Abstract: Methods for converting two-dimensional images into three-dimensional images employing various interactive image processing tools that allow a user to apply any number or combination of image pixel repositioning depth contouring effects, algorithms or the like to create three-dimensional images.
Abstract: A probe that facilitates the creation of circumferential lesions in body tissue. The probe includes a probe body and an inflatable helical or loop shaped therapeutic element.
Abstract: Electrophysiological methods and apparatus are disclosed. An exemplary myocardial treatment method includes the steps of positioning an electrode on the epicardial surface of a ventricle and transmitting energy from the electrode, through the epicardial surface and into the ventricular wall to create a lesion within the ventricular wall. An exemplary apparatus includes a shaft and one or more electrodes that have a main portion and a needle portion.
Abstract: A catheter assembly having a sheath, which includes a side wall enclosing an interior bore, and a distal region. The assembly also has a bendable catheter tube, which is carried for sliding movement in the interior bore. A pull wire also runs through the interior bore of the sheath, preferably within a lumen. The catheter tube has a distal portion with a coupling which joins the distal portion of the catheter tube and the distal portion of the pull wire. Relative movement of the pull wire and the sheath causes bending of the catheter tube outwardly through the opening, in response to sliding movement of the catheter tube within the interior bore toward the distal region of the sheath.
Abstract: A surgical method and apparatus for positioning a diagnostic or therapeutic element within the body. The apparatus may be catheter-based or a probe including a relatively short shaft.

Abstract: Systems and methods employ a guide element that carries a region of energy emitting material. The systems and methods electronically couple the region to a source of energy that, when emitted by the region, ablates tissue. The systems and methods are responsive to user commands for changing the physical characteristics of the lesions being created by electronically altering the energy emitting characteristics of the region itself.

Abstract: A catheter assembly comprises a first branch body having a first axis, a second branch body extending in a non-parallel relationship with respect to the first axis, and at least one electrode carried by the second branch body. In use, the first branch body can be located within a pulmonary vein within the left atrium, while the electrode carried by the second branch body is located in contact with endocardial tissue outside the pulmonary vein. Ablation energy can be transmitted from the electrode to contacted endocardial tissue while the first branch body is located within the pulmonary vein.

Abstract: A movable machine, for example a saw, has a light construction using composite materials such as fiber reinforced resins and a closed cell foam. The saw may have a housing formed from multiple skins of the composite materials in which is located the closed cell foam. Metallic inserts may be used to bond to either or both of the foam and the composite skin to accept working components. A saw is also described which uses gears sharing the same support element.

Abstract: A transmitter or a method for transmitting data from a first antenna imposes a low level phase modulation, for example of less than 90°, on a carrier signal in accordance with a data signal to create a modulated signal, preferably having a carrier frequency and sidebands, and the sidebands may be substantially lower in amplitude than the carrier frequency. The method may be used in an identification system, for example for identifying luggage or other items. In another aspect of an apparatus or method for transmitting data, a phase modulation may be imposed on a carrier signal in accordance with a data signal to create a modulated signal having a carrier and sidebands, where the amount of phase modulation being selected is such that the amplitude of the sidebands is substantially lower than that of the carrier. Phase modulation may be imposed by a mixer.
Abstract: A method for antenna tracking includes providing a central feed element in an antenna focal region with additional feed elements in an azimuth coordinate to provide a multitude of feed elements that each have a static beam position, and varying ratios of amplitudes of adjacent feed elements of the multitude of feed elements to electronically steer a beam between the static beam positions.

Abstract: A power takeoff assembly, a drive assembly, a saw and a kit for a saw include a drive plate and drive shaft, for example for mounting to a fly wheel, and a bell housing for mounting to an engine block and for supporting a sheave. The sheave rotates on bearings supported by a housing tube on the bell housing, and a coupler couples the drive shaft, which extends into the tube, to the sheave. Side loading and cyclical loading on the drive shaft are reduced, dimensions of the saw can be reduced and operation of the saw can be more reliable.

Abstract: A composite material is provided that includes a matrix material, and a plurality of deflectable elements or “machines” disposed in the matrix material, the machines acting to modify one or more physical properties of the composite material in response to forces acting upon the composite material. Preferably, the machines have an elongate shape defining a longitudinal axis, which are disposed within the matrix material in a predetermined array. The elongate members have an asymmetrical cross-section which is deflectable between first and second shapes, and consequently the composite material exhibits different physical properties because the elongate members deflect between the first and second shapes. The machines may include a variety of asymmetrical cross-sections, such as a generally “Z” shape, an hourglass shape, a cantilever shape or a leaf spring shape.
Abstract: Surgical methods and apparatus for positioning diagnostic an therapeutic elements on the epicardium or other organ surface. The apparatus includes a tissue cooling apparatus.
