  • Patent number: 5764234
Abstract: A trapezoidal partitioning method and apparatus for partitioning a figure of an optical waveguide approximated by a polygon into trapezoids wherein a prescribed linear axis is set, and the figure of the optical waveguide is partitioned by a group of straight lines passing through the vertices and lying perpendicular to the linear axis. Points of intersection at which two adjacent straight lines intersect the outline of the optical waveguide are adopted as vertices of one trapezoid, and vertex data is output as a set for each trapezoid. Further, the figure of the optical waveguide approximated by a polygon is specified by data of a sequence of vertices.

  • Patent number: 5738132
Abstract: A roll over vent valve comprising:a housing having a fluid inlet and a fluid outlet, the latter comprising a substantially elongated slit-like outlet aperture of the housing bounded by a valve seating. There is furthermore provided a float member located in the housing and axially displaceable within the housing between the inlet and the outlet; an elongated flexible closure membrane strip anchored at one end thereof to an end of the float member adjacent the outlet and at a portion thereof offset with respect to the outlet; spring biassing means located within the housing and bearing on the float member so as to spring bias it in the direction of the outlet; whereby the spring biassing together with buoyancy forces acting on the float member tend to press the membrane strip into sealing engagement with the outlet aperture whilst gravity forces acting on the float member tend to displace the float member away from the outlet so as to progressively detach the strip from sealing engagement with the outlet.

  • Patent number: 5724346
Abstract: A mobile user station periodically searches for a connectable access point and stores the address of a connectable access point that has been found in a master-station management table. When the mobile user station moves from one cell to another under these conditions, the state of communication with the old access point deteriorates. When the state of communication with the old access point deteriorates to such a degree that it becomes necessary for the mobile user station to connect to a new access point, the mobile user station sends a connection request to the access point stored in the master-station management table and performs communication via the new access point. As a result, when connection to a new access point becomes necessary owing to movement of the mobile user station between cells, the changeover between access points can be performed quickly without searching for an access point.

  • Patent number: 5703880
Abstract: A data communication method enables communications between terminals adapted to handle frame structure data having different formats. The terminals are connected via an asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) network in which frame structure data is transmitted in a form of an ATM cell. The terminals include at least a first terminal and a second terminal. The first terminal is adapted to handle data having a super frame (SF) format. The second terminal is adapted to handle data having an extended super frame (ESF) format. A type of frame format of frame structure data to be sent to one of the terminals is distinguished by detecting a synchronization pattern of the frame structure data. The frame structure data is converted when the frame structure data is sent to the one of the terminals so that the converted frame structure data has a type of frame format corresponding to the detected synchronization pattern.

  • Patent number: 5687073
Abstract: An IPL requesting processor sends an IPL request to a communication path. The other processors detect the IPL request. When a communication channel is secured between the IPL requesting processor and a management processor that holds IPL management data, the management processor transfers the IPL management data to the IPL requesting processor. The IPL management data include data related to load assignable processors and IPL data. The IPL requesting processor receives statuses from load assignable processors. According to the statuses and the IPL management data, the IPL requesting processor allocates IPL data segments to the load assignable processors and instructs them to provide the allocated IPL data segments. The IPL requesting processor receives the IPL data segments from these processors and stores them, thereby obtaining necessary IPL data.

  • Patent number: 5684708
Abstract: A numerically controlled machining method and a numerically controlled machining system execute numerically controlled machining. An optimum processing tool is selected based on the numerical control orders, and the processing steps are optimized. A numerically controlled machining system is constituted by a numerically controlled processor, controllers and numerically controlled machines. The numerically controlled processor finds production times for machining parts for all the numerical control orders and compares them with a reference value to classify them into a group of special express processes and a group of normal processes. The special express processes pertain to the group of machining methods giving importance to the degree of finish, and the normal processes are divided into a group of machining methods for minimizing the exchange of machining tools or to a group of machining methods of optimizing a drawing number, whichever gives better machining efficiency.
