Abstract: A method and apparatus for non-invasively measuring changes in intracranial pressure (ICP) in a patient's skull which allow trends in such pressure to diagnosed over time. A method performed, or an apparatus made in accordance with the instant invention comprises a generation of a predetermined vibration signal which is applied to a first location on a skull, detecting an output vibration from another location on the skull, storing data characteristic of the two signals, repeating the above-mentioned steps over time, and analyzing the data to diagnose changes in ICP over time.
Abstract: A Type II superconducting alloy is formed into a wire by extruding a billet of the alloy encased in a copper extrusion can. The extrusion can may include a nose and a tail section having a k factor equal to or greater than that of the body of the core. The nose section may also have a convex inner transverse surface, while the tail section has a concave inner transverse surface. The nose and tail section may be formed of a copper alloy which is of equal or greater stiffness than the alloy of the body of the core. Alternatively, a multifilament wire may be formed by extruding a billet composed of a plurality of separate superconducting wires encased in a copper extrusion can. The nose and tail section of the can may be modified as for the aforementioned monofilament billet.
Abstract: A hook and loop type fastener element is provided with a foam backing which seals against a mold wall surrounding a trough which protects the element fastening surface from contact with the foam. A metal strip is positioned behind the foam and is preferably held by an open-mesh scrim secured to the foam and metal strip by hot melt adhesive strips.
Abstract: A method for establishing a treatment protocol for correcting an abnormal condition or disease in a living organism is described. The method comprises the steps of analyzing body fluids from normal and abnormal individuals to generate analysis patterns of the normal and abnormal fluids, comparing the patterns to determine differences in the patterns, and establishing a treatment protocol for the abnormal individual through chemical or metabolic therapy which treating will normalize the abnormal pattern.
Abstract: The invention concerns an omnidirectional loudspeaker. This loudspeaker comprises a spherical membrane which includes spires formed of a strip (2) made of a magnetostrictive material, the spires being spiral wound according to a sphere; these spires are kept in place by an elastic support (1) so that, along with the support, they form a spherical membrane. The strip has two opposing faces (11, 12), one of which is directed towards the inside (I) of the sphere, the other being directed towards the outside (E) of the sphere, and two extremities (3, 4) situated in two diametrically opposing zones of the sphere so as to be connected to an electric control device (5) providing a signal corresponding to sound waves to be reproduced, and a device (7) for the continuous polarization of the membrane. According to the invention, one of the faces (11) of the strip (2) is at least partly coated with a thin coating (13) made of a rigid material.
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a molded foamed automobile cushion having a deep groove and an upholstery cover secured thereto by a touch fastener having cooperating hook and loop elements carried by the cushion and cover. One element of the touch fastener is molded into a deep groove in the cushion and the other element is secured to the upholstery. The hook elements on both sides of the groove are unidirectional, when assembled, and have their concave surfaces facing in the same direction to permit easy entry of the upholstery into the groove and providing maximum resistance to removal of the upholstery from the groove.

Abstract: In order to measure the electromagnetic characteristics of a moving filiform material without cutting the latter and without any risk of a liquid and/or solid pollution introduced by the material disturbing the measurements, an ultra-high frequency cavity (10) is proposed, whose wall (12) is traversed by two facing orifices, in which are placed the two open parts of a dismantlable tubular protective device (26). The slot (24) makes it possible to introduce the filiform material (F) in to the cavity. The device (26) isolates the filiform material from the latter and its production in two parts enables it to be put into place without cutting the material. The protective device (26) is replaced without stopping the measurements and without any pollution being able to enter the cavity.

Abstract: The bottle according to the invention comprises a double wall (34, 36) defining a coaxial volume (38) corresponding to the "bubble" to be left after filling. In normal operation, the liquid is ejected from said volume and occupies the remainder of the bottle.
Abstract: In a process for manufacturing a rigid-flex printed circuit wherein a rigid insulating layer supports one portion of the printed circuit and a flexible insulator supports another portion thereof to furnish flexible leads for connection the printed circuit to an operative device, a first assembly is provided comprising a curable prepreg insulator layer having an opening for the flexible leads. A flexible sheet spans the opening, and the assembly is pressed with one surface in contact with a smooth hard surface while the other surface is supported by a flowable curable prepreg layer. The insulator and flowable layers are a release layer which prevents bonding between the prepreg layers throughout most of the areas while permitting bonding along the edges. The assembly is maintained under heat and pressure to partially cure both prepreg layers and bond the flexible sheet to the edges of the opening and bond the edges of the prepregs together to form a flat rigid sandwich.

Abstract: A system for the reference marking of the position of a machine tool relative to the machine. Use is made of a camera, which compares two perpendicular images of a standard having a known position with corresponding images, whcih are then displayed, of the tool. No dismantling of the tool or the tool holder turret is required. A particular application is to turning and numerically controlled machines.

Abstract: An improved method of and apparatus rendering water-based fluid waste stream evaporation operations environmentally and otherwise safe, involving separately and independently existing the hot gas stream produced by fuel combustion and the vaporized fluid-air exhaust stream resulting from heat-vaporizing of the fluid, independently directing the streams in opposite directions toward one another and to a common region, and applying fan suction immediately at said region to exert the sole control of withdrawing the streams simultaneously.
Abstract: A hand-held optimal injection high pressure syringe device, typically used for injecting viscous dye into a catheter or manifold. A pistol grip shape permits application of the full compressive force of the closing of the human hand. The syringe assembly is constructed of two major clear plastic sections plus a sealing tip attached to the injector end of the piston. The assembled syringe can be sterilized using standard procedures and disposed of following use. The simple design geometry permits use of efficient and low cost plastic injection molding techniques for manufacture.
Abstract: A pulse-type electric supply system for a load, equipped with means for diverting the electric power liable to be reflected by the load. The system includes an electric pulse generator (8) for supplying pulses to the load (12), a direct current electric supply (2,6) for the generator and a diverter (10) for diverting the electric power liable to be reflected by the load after the latter has received an electric pulse from the generator , so that the reflected electric power takes a different path from that followed by the pulse and which does not return directly to the generator. The system has particular application for use with metal vapour lasers.
Abstract: The invention provides an apparatus for automatically cleaning and dispensing golf balls. The apparatus has a supply chute which connects to a cleaning apparatus and to a gravity operated sorting apparatus which incorporates a dispensing apparatus which feeds a predetermined number of golf balls to an outlet. According to the invention, the sorting apparatus comprises a downwardly sloping barred-grating onto which the golf balls fall from a supply-chute and over which they roll in rows to the dispensing apparatus. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the dispensing apparatus has a row of apart-lying cams which can move upward to their operating positions between the rods of the ball-grating to lift a predetermined number of balls from rows of balls lying on the rods and allow them to fall into the outlet while in their rest positions and cams remain free of the balls lying on the ball-grating.
Abstract: A device and method for the determination of the dielectric characteristics of a material sample. The device includes a probe (3) connected to a coaxial line (2) by a connector (30). The probe comprises a conductive tubular member (78) having a conductive rod (8) coaxial to the tubular member and centered on the latter. An annular member is made of a dielectric material is housed in the tubular member, and is integral with the rod. The annular member/rod assembly is slidably carried in the tubular part (7). A resistive force urges the probe in contact with the material sample (4) so that good contact is ensured with the material sample.
