  • Patent number: 4280775
Abstract: A system for controllably positioning printed circuit boards or the like for the automatic drilling of holes therein. A plurality of individual work positions is provided, together with corresponding work carrier plates having individual or groups of circuit boards affixed thereto. Each work position includes a work table, a drilling machine with associated control equipment, a carrier plate for the circuit boards, and means for supporting the carrier plate and circuit boards above the work table with minimal resistance to lateral movement of the carrier plate and boards. The carrier plates are tied to a central drive system controlled by an automatic control unit in a manner which rigidly maintains close tolerances to lateral movement while permitting vertical displacement relative to the work tables. A master table is included for the drilling of a master template and to prevent displacement errors in the holes to be drilled.

  • Patent number: 4278511
Abstract: Method for producing fine line circuit boards utilizing both sides thereof, with through-hole plating wherein the board is drilled and conductive metal clad, the surface is passivated and the holes and the surfaces are electroplated to a desired thickness. Thereafter the surface electroplate is peeled off the board, leaving the plating in the holes. Subsequently the board is masked in a desired pattern, etched to remove the cladding and form a circuit, and then the mask is removed and solder is applied to the plated holes.

  • Patent number: 4276889
Abstract: A device for collecting a urine specimen, which is particularly adapted for females, is configured and adapted for use while the user is sitting on a toilet in the normal position for voiding. The device comprises a collector and a specimen container, preferably integrally assembled together. In use the device selectively collects the clean, contaminant-free mid-stream portion of urine in the container. The urine specimen container is releasably secured to the collector at a bleed-off conduit extending from a collection exit in a urine receiving chamber of the collector. This exit is positioned in the chamber above a urine bleed-off exit in the conduit adapted for receiving and discarding the first-voided portion of urine at a controlled rate. Means are provided for directing into the toilet all of the voided urine in excess of that which is retained in the specimen container, including the discarded first-voided portion.

  • Patent number: 4274610
Abstract: A missile jet tab actuator system for a thrust vector control coupled to aerodynamic controlled surfaces is disclosed. The device removes roll information present in commands to the aerodynamic surfaces. Only pitch and yaw information is thus supplied to the thrust vector control jet tabs. In this disclosure, the roll information is removed by a gear and slotted sleeve system. The resulting pitch and yaw output is used to drive the thrust vector control jet tabs. No separate set of independently powered actuators for such tabs is required.

  • Patent number: 4272040
Abstract: A rocket thrust vector control system including jet tabs and aerodynamic control surfaces is disclosed. The control system removes roll information present in commands to the aerodynamic surfaces and provides only pitch and yaw information to the jet tabs for the thrust vector control. The roll information is removed by a geared summing mechanism. The resulting pitch and yaw output is used to drive the thrust vector control jet tabs. The same powered actuators are used for both the aerodynamic control surfaces and the jet tabs.

  • Patent number: 4268328
Abstract: A method for fabricating MOS and MNOS transistors on a common substrate which strips the silicon nitride required for MNOS operation away from areas where it is not required. The removal of the nitride from the MOS gate eliminates cumulative threshold instability and allows separate optimization of both MOS and MNOS structures in a single process. Removal of nitride from other areas such as the contact regions prevents undercut structures of nitride dielectric from being formed during contact hole fabrication and thus minimizes reliability problems and yield limitations. Further an improved MNOS structure is produced which has strips of nitride in the gate region spaced apart from the diffused regions, thereby minimizing diode breakdown and long term threshold instability.

  • Patent number: 4263964
Abstract: Arrangements for supporting a heat exchanger core within a steel frame structure by a hanger system utilizing flexible members pivotably coupled to overhead support beams. Balancing beams are employed to equalize the load transmitted through the system to the support beams. These support systems permit the heat exchanger core to expand in all directions from thermal growth without restraint relative to the frame structure, thereby minimizing thermal fatigue.

  • Patent number: 4261481
Abstract: A molded, disposable fluid container is disclosed for containing one, or preferably two, fluids ready for shipping. For a single fluid, the container may be tube-shaped having one or two open ends of smaller diameter. They may be closed by disposable, molded caps which may be screwed over external screw threads, or snapped on and off from molded, external ridges. One of the caps may be of large diameter to correspond to the diameter of the tube, and may in turn, have a small diameter open cylinder which may be closed by a disposable, molded cap. Preferably, dual container kits are used for shipping two fluids. Both containers have a matching, small open end providing with matching ridges or screw threads. This permits metering of the two fluids in a desired ratio through blow-down by appropriate fluid pressures.

  • Patent number: 4254406
Abstract: An integrating analog-to-digital converter particularly adapted to measure inertial instrument outputs for strap-down navigation. In the converter, an input signal is summed with a number of precisely quantized voltage pulses and is integrated. An error signal at the output of the integrator controls the rebalance duty cycle of the converter. Counting the net rebalance quanta over an interval results in an output count which is proportional to the input signal voltage.

  • Patent number: 4249385
Abstract: A two-phase thermal energy conversion system employs an evaporable liquid such as water, and a gas which is not liquefiable within the operating temperature and pressure ranges, such as air. The water and air are mixed and one of the two or both are heated so that the water evaporates and is absorbed by the air to result in a pressure increase. The increase of pressure or volume can be converted into mechanical energy by a prime mover such as a turbine or reciprocating piston engine. The heat of condensation is utilized and converted into mechanical power while the temperature and pressure are reduced. The liquid, such as water, may be below its boiling point. If the water consists of salt water, fresh water is derived as a condensation product from the prime mover.

  • Patent number: 4242686
Abstract: An electrically conducting, electromagnetic wave reflector comprises a knit wire reflecting surface consisting of two superimposed knitted wire meshes. The wire mesh reflector is impregnated with a transparent thermo-setting resin so that the metallic structure is no more than 3 mils from the outer surface of the reflector. The knitted wire mesh permits the fabric to be smoothly stretched over a three-dimensional surface of predetermined shape. The two wire meshes are staggered with respect to each other to reduce the effective size of the openings between the loops of the mesh. A reinforcing structure preferably consisting of two layers of glass cloth impregnated with a thermo-setting resin is utilized to provide a lightweight reflector substantially impervious to environmental corrosion. The resulting structure may be used as an antenna or reflector and is suitable for the microwave region such as the K band.
