  • Patent number: 8065539
Abstract: An AC-to-DC adapter provides power to information handling systems at different power levels based on the power rating of the information handling system. An adapter manager sets a first lower level at an over current protection circuit unless the information handling system sends identification information that indicates the information handling system is rated to accept a second higher power level, such as by sending a low signal pulse through a serial communication line. While the identification information is present and external power is applied to the adapter, the adapter manager sets a second higher level at an over current protection circuit to allow output of a second higher power level.

  • Patent number: 8064220
Abstract: Electrical communication between an information handling system chassis having a non-conductive surface and processing components within the chassis is established through the non-conductive surface with conductive elements extending from a conductive pad. A protruding element extending from a conductive pad engages the conductive elements through the non-conductive surface when the protruding element is coupled to a cavity formed in the chassis. Alternatively, the protruding element extends from the chassis to couple to a cavity in the conductive pad. Processing components have electrical communication with the chassis through the conductive pad.

  • Patent number: 8063619
Abstract: Power is supplied to an information handling system chipset with a single voltage regulator having dual phases. A first phase of the voltage regulator provides power to a low power state power rail in an independent mode to support a low power state, such as a suspend or hibernate state. A second phase of the voltage regulator provides power to a run power state power rail in combination with the first phase by activation of a switch, such as a MOSFET load switch, that connects the low power state power rail and the run power state power rail. Voltage sensed from both power rails is applied to control voltage output so that the run power state power rail is maintained within more precise constraints than the low power state power rail.

  • Patent number: 8060788
Abstract: The present invention relates to signal handling in a host operating system process executing code portions of a single- or multi-threaded application and of the embedded guest operating system. When a signal is sent from the host operating system to the operating system process, the signal handler of the guest operating system will be invoked in a deterministic time, independent of the operating system process executing code portions of the application or of the guest operating system or executing system calls of the host operating system in a masked or non-masked operation.

  • Patent number: 8055916
Abstract: A voltage regulator provides power to an information handling system component under management by a controller, such as a Buck circuit managed by a PID controller according to PID coefficient settings. An update module interfaced with the voltage regulator monitors operating conditions of the voltage regulator to update the coefficients used by the controller. For example, changes in the load applied to the voltage regulator and an inductance associated with the voltage regulator are used to periodically compute updated PID coefficients, which are then used by the controller to control the voltage regulator.

  • Patent number: 8050705
Abstract: An improved method and system for removing operating restrictions associated with a predetermined subscriber identity module (SIM) from a wireless device. A user is allowed to securely log onto a Web site that contains support information on subscription plans, billing, termination, penalties, and device-to-SIM unlocking. After satisfying any outstanding contract terms and payment of termination or device unlock fees, the user initiates a device-to-SIM unlock procedure. A client application on the wireless device securely transfers subscription, system, and SIM information to a device-to-SIM unlock system which uses the information to generate appropriate unlock codes. The unlock codes are then securely transferred to the client application, which processes them to remove operating restrictions associated with the predetermined SIM from the device and allow it to thereafter implement a plurality of SIMs.

  • Patent number: 8051217
Abstract: An apparatus and method is disclosed for providing an extensible information handling system (IHS) bus implemented on predetermined channels of a digital video interface. IHS video signal information is multiplexed with IHS bus information by a host multiplexer for transmission across a digital video connector. The multiplexed IHS video signal and IHS bus information is received by a display multiplexer, where it is demultiplexed. Demultiplexed IHS video signal information is received by a video interface receiver, where it is used to generate an image on a digital display. Demultiplexed IHS bus information is received by a host bus interface transmitter/receiver, where it is used to support peripheral devices attached to the digital display.

  • Patent number: 8051030
Abstract: Task management supported by analytics has enhanced effectiveness through automated population splitting for generating models that predict task associated outcomes. Subpopulations are automatically analyzed for adequate sample size and selectively recombined based on characteristics of the subpopulations, such as to combine homogeneous subpopulations or to optimize a subpopulation characteristic. As an example, outbound calling campaign models are generated for time periods by splitting a sample population into time period subpopulations and combining subpopulation time periods having inadequate sample size so that combined subpopulations have a minimized total time period or greater similarity relative to other subpopulations.

  • Patent number: 8046896
Abstract: An information technology enclosure has a processing subsystem and infrastructure subsystem in separate shipping containers that cooperate to process information. The processing subsystem has increased information processing density by concentrating information handling systems in a first processing shipping container that is supported with infrastructure equipment in a second infrastructure shipping container. In one embodiment, the shipping containers are arranged in a stacked configuration so that cooled air and exhausted air are exchanged through aligned vents formed in the ceiling and floor of stacked shipping containers.

  • Patent number: 8049741
Abstract: An improved system and method for selectively applying LCD Response Time Compensation (LRTC) to areas of an LCD panel containing video motion. Motion vectors contained within macroblocks in a compressed video stream are utilized to qualify whether individual pixels in a video frame are a candidate for LRTC. In various embodiments of the invention, computationally expensive LRTC can be selectively applied, pixel-by-pixel, which can result in portable information system power savings by reducing the number of computational cycles and the amount of graphics controller power overhead.

  • Patent number: 8044863
Abstract: An antenna assembly is formed on a rectangular polyhedron support that has two sections projecting away from opposite sides of an electrically non-conductive substrate. An electrically conductive stripe wraps around the support and comprises a plurality of segments on different surfaces of the support. A conductive patch is located on two surfaces of the support to provide impedance matching between the antenna and a radio frequency circuit. By placing sections of the antenna assembly on both sides of the substrate and wrapping the conductive stripe around those sections, the space required to accommodate the antenna assembly within a housing of a communication device is reduced, as compared to some prior antenna designs.

  • Patent number: 8046187
Abstract: A test system is described for testing a media drive, such as a tape drive. The test system includes a host emulator, a storage library emulator, and a control system. The host emulator communicates with a first interface of the media drive and mimics a host system to the media drive. The storage library emulator communicates with a second interface of the media drive and mimics a storage library system to the media drive. When in operation, one of the host emulator and the storage library emulator transmits a test message to the media drive responsive to an instruction from the control system. Responsive to the test message, one of the emulators receives a test response from the media drive and transmits the test response to the control system. The control system processes the test message and the test response to evaluate the performance of the media drive.

  • Patent number: 8046597
Abstract: Information handling system storage devices are managed to reduce power consumption by consolidating stored information to less than all of plural storage devices and powering down the storage devices that are no longer storing information. If a predetermined buffer of unused capacity is detected at the storage devices, then a powered down storage device is powered up to store additional information. The storage devices are consolidated to maintain desired performance parameters, such as by monitoring I/O performance for information stored on active storage devices.

  • Patent number: 8041537
Abstract: Embodiments of the disclosure provide systems and methods for clock duty cycle measurement. A clock signal and a complement of the clock signal are provided to a charge pump during first and second predetermined timing windows. A charge pump is operable to generate first and second output voltages in response to the clock signal and the complement of the clock signal during the first and second timing windows, respectively. In addition a predetermined positive voltage and a ground voltage are applied to the charge pump during predetermined third and fourth timing windows, respectively. The charge pump is operable to generate third and fourth output voltage signals corresponding to the predetermined positive and ground voltages during the third and fourth timing windows, respectively. The first, second, third and fourth voltages are then used to calculate the duty cycle of the clock.
