  • Patent number: 4568042
Abstract: Lift for an aircraft is provided by forming a longitudinal lifting duct therethrough, said lifting duct having a substantially planar roof and a longitudinally cambered floor. When the aircraft is driven forwardly, a stream of air enters and passes through the lifting duct and the contouring of the floor of the lifting duct give rise to a pressure gradient in the air stream which result in a higher pressure on the roof of the lifting duct than on the floor thereof so that the pressure difference provides lift for the aircraft.

  • Patent number: 4566484
Abstract: An apparatus for controlling the flow of liquid from a conduit into a tank to maintain a selected level, which is an improvement on the conventional type of float-operated flow valves which use a diaphragm clamped between two flanges and positioned over the end of the conduit through which liquid is supplied at a selected pressure. There is a small opening in the center of the diaphragm and there is a second small opening in the second flange of the flow means. The improvement of this invention, is the use, instead of a float mechanism, a pressure-sensitive diaphragm which is responsive to the hydrostatic pressure in the liquid at the level of immersion of the diaphragm. The diaphragm is adapted to close and open the second small opening, and thus to control the flow through the first valve.

  • Patent number: 4564322
Abstract: A drill scope comprising a calibrated protractor that can be read directly in terms of angle of tilt of the drill bit and a pivoting spirit level support means with tilt angle marker and bull's-eye bubble level that can be pivoted to a selected angle of tilt and then held in that position during use of the drill. In this manner, when the hand held drill is held such that the bubble reads level, the angle of tilt or inclination of the resulting hole can be readily maintained within one degree. The drill scope can be a U-shaped arm with level that swings over the entire drill housing, a circularly curved surface integrally mounted in the drill housing with a sliding element that holds the level or a calibrated protractor disc with radial support arm and level that attaches to the conventional side handle hole of the drill.

  • Patent number: 4553226
Abstract: This invention is concerned with downhole measurements while drilling a borehole in the earth with a drill bit at the lower end of the drill string and transmitting such measurements to the surface. The drilling fluid is forced through a fluid passage which includes a drill string, a bit at the lower end thereof and the annulus surrounding the drill string. There is a restriction in the passage causing a pressure drop creating a high pressure zone and a low pressure zone within said passage, and a drilling fluid bypass comprising a bypass valve provides fluid communication between the high pressure zone and the low pressure zone. By means of a downhole sensor and associated equipment a plurality of pulse or electrical voltage change signals representing downhole information is produced. Each of these signals is arranged to generate several electrical voltage changes.
