  • Patent number: 7139756
Abstract: A system and a method are described for rapidly determining document similarity among a set of documents, such as a set of documents obtained from an information retrieval (IR) system. A ranked list of the most important terms in each document is obtained using a phrase recognizer system. The list is stored in a database and is used to compute document similarity with a simple database query. If the number of terms found to not be contained in both documents is less than some predetermined threshold compared to the total number of terms in the document, these documents are determined to be very similar. It is shown that these techniques may be employed to accurately recognize that documents, that have been revised to contain parts of other documents, are still closely related to the original document. These teachings further provide for the computation of a document signature that can then be used to make a rapid comparison between documents that are likely to be identical.

  • Patent number: 7139542
Abstract: A radio frequency receiver 30, 32, includes a first component block 12, 16, 18, 20; a second compensating component block 22, 22a–22b, 34; and control circuitry 26 operable for controlling the state (e.g., load, bias, gain) of the first component block. When the control circuitry 26 causes a change in the state of the first component block that is expected to induce a DC offset in a signal, the control circuitry 26 changes the state of the second component block to compensate for an estimate of the DC offset. Preferably, the second component block is a filter 22, 22a–22b, 34, that temporarily changes from a nominal cutoff frequency to an elevated cutoff frequency so that voltage will settle quickly and accurately at an estimated voltage, the estimated voltage being predetermined and based on the state change to the first component block. A method is also described for practicing the invention.

  • Patent number: 7133440
Abstract: A method and system for open-loop acquisition of a pseudo-noise (PN) encoded QPSK burst signal is provided. The method includes the steps of determining a PN correlation accumulation (PNCA) threshold and a sync threshold. Searching for a burst signal synchronization by searching a burst preamble for a sync word exceeding the sync threshold. In response to detecting the sync word, performing a PNCA of at least 256 bits following the detected sync word and comparing the PNCA of the at least 256 bits with the PNCA threshold. The comparison further includes the step of verifying that the PNCA of the 256 bits following the detected sync word exceeds the PNCA threshold and then verifying sync word detection. Next, using the burst preamble an estimate of carrier signal frequency is determined; and using a subsequent burst preamble carrier signal frequency and carrier signal phase is determined.

  • Patent number: 7130333
Abstract: A method and device for frame sync detection using signal combining and correlation. The method comprises the steps of despreading PN coded signals to provide in-phase I1–In, and quadrature phase Q1–Qn signals, wherein each I1–In and each Q1–Qn signal contains at least one sync bit and n?2. The at least one sync bit from each I1–In, and quadrature phase Q1–Qn signals are summed to form sums Is1 and Qs1, respectively. The next step provides a reference sync having at least one bit and compares each sum Is1 and Qs1 with the at least one reference bit. The results of each Is1 and Qs1 comparison are accumulated so as to form two accumulates, IA and QA, respectively. Each accumulate IA and QA, is squared to form IA2 and QA2 from which the sum IA2 and QA2 is formed. The sum IA2+QA2 is compared with a predetermined threshold and as a result of the comparison a determination of whether frame sync has been achieved is made.
