  • Patent number: 4872243
Abstract: A method of continuously producing an elongated strip-like fastener member is disclosed which facilitates highly efficient formation of the fastener member with a great multiplicity of resiliently flexible hook-like projections. The method comprises the formation of an extrusion of plastic material which is shaped between a pair of coacting first and second rollers. Notably, one of the rollers defines a plurality of hook-forming cavities about its periphery within which the hook projections of the fastener member are formed. The forming roller is suitably cooled so as to effect substantial reduction in the temperature of the molten plastic extrusion from which the fastener member is formed. In this manner, the fastener member may be removed or stripped from the forming roller without opening of the hook-forming cavities, thus promoting highly efficient formation of the fastener member without resort to unduly complex equipment of processes.

  • Patent number: 4837034
Abstract: A low-calorie, all-malt beer characterized by full body and flavor of a conventional all-malt beer and a method of preparing the same without any external enzymes is described. A wort is prepared by blending warm malt mash with hot water under conditions which avoid exposing the blend of hot water and the malt mash to temperature between about 52.degree. C. and 75.degree. C., and the resultant wort is converted to beer by fermenting the wort with Brewer's yeast. The wort extract is oxygenated with substantially pure oxygen in place of air normally used in the fermentation, and the Brewer's yeast is added to the wort extract at a rate of about 30 to 60 grams pressed yeast per 100 liters wort so as to absorb, within the yeast cells of the Brewer's yeast, substantially all harsh and grainy flavor compounds contained in the wort extract.

  • Patent number: 4809912
Abstract: A method for the fabrication of a continuous action reservoir type air freshening device is described. The device is characterized by the use of an evaporation rate controlling porous membrane which is in intimate contact and completely covers the exposed surface of an erodible gel-type of solid perfume composition. The fragranced gel is enclosed in a container, one end of which is open and over which is affixed the porous membrane. One side of this membrane is exposed to the atmosphere; the other side intimately contacts the solid reservoir consisting of the fragrance gel. Transmission of the volatile fragrance and carrier agents to the surrounding environment through the porous membrane matrix occurs as a function of an evaporative process. The membrane permits only a limited penetration, if any by the gel solution, i.e. in the liquid state, but is sufficiently permeable to the gel solution to establish physical attachment between the solidified gel and the membrane.

  • Patent number: 4808773
Abstract: A cable for use in ultra-low impedance electrical interconnections and a connector for optional use therewith. A two-conductor version of the cable is formed, for example, by the steps of, disposing an elongated first strip of electrical conductor on an elongated first strip of electrical insulator; disposing an elongated second strip of electrical insulator on the first strip of electrical conductor; disposing an elongated second strip of electrical conductor on the second strip of electrical insulator; and, winding the strips in combination from one side to the other to form the cable as a spiral in cross section. The electrical conductors can comprise elongated rectangular sheets of metal foil or, alternatively to provide a cable of increased flexibility, a plurality of wires disposed side-by-side along the length of the associated strip of electrical insulator.

  • Patent number: 4807718
Abstract: Apparatus for the abatement of noise from cooling fans primarily in computer and business equipment. Noise of mechanical origin is reduced by damping the fan casing, by mass-loading the casing (at low frequencies), by isolating the casing from its surrounds, and by absorbing some of the noise as it is radiated from the fan casing. The foregoing functions are accomplished by a three-part assembly comprising an elastomeric damping-absorption-isolation collar, a massive high inertia collar, and a secondary isolator, which are inserted between the fan and its supportive structure. The assembly also supports the fan without loose fasteners attached to the fan.
