  • Patent number: 7689869
Abstract: When data are transferred to a cache from disk drives, through a back end I/F unit, a redundant code verifier of a data path controller compares write-history information (a Destaging Counter (DC) value) embedded in a redundant code of the data with a DC value embedded in a redundant code of a corresponding parity, thereby verifying whether the data are imprecise. In addition, in a case where the data are updated, the redundant code verifier makes a similar verification when old data to be used for creating a parity are read. When the data are not imprecise, a redundant code generator of the data path controller adds to new data and the parity a redundant code into which a new DC value has been embedded. When the data are imprecise, a controller informs a host of an occurrence of a problem through a front end I/F unit.

  • Patent number: 7254401
Abstract: A method and system for determining a location of a user equipment using RTT measurements from a connected node B and RTT measurement of other node Bs which are not connected to the user equipment. The radio network controller of a network measures RTT of a connected node Bs and then measures RTT of non connected node Bs. Based on the RTT measurement, the distances of the user equipment from each node B is determined. Circles having radii equal to the distances of the user equipment from the nodes are used to determine the user equipment location.

  • Patent number: 7237069
Abstract: An arrangement and method for update of configuration cache data in a disk storage subsystem in which a cache memory (110) is updated using two-phase (220, 250) commit technique. This provides the advantage that known changes to the subsystem do not require an invalidate/rebuild style operation on the cache. This is especially important where a change will invalidate the entire cache.

  • Patent number: 7206923
Abstract: A method and apparatus is provided to manage data in computer registers in a program, making more computer registers available to one or more programmers utilizing a name level instruction. The method and apparatus disclosed herein presents a way of reducing the overhead of register management, by introducing a concept of a name level for each of the named architected registers in a processor. The method provides a programmer with a larger register name-space while not increasing the size of the instruction word in the processor instruction-set architecture. It also provides for the facilitation of architectural features which overload the architected register namespace and ease the overhead of register management. This provides for the addition of more computer registers without changing the instruction format of the computer.

  • Patent number: 7203161
Abstract: A method and apparatus for recovery from faults in a loop network (500) is provided. The loop network (500) has a plurality of ports (520, 530, 532, 534) serially connected with means for bypassing the ports (520, 530, 532, 534) from the loop network (500). A control device (522, 524) is provided with bypass control over at least one of the ports (530, 532, 534). A host means (502) sends a command to the control device (522, 524) at regular intervals and the control device (522, 524) has a counter which restarts a time period at the receipt of each command. If the time period expires, the control device (522, 524) activates the means for bypassing all the ports (530, 532, 534) under its control. The loop network (500) may have two loops (516, 518) with at least some of the ports (520, 530, 532, 534) common to both loops (516, 518).

  • Patent number: 7200174
Abstract: A motion estimation method and system for a video coder are disclosed. The system comprises an input for a video image to be coded. It also comprises a hierarchical series of motion estimators of varying complexity, for estimating a motion vector field between the received image and a reference image. The subsequent motion estimator in the series is selected by a control means if a prediction error associated with the motion vector field estimated by the currently selected motion estimator exceeds a predetermined threshold. • Patent number: 7198990
Abstract: A channel 16 of a FinFET 10 has a channel core 24 and a channel envelope 32, each made from a semiconductor material defining a different lattice structure to exploit strained silicon properties. A gate is coupled to the channel envelope through a gate dielectric. Exemplary materials are Si and SixGe1-x, wherein 78<x<92. The channel core 24 has a top surface 26 of width wc and an upstanding surface 28, 30 of height hc, preferably oriented 90° to one another. The channel envelope 32 is in contact with the top 26 and upstanding surfaces 28, 30 so that the area of interface is increased as compared to contact only along the top surface 26, improving electrical conductivity and gate 18 control over the channel 16. The height hc can be tailored to enable a smaller scale FET 10 within a stabilized SRAM. Various methods of making the channel 16 are disclosed, including a mask and etch method, a handle wafer/carrier wafer method, and a shallow trench method.

  • Patent number: 7188156
Abstract: Disclosed are embodiments of a method, a system and a computer program product for selecting data to be presented in a report form. A selector window is displayed to a user, the selector window displaying periods of time for indicating those periods of time for which data is available. The periods of time are displayed as a stack of temporally aligned time lines that are each partitioned into time periods of different duration, where each partition of a given time line has a spatial extent that differs from the spatial extent of partitions of other time lines, with longer partitions encompassing a plurality of shorter partitions. In response to the user selecting a point on a time line, the method, system and computer program product displays a report of that data.

  • Patent number: 7173961
Abstract: The system includes a transmitter for generating a signal in the time domain and transforming the signal to the frequency domain, wherein the transmitter suppresses a plurality of sub-carriers of the signal, The resulting truncated signal is transmitted to the receiver through a noisy channel. The receiver receives a noisy signal and recovers the carrier signal and, hence, the partial response signal from the noisy signal. The method includes selecting a cyclic convolver having predefined values, applying the cyclic convolver to a signal to produce a partial response signal, dropping a plurality of sub-carriers of the partial response signal, to generate a modulated carrier signal that is ready for transmission.

  • Patent number: 7173973
Abstract: A multi-level space time signal constellation that is optimized for use with a multi-carrier, multi-path communication scheme includes points on a first level separated from points on a mutually exclusive second level by a minimum distance that is based on a conditional probability distribution, preferably a Kullback-Leibler (KL) distance. Points within one level may be separated by a Euclidean distance, but spherical levels are rotated relative to one another to maximize a minimum inter-level KL distance. A receiver uses pilot symbols to estimate the channels and two-stage symbol detection, determining in one stage the constellation level and in another stage the point in the level. The receiver calculates a likelihood function based on a conditional distribution which does not reduce to the Euclidean-based nearest-neighbor detector. A single stored constellation may be scaled based on received signal to noise ratio.
