  • Patent number: 5135055
Abstract: A ground and airborne system and method for fighting high rise building fires uses a ground based pump such as a mobile pumper vehicle with its inlet connected to a source of fire retardant material such as water. A rotary wing aircraft is provided with another pump, the inlet of which is connected to the outlet of the pumper through a flexible hose. The aircraft carries one or two extendable booms with nozzles affixed to the ends thereof. The booms are connected to the outlet of the airborne pump. The aircraft is manuevered to the floor at which the fire is located. The boom or booms are extended beyond the rotor tips and the ground and airborne pumps are operated to direct water into the floor at which the fire is located to extinguish or contain the fire until a fire crew can arrive at the scene.

  • Patent number: 5129594
Abstract: An avionic tray for supporting an avionic equipment box including a flat bottom section having an opening for communicating with an air plenum chamber and a pair of side rails, of unitary construction with the bottom section, extending upwardly at right angles to and at the lateral edges of the bottom section. A pair of vertically spaced and inwardly projecting back plate support tabs are formed in each side rail, the tabs defining flat surface lying in a plane perpendicular to the bottom section and the side rails. A back plate, having an opening for receiving a connector, is rivited to the support tabs and the bottom section to position the back plate and its associated connector precisely at right angles to the side rails and the bottom section.

  • Patent number: 5121861
Abstract: A boot jack is described which provides a step tread surface on the top thereof having a generally V-shaped opening arranged about a longitudinal axis for receiving the heel of a boot to be removed from one leg of the user. The opening is formed by a pair of downwardly extending surfaces which terminate in opposed boot heel engaging edges. Left and right foot rest areas are defined by the step tread surface for accommodating the heel and ball of the foot of the other leg. The foot rest areas are symmetrically arranged about the longitudinal axis with a line bisecting each area extending at an acute angle to the longitudinal axis. The boot heel engaging edges are positioned below the step tread surface a sufficient distance to require the knee of the other leg to be bent when the boot to be removed is within the boot heel opening so that primarily the larger muscles of the other leg may be used to remove the boot.

  • Patent number: 5101660
Abstract: A dynamometer apparatus and a method for testing two and four wheel drive vehicles under simulated road conditions is described. The apparatus includes a front roll and a rear roll for engaging the front and rear wheels of the vehicle. A power supplying and/or absorbing unit such as an electric motor is coupled to each roll. In addition, a force transducer and speed sensor is coupled to each roll for providing signals representative of (a) the forces imported to or received by the rolls from the vehicle wheels minus the forces attributed to the parasitic losses of the rolls and (b) the speed of the rolls. Elements are also included for providing signals representative of the desired vehicle inertia and the forces attributable to the parasitic losses of the rolls. A system controller in response to the above signals controls the power supplying and/or absorbing units in accordance with: ##EQU1## where: V.sub.d =the desired velocity of the driven and driving rolls;F.sub.

  • Patent number: 5100059
Abstract: An aspiration type chemical sprayer for dispensing small quantities of a liquid based chemical into a stream of carrier fluid is disclosed. The sprayer includes a sprayer head assembly sealingly mounted onto a container holding chemicals such as pesticides or fertilizers. A unitary valve in the sprayer head assembly control carrier fluid flow from a pressurized source of water while simultaneously providing a controlled aspiration rate and full communication of the container interior to atmospheric pressure. The valve additionally includes simultaneous closure of the carrier fluid, aspiration and vent passageways so as to seal the chemical in the container when the sprayer is not being used.

  • Patent number: 5036841
Abstract: A closed circuit breathing apparatus for supplying breathable air to a facepiece to be worn by a user while working in an irrespirable atmosphere is disclosed. The apparatus includes an inhalation and an exhalation section connected to the facepiece. A CO.sub.2 scrubber and a rebreather bag are connected in series between the inhalation and exhalation sections. A motorized fan is disposed in the inhalation section for continuously pumping air from the rebreather bag to the inhalation section. A pressure reducing valve supplies make up air from a tank of pressurized oxygen enriched air to the inhalation section. The fan and pressure reducing valve are arranged to supply sufficient air flow (e.g., 10 to 150 LPM) to the facepiece to maintain a positive face piece pressure under the anticipated normal use of the apparatus. A demand valve supplies additional air from the pressure reducing valve to the inhlation section to maintain a positive pressure at the facepiece during periods of peak demand (e.g.
