Abstract: A relief system for process fluids under pressure. The system includes a normally open isolation valve in fluid communication with a process system under pressure through an upstream conduit. A buckling pin actuator is in fluid communication with the upstream conduit through a sensing line. A spring activated actuator is engaged with the isolation relief valve in order to retain the isolation valve in a closed position. A buckling actuator bypass valve is supplied with non process fluid pressure to an input port and the buckling actuator bypass valve also includes a first output port to the spring activated actuator and a second output port to a vent whereby pressure in the process system above a predetermined level will actuate the buckling pin actuator, moving said buckling actuator bypass valve to said second outlet port to vent and thereby moving the spring activated actuator in order to open the isolation valve.

Abstract: A device for selectively inserting an optical lens filter, such as day optical filter and a night optical filter, into an optical path of a camera in accordance with light intensity and/or a signal from a user or timer. The device for switching an optical lens filter may include an electromechanical solenoid that provides a mechanical force to move a cantilevered filter arm between a first position and a second position according to the polarity of the magnetic field generated by the electromechanical solenoid. The device for switching an optical lens filter may include an electrical switch for determining the position of the cantilevered filter arm during operation.

Abstract: Various methods, apparatuses, and systems are described in which a WAP is coupled to an antenna unit and provides a wireless LAN. In one embodiment, the antenna unit includes at least one remote antenna circuit having one or more ports to receive a control signal and a transmit signal transmitted from the WAP located in a multi-tone transmitter-receiver. Each remote antenna circuit includes a transmit amplifier unit that amplifies the transmit signal, a receive amplifier unit that amplifies a receive signal, and control unit that receives the control signal. The control unit controls an operation of the transmit and the receive amplifier units to extend a range of the wireless WAP with the at least one remote antenna circuit.

Abstract: A fluid loss detection device for dressings at pre-existing port sites, catheter sites, operative sites, ostomy sites, drain sites, line sites such as those utilized in hemodialysis, wound sites, or other areas for which monitoring of fluid or blood loss is medically indicated. The detection device includes a patch having a primary loop circuit and an early warning alarm circuit loop. In one embodiment, closure of the early warning alarm circuit loop activates an alarm. The alarm may be connected directly to the patch and sound locally or may be activated remotely via radio transmission. The alarm may alternatively cause a medical device such as a hemodialysis system to shut down.

Abstract: A method is provided for synchronising visual and audio data for a television system. The television system includes display means for displaying visual data thereon and audio means for allowing audio data to be sounded via said system. The method includes the steps of undertaking one of displaying a visual indicator on said display means or sounding an audio indicator via said audio means and, after a time delay or period of time, undertaking the other of displaying the visual indicator or sounding the audio indicator, the period of time between the display of said visual indicator and the sounding of said audio indicator being adjustable by a user of said television system using synchronisation means.

Abstract: A lifting clamp for a workpiece such as plate material, comprising a bearing part and a clamping arm which is rotatably connected to the bearing part above said bearing part and at one end is provided with a clamping face for the purpose of clamping a part of the workpiece between the bearing part and the clamping face, and at the other end of the clamping arm is provided with a lifting eye, the bearing part comprising at least one magnet.

Abstract: A method and system for handling tar sands and extracting bitumen or oil from the tar sands. The method includes the steps of depositing tar sands in a hopper assembly with a first input auger. An organic solvent mixture is introduced to the tar sands in the hopper assembly and is dissolved by the organic solvent mixture. Sand and rocks from the tar sands is allowed to separate. The sands and liquid in a slurry of fluid are transported from the hopper assembly to a rinse chamber. The slurry of fluid is delivered into the top of the rinse chamber tangentially to cause cyclonic action of the slurry in the rinsing chamber. The cyclonic action and gravity draws the sand downward. Solvent mixed with hydrocarbons are drawn off from the top of the rinse chamber and recirculated in a closed loop process. A portion of the solvent and hydrocarbon liquid mixture is pumped to a separator system in order to separate the oil and bitumen from the solvent.

Abstract: A secure virtual tape management system with early read support options. The system includes at least two mainframe hosts having a catalog storing tape related information. A primary virtual tape emulation system includes an adaptor and includes software for facilitating remote configuration and utilization of the virtual tape management. A virtual tape system catalog storing tape related information is attached to the virtual tape management. Remote data storage devices may be in communication with the virtual tape management central processing unit. Software resident on the catalog monitors tape related information on the primary virtual tape emulation system for criteria matching a virtual tape to be made available to a secondary host and initiates immediate transfer of that data allowing it to be read in a paced manner by the secondary host before the primary host has completed its series of tape writes.

Abstract: A weight system for a landfill tarpaulin. A pair of parallel chains are retained within a pair of sleeves in the tarp. A plurality of parallel wire lines traverse the tarpaulin. A plurality of elongated coupler bodies are provided with each coupler body having a first end terminating in a eyelet and a second, opposed end terminating in a hollow recess. A chain fastener passes through one eyelet, passes through one of the chains, and passes through the tarp. At least one wire line fastener passes through an opening in the coupler body to engage one of the wire lines received in the second, opposed end hollow recess.

Abstract: A grommet shackle having a pair of opposed parallel legs. Each of the legs includes an opening therethrough to receive a pin or bolt. A central bow extends between the pair of legs to form a jaw to receive a rope or cable. The central bow has a cylindrical cross-section including an inner cylindrical load surface toward the eye to receive the rope or cable thereon. An outer cylindrical surface of the central bow forms a hollow recess. A central brace or rib extends across the hollow recess.

Abstract: Pharmaceutical compositions are for administration to the nasal tract. In particular, dry powder compositions are cellulose, and in particular hydroxypropylmethylcellulose (HPMC), and one or more therapeutic agents. It has been shown that administration of HPMC to the nasal cavity is capable of enhancing natural mucus. These powders, and the gel that forms when they are administered to the nasal tract, have now surprisingly been found to be a very effective way of intranasally administering therapeutic agents, and in particular, herbal or homeopathic agents.

Abstract: A method for generating a system and, the system itself, which allows the selective access to and retrieval of data from a number of data resources. The system comprises a host system via which a user can make a request for data, and with reference to the request, the host system selects, using a series of activators held therein, those data resources, referred to as target systems, which are required to be accessed. The interface between the host and target systems and the generation and display of the retrieved data is controlled so as to provide the data to the user in the contextual format.

Abstract: A novel catalytic reactor suitable for use in chemical and petrochemical processes. The reactor is of a pillow panel that has superior heat transfer properties. This invention also relates to a chemical process, such as a Fischer-Tropsch synthesis process performed with use of the novel pillow panel reactor.

Abstract: An aerial camera system including a plurality of main reels, a camera interface/safety reel and a stabilized camera head. The camera head is supported from main cables from the main reels with a safety reel cable providing power, data and video communication between the camera head and a main computer system. Each of the main reels, the camera interface/safety reel and the camera head are in communication with the main computer system, which controls the feeding and reeling in of the main cables. Further, the computer system controls the feeding and reeling in of the safety reel cable, which typically only follows the camera head as it moves in three-dimensional space, but may in emergency mode support the weight of the camera head and be used to slowly pull the camera head up and out of the way so that it does not interfere with any activity below the flight area.

Abstract: A hoist clamp device for clamping an object. The device includes a frame, a first clamping part, movably connected to the frame and provided with a first gripping surface, a second clamping part, coupled to the frame, provided with a second gripping surface, and arranged with respect to the first clamping part so as to clamp the object between the second gripping surface and the first gripping surface, in which the first clamping part is movable with respect to the second clamping part in order to clamp the object by moving the first clamping part from a free position into a clamping position, and in which the second clamping part is furthermore provided with a gripping part, provided with the second gripping surface, which gripping part is designed to allow a displacement with respect to the frame as long as a clamping force of the first clamping part on the second clamping part is below a minimum value.

Abstract: A protective case for a retractable item, such as a magnifier or digital media. The case is a hollow shell bisected from end to end to form two halves. At each end of each half there is a pivotal hinge. The hinges at one end join the halves mutually. The hinges at the other end support two arms separately. The two arms at their ends support the item mutually via a pivotal hinge. The case halves may be affected to remain apart by a spring and to remain joined by a releasable hook. To use the item, the halves are parted, the arms extend the item, and the halves are re-joined. To protect the item, the halves are parted, the arms retract the item, and the halves are re-joined.
