optical disc drive laser by reading codes marked at the opposing storage side in a transparent region or marked on the label side oriented to be read from the storage side. The identification information is used to determine the ability and authority of the optical disc to have a label written on the label surface. For instance, label authorization is determined from authorization information embedded on the storage side of the optical disc when the optical disc is in a storage orientation and the label authorization is saved on an associated information handling system with reference to the identification information to allow authorization to be determined when the optical disc is in the label orientation.

  • Patent number: 7730154
Abstract: A method, a system, an apparatus, and a computer program product are presented for fragment caching. After a message is received at a computing device that contains a cache management unit, a fragment in the message body of the message is cached. Subsequent requests for the fragment at the cache management unit result in a cache hit. The cache management unit operates equivalently in support of fragment caching operations without regard to whether the computing device acts as a client, a server, or a hub located throughout the network; in other words, the fragment caching technique is uniform throughout a network. Cache ID rules accompany a fragment from an origin server; the cache ID rules describe a method for forming a unique cache ID for the fragment such that dynamic content can be cached away from an origin server.

  • Patent number: 7725478
Abstract: A system and method are disclosed for Common Information Model (CIM) management clients to predetermine a data provider's support for localization, select an available locale implementation, and receive the provider's indications and responses in the selected locale. A registered locale class is added to the CIM schema for instantiating predetermined locales within an Interop namespace and a referenced locale class is added to associate registered locale class instances to a registered profile class. Instances of the registered locale class are created by a CIM data provider in the Interop namespace for each supported locale. Element Conforms To Profile (ECTP) association classes are then implemented to create associations between registered locale classes with top level scoping classes and their corresponding locale namespace. The top level scoping class comprising its associated locale namespace is then established as the locale implemented by the data provider.

  • Patent number: 7719287
Abstract: A port width module operating in association with SAS controllers determines the operational state of communication across an SAS cable by comparing the number of links at opposing controllers that are capable of supporting communication with the number of links in DWord synchronization. For example, an information handling system capable of communication of four links at an SAS connector communicates in a normal state across two links where the opposing device is a switch that supports only two links at an SAS connector. An LED at the information handling system indicates normal operations with two links in DWord synchronization by receiving the port width of the opposing device, retrieving its own port width, and comparing the port widths with the number of links in DWord synchronization.

  • Patent number: 7719293
Abstract: Load current of a circuit is determined across a component of the circuit by calibrating the resistance of the component with a reference current having a distinguishable characteristic. For example, a reference current with swept frequency modulation is applied to the component so that the resistance of the component is determined from voltage drop associated with the reference current across the component. The component resistance is applied to a voltage drop associated with the load current to determine the load current. For example, a filter matched to the reference current frequency modulation isolates the reference current voltage drop so that a ratio of the reference current voltage drop and the load current voltage drop provides a ratio of the reference current and load current.

  • Patent number: 7719246
Abstract: A power control system includes a switching power converter and a power factor correction (PFC) and output voltage controller. The switching power converter utilizes a nonlinear energy transfer process to provide power to a load. The PFC and output voltage controller generates a control signal to control power factor correction and voltage regulation of the switching power converter. The PFC and output voltage controller includes a nonlinear delta-sigma modulator that models the nonlinear energy transfer process of the switching power converter. The nonlinear delta-sigma modulator generates an output signal used to determine the control signal. By using the nonlinear delta-sigma modulator in a control signal generation process, the PFC and output voltage controller generates a spectrally noise shaped control signal. In at least one embodiment, noise shaping of the control signal improves power factor correction and output voltage regulation relative to conventional systems.

  • Patent number: 7720720
Abstract: A data processing system generates recommendations for on-line shopping by scoring recommendations matching the customer's cart contents product page, configuration page, email and/or history using predetermined scoring criteria, such as item availability, item price, relevance of the item to the customer, item clarity, item exposure, total purchase amount in the cart, margin, recommendation confidence and lift, shopper profile matches, seasonality, customer history, time dependency, product marketing emphasis, substitutability, item popularity and/or product attributes associated with the recommended item. The scored recommendations may be ranked and/or filtered to prioritize the recommendations so that the best recommendation is selected for presentation to the customer. In addition, one or more scoring criteria or product attributes for the recommended item may be used to select a specific selling point/message text for inclusion with the selected recommendation.

  • Patent number: 7720553
Abstract: A system and method is disclosed for the automated real-time collection, extraction, transformation, analysis and presentation of statistical process control (SPC) information. One or more monitored systems or processes generate operational process control information that is stored in its native form. An SPC system iteratively accesses this information, transforms it as required, and performs statistical processing to generate database tables, control charts and other predetermined forms of data output. The statistical processing output is then extracted by an automated SPC data extraction system in real-time. The extracted data is placed in a data wrapper and submitted, likewise in real-time, to one or more statistical analysis systems or models, which process the data to derive new specification limits. The new specification limits are applied to monitored systems and processes resulting in the generation of new operational measurements, which are in turn collected and processed.

  • Patent number: 7715546
Abstract: A system and method for updating contact records automates analysis of contact results for one or more contact devices performing a contact campaign in order to select contact records for skip trace updates to contact information with the updated contact information for real time use by the contact devices. For instance, an update engine analyzes contact records returned by dialers to a distribution module to select contact records to skip trace based on rules, such as where a wrong number code is indicated, or cost analysis, such as where the predicted result of an update has a value greater than the cost of obtaining the update. The distribution model provides the updated contact information for real time use by the dialers of the updated contact numbers.
